Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
By the "click" I meant that the gear isn't downshifting at once always, and I had to try more than 2 - 3 times to downshift.Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostPardon my ignorance but what is the "click" you are talking about?
Though this does not happens every time I downshift but worries me a lot for what may be the cause?

What oil are you using? Last oil change? Check for the clutch lever play.Originally posted by Abhisek View PostBy the "click" I meant that the gear isn't downshifting at once always, and I had to try more than 2 - 3 times to downshift.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I use motul 5100 15w50 ss oil, & changed it on last Monday (this oil change was second bottle of motul) 2/9/13 after riding for 2438 kms, before that I used Yamalube ss oil of the same grade.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostWhat oil are you using? Clutch free play feels normal, but if you can help me regarding how it is to be adjusted by a DIY, it would be of great help.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I guess either you or the service people at yamaha could have removed the gear lever for some reason and have not installed it properly. Have the lever removed, cleaned, lubricated and re-installed. Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Apart from what other members have mentioned, check for chain slack, wear and also lubrication.. A dirty chain would not provide optimal feedback during gear-shifting..Originally posted by Abhisek View PostBy the "click" I meant that the gear isn't downshifting at once always, and I had to try more than 2 - 3 times to downshift.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
After switching to Motul, is the down shifting still hard?? IMO, while i was on Yamalube, even i had big time issues while shifting gears. But, after switching to Motul, the problem hasn't been there. Ride for some kms and see how things go. If problem still persists, go to SVC and tell them the issue. Some lubing here and there all will be good.Originally posted by Abhisek View PostI use motul 5100 15w50 ss oil, & changed it on last Monday (this oil change was second bottle of motul) 2/9/13 after riding for 2438 kms, before that I used Yamalube ss oil of the same grade.

As I told earlier, the oil change was the second consecutive bottle of Motul, so theres nothing related to yamalube.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostAfter switching to Motul, is the down shifting still hard?? I am just confused regarding the cause of the problem and how to rectify it.

Abhisek... Looks like the clutch play is more. Get it done at the SVC. Also, how many kms on the odo? If you are trying to downshit at relatively lowet speeds, the clicking is bound to happen.

Bro, can you tell me if it can be done at home else I'll definitely go to svc.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostAbhisek... Looks like the clutch play is more. One more thing, went to a local mechanic known for his good work, he instantly told me that the gear spring (don't remember ehat exactly he said) had gone kaput & needs to be replaced. Don't know whether to go with his words or not please advice?
Also he told me to change a link of the chain as a "khat- khat" sound is coming from the chain, but as I enquired regarding the same sometime back in xbhp itself that replacing a link may prove fatal so won't follow what he said on this matter. An xbhpian told me that such chain sound will vanish once lubed properly, which I always follow even before I was said that, but still the sound exists, irritating but living with that as the chain seems still seems good, after 11200kms on the odo.
Any help will be a boon to my ride to get rid of the irritating sound.
Thanks in advance.

If you have all the equipments with you, than you can do it at home. Check the manual for DIY thing. Also, it will be good if you follow the SVC guys.Originally posted by Abhisek View PostBro, can you tell me if it can be done at home else I'll definitely go to svc.

May be a weird and noob question, but does the engine needs to be opened up for clutch play settings or it can be adjusted by the external adjusting nuts that are situated beside the clutch lever and near the engine?
Please also say whether anything can be done to get rid of that khat-khat sound from the chain.

Can be adjusted by making changes to the positions of the adjusting nuts.Originally posted by Abhisek View PostBro,

About khat khat sound, how old is the bike on the current chain sprocket set ? Have you checked for proper chain slack ? or excessive grime or dirt in the chain ?
Cheers

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Adjusting nuts will do the job. The khat khat sound of chain is because of its slackness. Adjust the slackness. With 11k on the odo, looks like you might have to change the chain set.Originally posted by Abhisek View PostBro,

krishnaI regularly clean and lube the chain myself after every 450-550 kms. No question of slackness as it had been checked just a week back by one of my known mechanic who works for HERO SVC.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostAdjusting nuts will do the job. But he said me to change the chain set as I denied when he told me that one of the chain links is to be changed to remove the khat-khat sound, even though the chain is quite fine to look at & is usable for 10000 further more kms.
Will give a try to adjust the clutch play tomorrow & see if it works to solve the gear downshifting problem.
