can ne1 plz tell me what to check before taking the beast home..?
n the salesman told me to do teflon to retain the shine n color..n he's is charging extra for it ? is it necessary..?
thank you .
First of all welcome to xbhp and congrats on picking up an FZ.
You don't have to do teflon coating on the bike. Before taking the delivery, check for dents, cracks, electricals i.e. all lights are working or not, any kind of rust on nuts and bolts or in hinges etc. Hope this helps

" Motul 5100 4T '15w50' ", costs some 450 Rs\ltr. but SS also runs for 2500-3000 KM??
i dont think thats right... shud be 5K kms i guess... also if its 15W40, wont that damage the engine since the recommended grade is 20W40??

no it wont you should not change the last two digits... the first two digits represent how much synthetic the oil is.... 20 means mineral, 15 means semi synth and 10 & 5 means full synthetic.....Originally posted by Aravindh View Postyeah even im using mineral oil for more than 2K kms now.. i hrd it can be used for 2.5K kms max...

bro ... the 1st two digits represent the oil viscosity at cold start ( low temp ) and the digits after the 'W' indicate the viscosity at higher temperatures ... for cold starts lower viscosity is preferred as thinner oil will be able to provide adequate lubrication and easier to crank ...Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postno it wont you should not change the last two digits... the first two digits represent how much synthetic the oil is.... 20 means mineral, 15 means semi synth and 10 & 5 means full synthetic.....Last edited by nand15; 12-31-2010, 07:55 PM.People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

yeah but as soon as the engine starts up the temp rises.... anyways i just concluded that from previous discussions... eve i am still confused as the svc guy teels that r15's ss which is 15w50 wont give any problem to fz but some experts here say otherwise...Originally posted by nand15 View Postbro ... the 1st two digits represent the oil viscosity at cold start ( low temp ) and the digits after the 'W' indicate the viscosity at higher temperatures ... for cold starts lower viscosity is preferred as thinner oil will be able to provide adequate lubrication and easier to crank ...Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

The engine oil grade is still under dispute. Now we got guys who have three different versions of manuals.Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postyeah but as soon as the engine starts up the temp rises.... anyways i just concluded that from previous discussions... eve i am still confused as the svc guy teels that r15's ss which is 15w50 wont give any problem to fz but some experts here say otherwise...
1. Reco'ed engine oil is 20W40 (which is mine and nand and other oldies IIRC).
2. Reco'ed engine oil is 20W50 (which is present in the newer ones)
3. Reco'ed engine oil is 20W40/50 (I think there is only one guy with this here).

Hi guys , Firstly , here's wishing all of you a very happy new year ...
Now onto my story (somewhat lengthy so bear with me )
,
Was coming back from a ride to skandagiri , and on the inner ring road , all of a sudden my electricals just shut down ... completely , no speedo , lights , horn ... nothing ... and after a few metres , lost drive and rolled to a standstill ... tried the starter like an idiot
, completely in vain and then even tried to push start ... NO GO , The bike had had enough ...
luckily for me whenever I had a problem with it , i'm not too far from help ... There was a mech just a few hundred metres from where I was ... he checked and said Battery must be dead ... even he tried whatever I already tried ... then he hotwired it , still no go ... he plonked in a new battery and it just kicked to life !!! checked the voltage 14.8V . he left it running , swapped batteries and checked , mine read about 10.42V at first and then to 12.56V and then stayed constant ... took it for a short run ... and it was working fine
Then he checked the relays and said that the problem was with it ... He said something about it being directly connected and it sensed a problem so it shut itself down ... didn't understand it because
1) I hadn't slept previously due to the trek and was completely exhausted
2) Was happy it was working again ...
Now , to the SOLUTION ...
He said if it happens again , just knock the relay box a couple of times and it should work
Charge for the repair : 20 bucks ...
Going back home , without having to push or hitch a ride : Priceless
Now the interesting part ...
This is NOT the 1st time this is happening . It had happened once before and yamaha guys had said water has entered the circuitry and shorted it ...
I was charged 585rs ... 500 bucks for transportation for a mere 2.5km and 85 bucks for the repair ...
And it was the EXACT same problem !!!
CONCLUSION
SVC: overpriced , exorbitant always looking to take you for a ride ...
Knowledgeable mech : best option !People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com
