The RTO takes quite a lot of time to do the processing of the bike registration card. Believe me the dealer will not make money on delaying your card. Unfortunately this is how the indian stretchable time format is being followed all across govt. Body organisations.

In the mean time if you are getting stopped for routine check nakas, carry you insurance, license, the taxation papers and tell the cop that the bike is new and the registration has not come in. I am sure to prove that you are the owner, there is an alternate paper provided by the showroom. Show that and it will suffice.

      Hope this clears your query.

      Cheers
Thanks bro for the reply. I carry all my original documents with me wherever i go.

How much time did it take for your card to come? And as the Yamaha guy had told me that the papers are valid for two months only, is this true???

Well, you know the mumbai police, for no reason they will try to shell out money

      • just had the last free service and cost was Rs.420.
wasnt so satisfied with the servicing and having second thoughts about doing paid services!!

one thing i have noticed is that, the black panel on tank has started fading off unlike the red on the panel which looks shiny and new as ever!!

the new FZ series doesnt impress me,be it the new grab rails or the mudflaps!!
but what makes me intrigued is the seat!!the rear seat has become wider and wanted to know if it can be put on the older versions!!
Our bikes can go from 0 - Stupid in less than "I wonder if this will be a good idea"

        • the new look fzs!

has anyone noticed that the metallic steel color is all gone...
The handle bar is black, the suspension is black, the midship is now completely black..
So much black - good for black lovers, but just two colors on the bike now - white and black (with some sprinkles of blue)
I wont guess the rear shock absorber color as that was still yellow or red! But if you insist 'its black/white?' :-)

@ariendj - the seat looks same size to my fazer's.

Just noticed, even the golden disc brake is now black.. Guys is this some limited edition version or yamaha just discovered surplus stock of black in their inventory?

To me, the seat on the new model looks wider in the rear section as compared to the old models. The grab rails look good too.

Btw, did all FZs had non-black handle-bar? 'coz my Fazer came with a black handle-bar.

It'd be interesting to know if the new grab rails and the seat can be fitted to the older models.

            • I also have the new White Fazer, bought in January..the silver forks, golden Brembo disc caliper, black handlebar, silver grab rails...all look best. The new grab rails look as if Yamaha has copied then from Apache..why spoil the looks of the best looking bike in this segment? What a mess! I hope this all-black treatment is for a limited edition model only, and not for the whole FZ series.
By the way, anybody using the FZ LED tail-lamp? What is the cost and where can I get it in Kolkata?
              Thinking of installing projectors...good idea?

the genuine FZ LED tail lamp costs more than a 1000rs.... and you should be able to order it from the SVC.

Installing projectors is a good idea as long as it is done by someone who knows how to do it properly....

                • Help on FZ-16 Rear Tyre!

Guys, need some suggestion on an issue I've been facing lately. I bought my Midnight Special in Oct '10. The bike has been awesome for an year and I had my first puncture in November 2011, following which I had multiple punctures. Although I've fixed with a local mechanic, the tyre pressure keeps dropping down every day. I set my rear tyre pressure at 33 and by evening its at 5, and I have been facing this problem since December last year.

I took it to Yamaha service centre and they advised me to get in touch with MRF guys who can do a replacement and provide discount on new tyre based on condition of my existing tyre. What they also insisted is that, MRF would not accept the condition of my existing tyre as it has cracks in the edges allover due to riding the bike in low pressure for longer time.

Another mechanic suggested I try wheel alignment as its quite possible that air is leaking form the edges due to bad alignment of the wheel, but he isn't completely sure. His last suggestion was to change the rear tyre as well.

My question and confusion now is, is there anything else I should be doing to fix this issue? Is it normal that tubeless tyre life is hardly a year and half? Is there anyway I can get reasonably good price for the rear tyre as the current selling price from MRF is Rs.3,800? If I should definitely go for new replacement tyre, I don't mind going for better performance & durable one.

Kindly suggest me what I should do. Thanks in advance!

                  Cheers

rear tire lasts around 20k.. I dont know wht mileage yours has done..
Push for a replacement is all i can say bro.
There are hard material tires also available you can check the complete thread for it, or wait for someone using it to reply to your question.
The tread on your tire would be intact it seems.. Please also consult a good tire dealer in your area about fixing a tube in the tire.. It may solve your problem for sometime.
Guys please dont come with a stick after me for the last suggestion.. It just came to my mind as my younger brother has installed a tube in his volks polo's tubeless tyre and it costed him 440 rs.. When he went to the shop, an i10 owner was getting his complete set filled with tubes, i dont know the reason.
Please take sound advice before going ahead and also inform me whether this can be extrapolated to bike tires!!
I dont want any posts of just 3800.. 20k kms.. 5rs per km.. Safety.. Poor country.. Greed etc on this, please. Afterall, go buy a new one its just 3800 is the easiest thing to say.. Before buying check some other dealers the price with mumbai dealers ranges from 3100 to 4000.. Read a post sometime back on this.
Kinshuk got it for 2800 some three four months back ( in hyderabad i think).. now thats a news you would like :-)

                    • Thanks for the suggestion mate, I stumbled on few posts which has discussion on tyre recommendation:

Any other posts or threads which exclusively discusses about this would be great. Pirelli and Michelin tyres are better than the stock and provide better riding experience? I suppose so!

                      Cheers

Yes. I had read through this whole thread quite a while ago, but was disappointed to see that people consider mileage (again!!!) as one of the major considerations....for something their life depend upon!

Th MRF tyres used on our FZs are low grade, sort of (excuse me) "third world" production, cheap, effectively quite correct, but not fantastic at all!

Before praising this tyre, you must have ridden other sport bikes with top notch tyres. It's a whole different world...but not a cheap one! High quality, road and race experts tyre manufacturers like Pirelli, Metzeler, Dunlop or Michelin produce multi-compound tyres that are really soft on the sides and give an awsome grip, but whose central part is medium so that it does not wear too much where it is used the most. A race tyre would be one compound only, chosen depending on the weather condition....but we are only discussing road tyre here. You would not be allowed to go on the road with "slicks", anyway!

Besides many many reports of bad aging of the MRF (cracks), one main reproach seems to be the loss of pressure. If this is due to the tyre itself, I am lucky so far as mine hold their pressure well. Then, when I read about someone whose tyre cannot maintain the pressure after having been repaired, I cannot refrain from thinking that it may not be the tyre the culprit, but the mechanic! Effectively, one has to know that tubeless tyres CANNOT be removed using the classic levers most people use on ordinary tyres, but on a specially designed machine that rotates the wheel, and does not damage the tyre either the rim. If this is not what your mechanic did use: do not look any further!

Still, and besides this bad aging that many report - including here in Vietnam - it is not such a good tyre. I would reproach it to be very low profile and not shock absorbing very well (70 would be better, definitely, but with top notch, stiff sides tyres), but moreover it is not progressive enough. I have lost grip very suddenly on a couple of high speed corners, very nearly missing falling, and also a few times when braking although hardly touching the rear brake. The loss of grip (rear) was very sudden, and would not allow any skidding but sudden slippage, happily with some space outside of the bend and allowing me to righten up the bike and brake before getting back into the bend (...well on the outside then!). A good tyre would have skid gradually, and I would have been able to control it and take even more angle (maybe!).

So, definitely, if I do, knowing their limit, still use these tyres, next ones, and well before they get worn out, will not be MRF, but quite probably Pirelli Diablo Rosso II
