Yeah tat was my biggest fear...tat's why opted for the ABS version...i had been noticing quite a few of these CBR's have a average wet grip...seen the rear tire slip off quite a bit...Originally posted by saveus222 View PostFor starters, you did the right thing by getting an ABS version- going froma blaze to twin disc bikes is a little scary i would think.
Get used to the gears - take it easy till you get the hang of how these bikes turn - they won't have the same - whip it around kind of feel like the non geared bikes but ull get used to it...
Dont mess up the gears - learn how to clutch properly - id say practice on some other bike - the main mistake u can make is to down shift all the way from 6 to 1 and release the clutch
Thanks for the advice....will make sure i'm careful with the clutch...i was planning on getting my friends bike to practice as i was assuming i'll get the bike by mid or end september...but the dealer caught me by surprise
Yeah i'll make sure i stay within the ranges specially during the run-in period...Originally posted by dheeru_leo View Posthey congrats for ur cbr. that initially u will be having the trouble of Handling the bike. so dont take into the traffic u ride on the highway and just understand the bike and dont exceed more than 6000 rpm initially
the cbr has the smooth clutch that u will not have any problem ,just practice on other gear bike first otherwise u will not enjoy ur bike, if anything happens to the gear box or the clutch it will be a big trouble to u and u will face so many probs in future.
yup will practice a little on other bikes...tat's y i plan to take a long trip on the highway before i take it into the traffic...
Thanks for your advice ...

Finally... First servicing done
Just got my first servicing done @850km at Wings Honda in Pune.. Total amount turned out to be Rs. 1344
The issues I had faced pre-servicing which I told the technician
1) Hard gears
2) Stiff steering
3) Throttle too tight
4) Bike didn't rev too easily
All problems were solved by changing oil, oil filter, adjusting clutch and chain play, and loosening the steering a bit. Now the bike runs like a dream. Already, I achieved a top speed of 150 km/h.
I just have one query.
As the attached pic shows, the engine oil used has '100% synthetic' written over it. I have heard that synthetic should be used after 3k to 5k kms. The technician insisted that this is what Honda instructs them to use. Is this correct or will using synthetic oil too early have any disadvantages?

I am planning a 6-day bike trip to Konkan from next weekend and will be taking my CBR with me. I have already done over 850 kms and first servicing is completed (oil filter changed).
I want to know what things I need to take care of with regards to the bike. Since it is going to be raining throughout, how frequently should I lube the chain? Since my earlier bike was a Pulsar 150, I have no idea about this.
Any other things to take care of?

I just got my Black STD Ceeber 4 days back. Haven't been able to complete even 100 kms yet since I'm in the middle of a critical project so all my time is eaten up by work
. Anyways, my concern is, I'm a little new to a 'little bigger' bikes likes these (last ride P150), so I'm unable to find the right rpms at which I can downshift the gears, considering the bike is in its running-in period. Need some expert advice from my fellow bikers here

Guys had been to Suryabala Honda, Coimbatore for first servicing of my CBR. All was good till they started working on the bike. First hit the radiator....after wash when they got the bike out about 20% fins were bend, just cursed myself why was I not there when the moron washed the bike. They were not even ready to acknowledge that the fins got damaged due to pressure wash. Finally after lot of haggling they accepted and a guy spent about an hour straghtening the fins :-)
Oil filter changed (Made in Malaysia), oil changed to Honda Throttle (fully synthetic 10W30), brake pads cleaned, chain cleaned and lubed (Motul).
Over all bike feels fresh and revs slightly better, though I would rate it marginal.
Just a word of caution any one going for servicing oversee the washing part, otherwise the one or two CBR trained mechanic per dealer are ok knowledgewise.
Total cost Rs. 1466/-, seems slightly expensive but its 1K for oil, 125 for chain cleaning and lube, 260 oil filter test misc. Some oil is left which they returned me.
Once again BE CAREFUL AS HOW THEY WASH,
Be sure NO PRESSURE WASH.Last edited by techfreak; 08-20-2011, 06:42 PM.Once a Biker ....Always a BIKER

Congrats in advance buddy.
Extended warranty is worth it, take it...lot of peace of mind as far as CBR goes being a new bike. Regarding teflon coating, its worth it if u are going to park it in open. I have not done it as my bike its always in covered parking. So take your call.
Congrats again, its a bike worth the money u r paying.Once a Biker ....Always a BIKER

Some problem with both my tyres
! Checked it myself removing the rear wheel without any paddock stand with the help of my friends, it was really difficult to work without any stand
, and the mechanic also was unsuccesful finding any punctures but both the tyres are losing 3 to 4 psi overnight
. Mechanic said the sealing between alloy and tyre might have leak, removing and refitting would fix. Guys anyone ever faced such issue with the tubeless?

The same oil was used for mine, gave it for first servicing yesterday. Cost me Rs.1046/- all inclusive.Originally posted by sunkenpirate View PostJust got my first servicing done @850km at Wings Honda in Pune.. Total amount turned out to be Rs. 1344

The oil used is the same, its Rs504 per ltr. The service center does not have or know of any other oil being used for this bike, says its adviced by HMSI to use this oil only.
Even I had a problem with tight steering, however resolved by loosening it(no rusting problem). Had minor issue with the tight key hole, i fixed it using WD40.
The clutch feels harder after 1st service however gearshift is uttery buttery smooth
Can compare it with my old bike, Unicorn now.

Extended warranty is upto you, I don't think its required but if you want peace of mind.Originally posted by ragooms View PostHi guys i,m taking delivery of my cbr250 on monday the dealer drudesh honda is quoting Rs850/- for teflon coating, and Rs220 for number plates, i want to order for IND number plate how much does it cost and should i avoid the teflon coating or get it done also they are asking to take the additional warranty for Rs 1000/- is it needed.

Teflon coating is a total waste! Its nothing but a good quality 3M polish, it might last if you wash it with very mild solutions, however with detergent, it goes off in a single wash.
Had experienced it with a couple of friends owning 220 and an R15, its a total waste of money. Instead get a good wax polish(Turtle Wax recommended)and apply it after every wash.
Works out better and far cheaper.

I'm planning on getting some security for my CBR....i'm a little confused between disc lock and security system....should i go for the xena disc lock or the xenos fw35 security system? which is more safer..?
i don't have a very good parking facility at my current place...so need it badly !
Also i heard about these grip locks....anyone has any idea if they available in india ?

psr,Originally posted by psr View PostJi I think the problem here is that the owner had paid 1.6 L for a 250cc...it is twice the price of Pulsar 220...CBR does 145 top end,so does Pulsar P220.CBR has the latest tech, but is it any faster or more Reliable than a new P220 ?may be in two years the difference will be known..but for 1.6 L the build is same as P220, mileage is same, speed is same, but spares are not available, and there are quality issues.......One could have easily settled with a P220 with good service backup and all spares available, AT HALF THE COST....So what do you get EXTRA for 1.6 L that P220 cannot give ?
This I think is what is Irritating owners...I could be wrong...Just my thought.
I think you have hit the nail right on the head. I am a CBR owner who is having serious, serious doubts about the wisdom of my choice. I had to get a new bike due to my relocation to another station and having had implicit trust in Honda, thought that I would go for the CBR and do long tours esp to meet my wife and kids in Pune.
But the bike, IMO, is nothing but a status symbol. The riding posture is awkward on long routes, the circuit-oriented tyres preempt any riding in rain; in fact, they are ATROCIOUS on wet roads, spares are not easily available and the price, as you rightly put it, is twice that of the P220. I am now planning to sell the bike before it puts on too many miles or gets scratched by the horrific traffic here in Rajkot. Any aspiring owners settled in Pune (the bike has a Pune number) pls PM me and we can negotiate the deal.
I regret not getting the P220 now. It would have complemented my P150 Classic very nicely, would have been comfy in town as well as highway riding and to top it all, I could have gone to Leh too. Bad decision this, getting the CBR...
