Don't, don't, don't do that mistake!!! With the approaching summer heat, you SHOULD switch to FS; let me know if your dealer doesn't stock one, I can get 2 litres shipped from Chennai for you.Originally posted by dreamseller View PostI've been getting 30 for the last 3 tankfulls after my last oil change. Ohh, and RG, I'm still on mineral.
BTW, on long term solution, switch your ASC; look for older dealers, like the ones who started in your city first as well as who sell more; they're likely to have more stock & abundant spares than the newer guys.
Like Dhrupadesh in Bangalore, Didar & JSP in Chennai.
Regarding FE, would like to clarify a point here, no matter you ride in city or highway what matters more are...
- Ride between 80-85 ONLY
- How fast you get to 80 also matters, so be gentle on throttle, ride as if you're doing a run-in. That's more than sufficient to smoke most 150cc motorcycles too
- On a bumper to bumper traffic...sorry can't do much, try switching OFF the vehicle if you know you'll have to wait for more than 15 seconds
- Shift gears according to the speed you ride, which is very important so that you don't lug the engine (remember, you can even redline, but never lug)Last edited by aargee; 05-03-2012, 02:52 PM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

I keep lurking around argee, but dont post too much.
I used to call my 250r 'baby blade'...but now since 150r is also here..i think thats being called as 'baby blade' ..
.. i dont want to share the name..LOL!

No these people have the FS. I was just a bit skeptical on the xxW30 being used.Originally posted by aargee View PostDon't, don't, don't do that mistake!!! Coupled with the fact that PSR Ji said to go for mineral at this juncture, so that the seals can bed-in. Another 1500kms and my next change is an FS.
Very valid points, totally agree. Specially the 2nd and 4th points.Originally posted by aargee View PostRegarding FE, would like to clarify a point here, no matter you ride in city or highway what matters more are...

Upto you DS, but for sure, Summer makes hell a lot of difference; my sincere suggestion (and HMSI's too) is to switch FS from day one...before its too late.Originally posted by dreamseller View PostNo these people have the FS...Another 1500kms and my next change is an FS

I ran semi-synth while the seals were bedding in since the FS oil particles are relatively smaller, followed by SS and finally Mineral. If seals are either glazed or have minor imperfections could be undesirable over long term - but mine wasn't a Honda. For the CBR, Needless to say, with exceptional sealing quality and you shouldn't have issues with FS leaking in unless proper run-in is followed.Originally posted by dreamseller View Post...so that the seals can bed-in. ^^^ Brat, its not only about the particles or seal, one of the major point is that the ability of the 10W30 FS to withstand the capacity of engine heat is far far superior to the mineral or even the SS engine oil. If it were Winter or Monsoon, may be its OK, but in Summer, I'm very apprehensive.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Got my bike after changing the CCT and yeah it makes a hell lot of difference. First thing you will note is the change in the sound during idling, lot more silent it became.
Second thing the issue pulling from 7K rpm has been solved. Throttle response is so smooth now as that of new bike

I ride my R15 all the times in 6th gear .. well i have this habit of changing to top gear very quickly say within 100 mtrs .. and most of the times i manage with it .. unless i need some very quick pick away.
with the CBR i guess that pulling power will be more and running in top gear will be much easier than R15. i guess it will save more fuel and give more mileage [could be wrong

Nagoo - Its not the pull again, its about how hard you make for the engine to pull. Will give you a classic example to try in CBR (pls don't ask me in R15, I don't have one
)
6th gear speed 65 Kmph versus 6th gear speed 75 Kmph. Just 10 Kmph difference, but notice the engine sound when it pulls. From 65, you tend to hear "thud thud" sound, while, you experience a little smoother pull at 75. Now compare that with 6th gear speed 83 Kmph, you'll see its much smoother.
At 65, the engine is lugging & may be the FE is better, but at 75 (I'd prefer 80), the engine isn't lugging, yet the FE might drop very slightly. Able to get the point?
Binoy - Two thumbs up

I never put 6th gear in city coz i feel there's no enough torque to pull the bike in top gear unless you shift 70kmph+ from 5th gear. the bike starts to lug and if you don't downshift may be it will stall. No wonder its like that coz most vehicles 6th gear is the overdrive gear just for cruising on the highways with less torqueOriginally posted by nagoo View PostNow this one is not directly related to CBR250R but indirectly referring

Was just using too much caution. My only worry still remains is if the xxW30 good enough for the summer heat. Which is why I'm currently using a 20W40 mineral.
Same question to you, as I've written above. 10W30 good enough for chennai heat?Originally posted by aargee View Post^^^ Brat, its not only about the particles or seal, one of the major point is that the ability of the 10W30 FS to withstand the capacity of engine heat is far far superior to the mineral or even the SS engine oil. How many kms on the ODO?
Couldn't have been put in a better way. At 4k, in 6th gear the engine definitely lugs.Originally posted by aargee View Post6th gear speed 65 Kmph versus 6th gear speed 75 Kmph. One question which I've heard being asked here couple of times: There is a certain tick tick sound (which is very fast) while pulling the bike from 4.5k in 4th or 5th gear. All is well? You are not a chemical. So think before you react.
