She is 6400km Old Now
Guys I have completed 6300km on my baby ceeber.
To be very frank at the beginning I was not happy with the refinement and fit finish of the bike, but as she accumulated miles I have fallen for her fully now.
Having driven 150 n 200 cc bikes before like CBZ and Pulsars engine was rough to me, but after all these miles the feel is totally different now n is GOOD.
In munching all these miles it has been a absolutely trouble free experience which includes a Coimbatore-Brahmapur dash of appx 4000km not a single hiccup, she performed brilliantly.
Have been using Honda FS (Throttle) till now but am planning to change to Motul FS engine oil in next oil change(I have been changing oil at 4k interval except 1st which was at 600km and 2nd at 4000km) as Motul had made a world of difference to my Pulsar 220. Any suggestions/experience on this?
In the mean while I have painted her all black, makes the bike look much better and planning to give her the Joel treatment in my next Bangalore visit in Jun, at least I am changing the Exhaust for sure.
Regarding the fit n finish issue, my bike had uneven panel gap between fuel tank and the matt plastic cover on sides, cowl on top of fuel tank which couldn't be corrected by the service station guys. These have been set correctly by me when I opened her up for painting black.
regarding normal wear n tear items...the brake shoes are good for another 5k atleast as they are more than half thickness from new however the plastic which sits on left swing arm to prevent the chain from rubbing the swing arm is almost gone, will surely need replacement in another 500 km.
Over all happy with my Blackey....

Thanks a lot for the confirmation from your side Go-cool....Glad to know and now I feel relief.Originally posted by Go-cool View PostNeel, I had a similar problem and Honda guys diagnosed it to be a battery failure. I got my battery replaced under warranty and no further issues till now...
Yes, My SVC acted up fast by sending a CBR mech today with a spare of starter assembly/kit (cost printed on the box 1600/-) as they presume that gone kaput.
first he check the battery and then installed that new kit for cross checking ,but still my bike didn't respond...OLD starter assembly goes back to its place.
So he took the battery with necessary doc to engage the warranty claim procedure with Exide.
Service visit costed 200/-.
Now lets see.Last edited by Neel08; 04-26-2012, 01:50 AM.

I do not know what u mean by shims. By my experience with bikes from 7 years one thing I know is that a loose tappet makes bike feel rough. In case of pulsars its a different issue as they have a separate unit Called gear loading. Coming back, all new bikes come from showroom has to complete Runnin with a relatively larger valve clearance that is adjusted in 1st service when bike is completely cool, its wrong to adjust when engine is still warm as metal contracts when cooled. In case its not adjusted properly engine tends to vibrate more even during idling. My mechanic also said cbr has a very large valve clearance gap compared to most. Correct me if I am wrongOriginally posted by aargee View PostWhaat? Loose tappet? Did you know about Shims? Are you sure?
my knowledge is practical. I don't have much theoritical knowledge.

If 10w30 grade is available in motul go ahead. I only used 15w50 on my pulsar so not sure if there is a 10w30 available.__________________Originally posted by techfreak View PostGuys I have completed 6300km on my baby ceeber.

I plan to use Motul 300v 4T factory Line 10W40 as in fully synthetic 10w30 oil is not there in Motul product lineup. Honda recommends 10w30 and I am planning to use 10w40 so it exceeds the reqmts, should not be a problem for sure and better for our hotter climes. Any expert take on this??

I would suggest against Zapper Q. I use it on my ZMA, negligible grip on wet surface. Rather you can try Zapper Vyde, heard good reveiws about it.Originally posted by chicmagnet View PostAnyone changed their rear tyres on the CBR? Thinking of going for Zapper Q 140/70-17..Any inputs?Siddhartha

That is the biggest insult you can do to CBR!!! If you're using 10W30, the oil change interval is 6000 (Six Thousand) Kms!!! I've tested it upto 56xx odd Kms & was forced to give for service because there were too much vibrations, not for engine oil change. C'mon have some faith with Honda enginesOriginally posted by techfreak View PostI have been changing oil at 4k interval
Brake PADSOriginally posted by techfreak View Postthe brake shoes
There's another easy way to measure; the lesser the distance between them indicates the time to change.Originally posted by techfreak View Postare good for another 5k atleast as they are more than half thickness from new

Its made out of rubber & called Chain SliderOriginally posted by techfreak View Posthowever the plastic which sits on left swing arm to prevent the chain from rubbing the swing arm
Then you haven't gone through post #7600Originally posted by samarth14feb View PostI do not know what u mean by shims
Can't compare other 4jokes with CBR
Nice theory that holds good for any other bike than CBROriginally posted by samarth14feb View PostBy my experience... more even during idling
Well, I don't know what to say; just go through #7600, you'll get a good idea of what CBR's engine is about & then take a call if your mech is right or wrong. By mech, I take that the CBR mechanic at HMSI ASC & not a regular workshop fellow.Originally posted by samarth14feb View PostMy mechanic also said cbr has a very large valve clearance gap compared to most. +1; I've been on the same linesOriginally posted by techfreak View PostI plan to use Motul 300v 4T factory Line 10W40 as in fully synthetic 10w30 oil is not there in Motul product lineup
I'm not an expert, but would like to pen down my thoughts, but if you want only an expert's view, I'm open to removeOriginally posted by techfreak View PostHonda recommends 10w30... and I am planning to use 10w40 so it exceeds the reqmts, should not be a problem for sure and better for our hotter climes. I'm really awaiting to see how the heck the 10W30 performs w.r.t Indian Summer. HMSI almost challenges saying 10W30 is more than sufficient which got me to think probably their 10W30 FS might have more additives that with stands heat. Y'day for a distance of 10 Kms, the fan kept running frequently, not when riding, whenever the bike went to idling, the fan kept running. Something I was really not happy to see; that said, when the bike was parked in shade for just 10 minutes, it dropped a bar, which usually is the case even during Winter.
I'll keep my observation posted here; that said, I too am keen to see the results with 300VLast edited by aargee; 04-26-2012, 10:16 AM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
