  • The picture shows a throttle valve return stop, positioning screw. Adjusting this will increase or decrease the idle RPM, and the ECU can adjust, and compensate through the idle air valve actuation...but ECU action is to an extent only.Opening the throttle valve more than the idle air valves range will definitely increase the idle RPM, but lead to higher, off acceleration idle ,and roll on ....just as Ashwin had experienced..hence it is generally not advisable to play with MPFi idle setting without knowing the PROCEDURE FOR THE PARTICULAR ENGINE...just my thought.

I may be out of my league here, but just sharing this info.

The thing is that for the time being in my car I get a bump in idle and even though after a while it settles down automatically, the accelerator behaves different from stock, theres a change in per gear roll on as well, and the ECU cuts off earlier than its supposed to, and to bring everything back to normal, we'd have to set the cable tention to near default and then reset the ECU to get things back to normal, in cars its done by disconnecting the battery for a night.

So in your case the worst case scenereo could be that you'll have to reset the ECU. But still, better safe than sorry.
I guess u guys r right . There is a gap in my engie cowl, like its split, has it lost any screws or should it b replaced ?

      • Slightly open engine bottom cowl is not a big problem, most likely the nut holding it together will be missing, just replace it and it will close its mouth. :-) you can check it yourself, just try to look/feel below the snout portion you should have a nut there.

Even my bike had lot of panel gaps which the SVC guys cudnt get right, finally took the chance n opened up the whole thing one day and spent good 4hrs to put it back carefully and its ok now. :-)

Fortunately there is one more gear for the bike called the 6th gear, didn't you check that

                • Buddy i think 6th gear in CBR is overdrive n in my case also i have always achieved tp speed on 5th only ! So in real world term at the overdrive gear you get less torque so increasing speed is difficult but u can maintain speed. Overdrive gear is good for cruising.

sorry overdrive, what does it mean? i am getting the meaning of your post with respect to context, but not the exact meaning of overdrive. Care to explain.

It was not that far on the map.

                    • Overdrive simply means when the rotational speed of wheel is more than the rotational speed of engine.

Ok, so why is overdrive a reason that top speed can't be achieved in 6th gear?

                        • What i feel it is because:-
                          1. Lack of torque in overdrive gear compared to non overdrive gear.
                          2. On CBR i have noticed on 6th gear your RPM hardly increases beyond 9.5 k.

                          • Overdrive gear means the gears which have a very low gear ratio's most probably below 1, the purpose for these gears are to release tention, and hence making the bike rideable at higher speeds with lesser stress to the engine.

When put on overdrive the bike doesnt accelerate much, since their purpose itself is just to relieve stress from the engine.

Another fit example would be the 5th gear in Maruti cars, even if you take the car past 140kmph in 4th gear, when shifted to 5th you wont feel that the car is in its power band, and hence accelerates at a gradual phase.

AFAIK the CBR's final gear ratio is 0.962

                            • +1, very rightly said. It is not the case only with Maruti but most of the cases its true.

My experiences is the bike's AF feels lean in 6th gear...if its top speed you're after, you'll get notable difference in 5th gear.
