Did you have to carry fuel on any stretch during the Ladakh trip? We are planning the trip in August,so just wanted to know the kind of range you got on a tankful of fuel in those riding conditions. There is a stretch near Tandi where there is no fuel station for a distance of around 365 kms is what I understand. Also can you point me to your trip log(if you have one)along with any other information that I need to know with respect to the CBR while there.Heard you got pretty bad Slush while crossing Rohtang.
    Thanks in Advance.

There is a lot of information in this thread. And Aargee has compiled some wonderful posts answering many questions.
Go to page no 750, 760 and 820, and read post no 7500, 7600 and 8200 respectively.

Aargee, are there any more posts? I remember only these 3.

My bike returned me a mileage of around 35 at most places and 38 on the leh manali stretch. The 365km stretch is now actually 330 km since there is a petrol pump at Karu now. I have not yet written a trip log for this ride.
If you need some pointers for August, you could check my last years trip log http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/1...ld-ladakh.html
This was on a 220 with my wife as pillion and in terrible weather conditions.

There was hardly any slush at Rohtang compared to last year. Barely a 50m stretch where as last year it was 10 km of struggle. In August, it might be raining so the slush could be a bit more. The biggest problem i faced with the CBR was in the gravel. The stock tyres are pathetic on sandy gravel. Apart from that, be careful of the engine guard - mine cracked when it hit a rock in a water crossing in zozila. The radiator is gonna get extremely dirty and a toothbrush is compulsory for cleaning it.

            • A squeak noise while running

Guys, I am hearing a strange squeak sound from my bike while running. While idling the sound is not heard neither when the bike is not moving. I suspect the sound may be from the chain. I lubed it exactly 1000kms before. Here it has been raining for two days. So the chain is not very clean.

Also, I found the chain touching the chain slider. Is it supposed to be so?
              Any inputs will be appreciated

Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight.

It was not that far on the map.

Please confirm that the sound is from the chain itself. If its chain try clean and lube the chain. 1000kms is an idea period for clean and lubing the chain, but it depends on other factors especially when you ride in the rains. At that period you need to clean and lube at 500kms again that depends on how clean the chain is. As a precaution do the cleaning and lubing regularly which is no way a negative. Also I suggest you to check the wear of the chain slider which may also be the issue, if its worn out change it. Tight the chain in regular intervals atleast during 1000kms.

                • AFAIK the sound comes only on moving not while stationary, so my guess it s from chain. Till yesterday the slightest sound was not there. I am going to do the chain lube and chain tightening tomorrow and check whether the sound repeats, either way the chain slider should it touch the chain?

I was unable to get past 144. There were very strong cross winds and i could literally feel it. The mileage that i got was just 25kmpl and within the city i get 28.5kmpl(which i've been tracking for more than 500 kms). I have done 150+ many times. This time the bike never crossed 9k rpm in 6th gear even though i had full throttle open this time most of the way. It looked like the bike is not capable of doing more than 144kmph. This proves that cross winds have a major role to play in top speeds and mileage.
I will return back on tuesday and will try to keep the bike below 120 and see how much mileage it returns.
While coming back to delhi i kept my bike constantly at around 120-125. I got a mileage of about 28kmpl which is what i expect out of my bike. Btw i did Ludhiana-Delhi non stop and it took me 4 hours to cover a distance of 320 kms. In the way i noticed some strange sound coming out of my bike which was nothing but loose chain. The chain had become extremely loose and became very dry also.

I use a pin and a toothbrush to clean it up, although its important to be gentle as to not bend the fins. The dangerous bit is if stones hit it while riding, its the only only prob i have with the bike.

                      • Pushing the experience.

                        Hi all,

Recently bought a CBR250r about a month ago. Used to own a bullet which went with me all the way to the far corners of this country. Now i find myself sitting on this machine and this feeling of meeting a long lost good friend comes to my mind everytime; calm, well behaved, responsive and fun.

Frankly, i never expected a sports bike to be as comfortable as the Honda CBR250r, the ergonomics especially for a 6 footer is fabulous. In the correct riding position the bike feels supremely well handled and is an absolute pleasure to ride. So much that i fail to understand my own obsession for riding it. Top marks to Honda, i recently tested the Yam r15 and boy was i happy about owning my bike.

Its been a little more than a fortnight and ive already done the first service and clocked an extra 1.5k over and above. I literally have contributed to pointless emissions in Bangalore, constantly circling the city. With this beauty i know im not going to safeguard its virginity for a second owner at 10k odo like some people do, im going to romance the road with this beast. Pardon me for the paradoxical usage of both beauty and beast, but that my friend is the bike.

Now, I started with this post mainly to herald any bikers in need of the 'elixir of life', also known as a 'Road Trip'. Being a Photographer, my need is much more desperate or life saving, so i'm off come July 1st week 2012 on a journey that takes me across India from Bangalore to Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh and finally Delhi. I chose this because of the exasperating effect that the monsoons have on the camera in India (apart from the fungus in the lens due to dampness), good effects i mean.

Here's the planned trip route, would be thrilled to get budget ac room hotels on the road that i/we travel in. Here goes:

                        Bangalore to Khandala

                        Khandala to Ujjain/Mandu/Indore

                        Ujjain to Udaipur/Mt Abu

                        Rest Day

                        Udaipur/Mt Abu to Bikaner

                        Bikaner to Amritsar

                        Amritsar to Dalhousie

                        Rest Day

                        Rest Day

                        Dalhousie to Delhi

Do suggest Budget hotels if you guys know of any, preferably somewhere close to the NHs.

If anyone does wants to share company, will be thrilled, do let me know. Even part of the route maybe.

                        Cheers all.

Mt Abu or Udaipur? Both have 2-3 hours of riding distance between them. If you're at Mt Abu, then, you've to stay there, no point simply riding up there & coming back.

Instead of Udaipur, stay at Rishabdev which is 30 Km before Udaipur. You get the same great service at half the price of Udaipur + the hotel is located bang on NH8. But if you're riding to Mt Abu from Vadodara, then, this is of no use; its handy only if you ride from Vadodara to Udaipur route.

In RJ, close your eyes & simply book at any RTDC hotel; you get complimentary BFast + offseason discount & most importantly...no one to mess around the bike

                          • There are times when i want to change the tyres on my bike especially the rear. Yesterday took her out in the first rain, and just when i was beginning to appreciate the traction on the drenched tarmac(i was actually going to write how impressed i was with the tyres new found grip...until), here comes a sharp right turn and the rear tyre slides and i am not sure if its my skill(this is like the 5th time ive come to nearly getting tossed off the bike with that sliding rear tyre) or just sheer luck i managed to straighten it out just in time.

However there are times when i appreciate the grip, especially during straightline braking. The ABS saved my behind twice on NH 17 in the rain yesterday. Unexpected large crater sized potholes at places where you least expect them.
I do know why HMSI decided to go with the ContiGo thoug. These tyres take a lot of beating but wont give up easily. They were intended to last long so people didnt have to go tyre hunting every few months.
