Completed almost a month of ownership (Tricolor - ABS - Delhi)
Hi all,
I am closing in on almost a month of ownership of CBR 250R-ABS - Tricolor. Have not been able to ride her much - just about 500kms till now.
Top speed touched till now - 100 kmph. Have been following the method mentioned in aargee's FAQ for run-in - usually ride her below 6500 rpm with occassional burst to 8000 rpm. The bike feels smooth till about 6000 rpm, but vibrations through footpeg and seat increse beyond that - is that normal and will it go post first sevice or could this be a symptom of incorrect valve clearance? Other than that, the bike feels good - has a comfortable sitting position with good power/torque and is easy to ride at slow as well as fast pace...
Another problem that has been present since day one is vibration noise from the meter/console area - it went away for a day after I washed the bike but came back the next day - will get it checked during 1st service...
Have read about the lack of grip of tyre in the forum, but thankfully I have not experienced any such issue - have ridden in rain and wet roads and the grip feels okay while riding and braking (ABS being partly responsible for that).
One question - my first service is due in a week's time. The service coupon says that valve clearance is to be checked at first service but in the group I have read some comments that ASC do not check it saying that it is not required. Seeing the feedback of ASC (that they create more problems than solve), should I insist on getting the valave clearance checked in 1st service - or are there any particular symptoms which if present would necessiate valve clearance inspection ?
Also, am not planning to get my bike washed at ASC seeing that most of them tend to bend the fins - would rather wash her carefully myself...
Planning to get the service done from Rajindra Honda's workshop in Shahdara - any one planning to be there this weekend? Any other better ASC recommended? (could not find any positive recommendaton in 'Service' section compiled by aargee..).

Sambit Mishra insist for fully synthetic 10w30 engine oil which is packed in Black coloured plastic Honda tins.Request the ASC to conduct the service infront of U.Do get the valve thing checked for they won`t do it unless U insisted.Do take out time & watch that the whole servicing procedure is carried out to the letter. Each & every task is carried out .Last edited by Pruthviraj; 09-19-2012, 01:03 AM.

Sambit this also for U, have been using K&N HA2511 which is a direct fitment air filter, no modifications required, is OK nothing to write about still, has been using fully synthetic oil for last 1year will recommend it surely, 10w40 FS will also do in hot climate or constant high speed riding. No other fitments done, removed saree guard & front No.plate.Using backpack for all the carrying required.Last edited by Pruthviraj; 09-19-2012, 01:06 AM.

If u want to wash your bike carefully then also do the valve clearance carefully yourself. because doing a valve clearance is more important than washing a bike.Originally posted by thebiker2k2 View PostOne question - my first service is due in a week's time. Dont tell them to check the clearance...because they create more problem than they solve --u heard right.
They do the valve clearance without using feeler gauge, which is more important. they do just by estimation.
They never do valve clearance correctly and your will bike create problem in the long run, either u'll loose compression or u'll heard tappet noise like kat-kat-kat
So do-it-yourself man! Dont let them even touch it. check your manual book to how to do. Buy the things u need.

I do plan to be present when the bike is serviced. Quick question - checking for the valve clearance would require removing the side fairing as well as tank - right ?Originally posted by paul.1911 View PostIf u want to wash your bike carefully then also do the valve clearance carefully yourself. because doing a valve clearance is more important than washing a bike.

Also, Paul, I appreciate your advice and can really feel what you mean but washing is a relatively easy job - does not require too much material. However, checking valve clearance will probably require many more tools, and some experience and also some good space around where I can work - none of which is easy to have... So, I will probably get it done from ASC itself but in-front of me and hope that the mechanic there is competent...
Any feedback on a good ASC/mechanic in NCR region will be highly appreciated...
And do you think it is better to get the first few services done from the ASC of the dealer where I bought the bike from - do they attend to the bike better than some other ASC would?

When i've done the valve clearance first time in my bike, i'm too not having any experience on that, but i done it coz i was having a confidence and patience. Its very easy man just believe in yourself. No one can do it without proper gauge, and mechanics never use it. For example, i dont know about yours bike clearance gap size but in my bike the clearance on inlet and outlet valve should be 0.05 mm and this so much little gap that cannot be done by just estimation (andaaj se). It is done by using .05 mm gauge, which no mechanic use it. If clearance is more it'll not create any problem but will create noise. If there is no clearance then your bike will loose compression hence pick-up & mileage both and effect the engine life. and thats what probably happen with every bike owner when their mechanic touched it.Originally posted by thebiker2k2 View PostAlso, Paul, I appreciate your advice and can really feel what you mean but washing is a relatively easy job - does not require too much material. So i'm telling u if u cant do it, dont let them even touch it even if they do it in front of you, u'll never know if they have done correct or not. and take this thing out of your mind that they will do correctly, they dont. I've very bad experience with this therefore i'm telling u. leave it.
For the time timing your valves do not require any adjustments, they will fool u that they are adjusting it and will charge u.
There is very less tools required man, just believe in yourself, at least read your manual book u'll know at least what it is. If possible buy things and do it in your friends home. U can do it man!
U dont require good space, its not necessary to have experience, only very few tools required which u can bought from your local shops.
Edit: Its better to buy because as per ur manual valve clearance needs to check at every 2000 kms, and u r paying Rs.30 or more for every time clearance, in every 10,000 kms u'll be paying Rs.150 and for 1,00,000 kms u would have paid more than Rs.1500 only for valve clearance where job is not done perfectly.
So, why u r going to pay every time, a few tools will may cost about 500 or less but u'll be having your own tools and also u'll be saving money for every time clearance and also the job u'll be doing is going to be a 100% perfect! So there are three benefits.Last edited by paul.1911; 09-19-2012, 12:15 PM.| SOL 68s | Rynox Tornado Pro | Rynox Advento | Cramster TRG2 | Scoyco MC20 | Hero 5 and SJ6 |

The Valve clearance in the CBR 250R is by means of Shim which are available with only the Honda Authorised Service Centers..It also requires Digital vernier Calipers for measurement...and there are four valves for which four sets of measurements and four Shims are necessary...each Shim costs Rs.250/-When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

paint peeling where? mudguard? And yes ive gone through the same about a month ago with the fork oil leak.. nothing to fear except for the fact that your bike will be at the ASC for atleast a week. About the paint peel ask them to replace the mudguard for youOriginally posted by satheez_7 View PostHi Guys. My CBR have done only 850 kms and its due for 1st service. So yours related to front fork. But in my case, oil is coming from one part which is for combined brakes I guess. My only worry is, if they need any spare to rectify it then i need to wait for atleast a week as u saidOriginally posted by Nithesh View Postpaint peeling where? mudguard? ya the e-oil u r talking about is well known to me but i am concern about 10w40 fs, it wont hamper anything ?
and the air filter of k & n you are using, whats the cost of it and where from u got that ?
any significant performance or FE change you noticed ?Last edited by sambitmishra4one; 09-20-2012, 03:58 AM.

Part no. 7 is the speedo sensorOriginally posted by sambitmishra4one View PostFriends where is the speed senson connected in cbr ?
Someone saying rear/front sprocket, someone saying flywheel etc etc
but my question is if it is true then while doing burnout the speedometer must show some speed, so is it really true ?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
