I am still extremely dissatisfied with the mileage - have completed almost 1000 kms now, 1st service over, using Honda 10W30 FS and the engine is lot more free now - but still I am getting a miserable 24-25kpl in city (heavy traffic riding at 4000-5000 RPM, shifting at 5500 RPMs) and 30 in highway (Cruising at 6000 RPM/100 KPH).

that too less.. you gotta get it checked.. even with heavy traffic it never went below 32 for me and regular use its 34 odd.. for highway i have seen FE from 27 to 45..

      something seriously wrong...

      air flow (filter )
      injector (cleaning/checkup)
      tyre pressure
      chain slack..
      valve clearance/shim issue...

also use tank to tank method.. reset trip and check again..
for me from blink to blink it generally takes 9.5-9.6 litres and returns 324-328 km for blink again..

I keep exactly 1L of petrol in my sidebox and refill it once the last bar starts blinking while running (sometimes it blinks while starting the bike but remains steady at 1 bar while running). That's how I arrive at my mileage figures. I also keep a tab on my pressures and do a check twice a week - front 29, rear 34. Will have to check the rest of the variables at the ASC
BTW the User manual mentions the air filter to be non-serviceable - in case of any issues, will it be replaced under warranty?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

1L might work or might not work as the fuel meter of CBR is very unreliable. for it does not work on pressure over the sensor and tha tank shape isint something easy.
i would suggest once you get a blink this time. reset the trip and fill uptil brim. you would get around 9.5 litres.
            calculate then...

air filter is use and throw types. honda states filter replacement at 12k however indian road conditions with the dust and debris i change at 6k
as you stated its been only 1k no need now. change the gas station and see it it makes a diffrence.

Sapphire Honda is currently the best of the lot, but it's located at JP nagar. I bought (and completed my 1st service) at City Honda, they are not bad either.

                • Will bhp increase if we remove air filter cap under seat for CBR250R ?

I removed the air filter cap fr my cbr250r which is under the rider seat, as mentioned by owners it does increase exhaust sound a bit and rpm climbs up faster. Will there be any difference in bhp?

Negligible in real world scenario. But, it'll accumulate more dust and may be harmful in the long run as it'll allow fine particles to seep through.

put it back asap. besides the placebo effect of feeling that the bike goes fast nothing else happens.. oh yeah the sound grunt at 4k rpm is fun though..

downside. cbr already runs lean till 6k and then runs open loop beyond that..
so while de-accelerating the bike wil now or later start sputtering or even misfiring.
i havent heard it but faced it.. bike used to turn off while de-accelrating at 3k rpm in any gear. only reason i found was it running super lean..
i tried resetting the ECU.. no go...

                            put it back asap.

no change it FE or power. yes the vibes went off and felt a lil better low end torque but the top-end faded..

                            • CBR 250R questions

I am Krishna Prasad, 37 years old from Bangalore. I am riding Suzuki Fiero from 2001. I am considering an upgrade. I want to keep this new upgrade bike for say another 5 years. My main usage will be some short distance touring on weekends, fun ride and occasional commute in the city.
I was considering CBR250r or Ninja 650N as an option and now slowly leaning on CBR. I have read post number 7500 from @aargee in this ownership thread. Very good work and spirited. Thanks.
I have following questions on CBR–
                              1. I went for a Test Ride (TR) and total ride was about a kilometer (2-3 minutes). I am not sure by test ride(s) only I would be able to make up my mind. The ride position felt unusual as I am used to more upright position. During TR, showroom sales guy was sitting in pillion (who was atleast 1.5 times my weight), that might have had an impact on handling?.
                              2. Did anybody moving from upright to this semi-sporty position felt uneasy (I am not seeing enough bike portion ahead of me as in Fiero) in the beginning? (I know that we get accustomed to these ergonomics as we get used to it in time but I am worried about a possibility that I may still feel this later too and want to know owners experience who felt uneasy in the beginning and if they are now OK or not?).
                              3. While doing solo, is the torque good enough or we have to do frequent gear changes. I am enjoying good gear spread on Fiero, so for my weight, I could do 20kmph on third/fourth gear without any lugging with good torque to accelerate later. During TR of CBR, I found that torque was fair enough to take two of us up a decent incline at about 25-30Kmph in third gear, but couldn’t conclude on this aspect yet.
So, want to know owners feedback on riding at low speed/RPM in higher gears (so avoid frequent gear changes in traffic)?. Any observations to share?
                              4. In the TR bike after starting the bike in neutral, while idling after changing to first gear, I was unable to get it back to neutral and I could only shift to second gear. Is it a feature or flaw?. I am able to find the neutral once engine is killed. However, sales guy was clue less on that but somehow could find neutral.
                              5. Do showrooms allow solo test rides?, I didn’t ask that day and if it is not a norm then don’t want to push for it.

                              Thanks a lot.
                              Yours truly.

                                1. take a test ride again and check it out well. riding position is definitely not like fiero but not agreesive like r15. its just feels right.
a few days of riding and you will be just fine with it. yes if the guy in pillion is heavy then the front get a lil jumpy and does affecting handling.

                                2. fiero's headlight assembly is connected to the fork or lets say moves with the handle. now with faired bikes this is normal phenomenon
it will make you uneasy for 2-3 days. once you done riding for 100 odd km's you will be good.

                                3. cbr250r is a pretty torquey motor. you wont be needing frequent gear shifts however do not expect to run in 40's/50's in 5th/6th gear.. it will knock..
but sufficient torque for city use.

                                4. gear shifts are smooth. might be just a improper set clutch and hence difficult to find neutral.
also due to the toe position being more sporty than fiero it might have happened. once you get
a run-in of body with the machine a few days and you will love it..

                                5. not sure about showrooms giving solo rides. PM bangalore guys for the same.. rest everything and anything
bout the CBR you have already checked AARGEE's post...

and n650 no go for short commute.. yeah if you still have the finances and wanna enjoy the 72 horse go for it.
but 250 is just apt of India...
