and the mech is true about the shims.. as to open the head cover the engine needs to be unmounted and a long procedure. i dont think you'd need a shim replacement until 12k-14k
and there is no setting to be done in it.. its use n throw stuff..
I second that completely from personal experience.

My bike had its second service at 6000km, just after the Mah-Guj Interstate meet at Daman and Vansda. Engine oil and filter changed, chain lubed (was not charged for this, nice of the ASC...).

Now, she is smooth at 100k/6200 rpm whereas, this rpm was reached earlier but with noticeable harshness. This engine seems like a diesel; takes a long time to smoothen out!

One more thing. Earlier, she used to sit comfortably at 5000 rpm/84-odd kph. Now, she is as smooth but at 6200/100 kph.

I personally think that this shim issue has been blown a bit out of proportion - my bike is of the very first batch (May 2011) and has had zero probs with the engine. May be 'cause I ran her in very gradually. The max RPM I plan reach, as a matter of principle, is 80% of the redline which here is about 8000.

This bike too, like any other, needs to be loved skilfully, not in an amateurish wham-bam-thank you-mam style

Thanks. I realized that. The old colours are still intact as of now.

            HI,
Sincere thanks to all of you who answered my questions and hats off to RG on answers and FAQs.
I booked Black ABS model today (Saphire Honda, JP nagar).
I was debating between black and red. Red was looking really distinct.
But as a tribute to my black Fiero, I selected black.
As the luck may have it, show room had a lone black ABS model.
He told me that it is 2013 model (still old colour scheme).
Sales told me that new lot will come only after 15 days.
Normally. I am not used to waiting when it comes to matters like this.
I had a hard look at the bike for couple of minutes. All plastic wrapping was removed, but silencer was wrapped.
The bike left side fairing had a couple of deep scratches and was painted black to hide it (why paint it?).
            Wind shield had minor scratches.
I told them to replace left fairing and wind shield, which was agreed upon immediately.
I wanted to check odo (before PDI, how to see Odo, battery won't be connected right?), but first he told that he couldn't
get key and later told me that battery also may not be connected .
So, I would like to be there on PDI day before the registration to see these replacements are made and no other new issues introduced.
Extended warranty and 0% depreciation insurance is opted. I am planning to bring bike home next week asap after registration.
            Thanks.
            Sincerely,

all ladies got their tantrums.. this one is no exception...pamper it and she'd make u smile.
+1 for the statement and yes the shims issue had been exaggerated a bit....

after all we gotta find the sweet spot..

indeed at 100 she is a charm even at 120ish.. that all i wish to do..all day
100 kmph is just fine for india.. grew up with her and realized that this thing is really practical.

i read your thread sir.. but trust me.. if ever you visit leh again.. let her beat the gravel and muck ..she wont let u down...

the chain cover+mud flap together is called tyre hugger

the rear tyre hugger should be around 580 odd

                    • @Guys, whats' an ideal payload for a CBR?
I was riding with a pillion yesterday and my friend was riding his ZMR alone. I was zapped seeing his acceleration - his stock ZMR literally left the CBR biting dust - it was only after 85kph that the CBR started taking the lead - the ZMR clearly beat my CBR in 0-60 runs. I was really disheartened after seeing this dismal performance - the CBR makes 25BHP compared to the ZMR's 17BHP, so does it mean that having a pillion can really affect the acceleration to such an extent where a 17BHP bike beats a 25BHP bike? I couldn't get a chance for a solo side-by-side speed run to check how the CBR stacks up with a doubly loaded ZMR but any feedback here is welcome.

take 10 no t-spanner and over the front sprocket cover and clean that area throughly first with a brush and diesel . put it back and then clean the rest of the chain too.
like throughly. i mean the chain will get silvery shiney. let it dry for some time and then put it back on stand.
to be very true all the chain cleaners have similar base properties like that of the kerosene. .however diesel is fine for the o-ring. people who know more can help on this topic.
Tried your method this weekend. Cleaned my chain back to its silvery glory using kerosene and I could feel the difference instantly. And I saved myself a good 500 bucks for that tank-up at Shell! Thanks again!

for me from blink to blink it generally takes 9.5-9.6 litres and returns 324-328 km for blink again..
Tried your method Bro...For me, blink to blink takes around 10.5 litres and rund for around 315-325 km in a mixed City (60%) + highway (40%) cycle.

welcome mate.. get a chain spray too. i use the local ones that my mechanic uses for P220 chain. its good . cant say if it betters the big brand but for 80rs bottle it does the job well
and a very small amount is just fine.. though it will dirty the rim as well but the chain cleaning and spray cost of service center puts me off...

here comes the torque into picture..and power to weight ratio... (ex : R15 and duke) you having a pillion and he riding alone will be a lot of diffrence...
first of all with a pillion if you push it hard you are always running into popping a wheel or the front feeling like not planted on road..

so had the bike been with more torque it would have pulled it better. but again the whole dynamics of the engine and tuning it to the sweet spot etc etc is a long never ending discussion.

and its an accepted fact the 17bhp given similar conditions wont beat CBR.. but again.. the conditions need to be identical...

given similar situation a bull would have pulled it better to take the pillion load and still accelerate well...(torque)

I own a CBR 150R and it has abysmal torque. FZ`s will have better initial acceleration than my CBR, but in top speed, CBR is great. This is my personal experience(my cousin has a FZS) !! In highway, top speed matters.

How can you even compare the two bro? One thing, you'd a pillion rider on board and he (ZMR rider) had none.
That said, ZMR is one of the few bikes which has higher torque figures (18 NM) compared to power (17.6 bhp). Hence, it pulls efficiently. Much like a detuned bull.

I'm sure you can rip past ZMR in all gears. I've a ZMR and I had the luck of riding a CBR as well. There's a noticeable difference right from the 1st gear itself. Past 4th gear over 6k RPM, you're bound to see ZMR in your RVMs and you still have 2 more gearshifts left!
