So he suggested me cleaning of fuel tank and then fill with fresh fuel, after doing this after running it for around 100 kms the sound will disappear.

At the end i was not much convinced but he insisted me to take this path so i agreed at the end, my worry is that yesterday was my last day of warranty.

I am telling you the same thing..
The secondary air is used to reduce the emissions.

    All,

Just wanted to give update, i took my bike on Thursday from ASC and did the test drive and it appears that there is no noise coming from engine and the engine appears very smooth and ride quality improved alot, i asked the mechanic what else you have done in bike which eliminates the noise completely, he told me that he cleaned the tank after removing the oil and replaced with the new oil and fixed some screw.... he also mentioned that bike will become more smoother once you cross 100 km on odo after service. to ensure i also did some 60-70 km ride on this weekend to make sure things are fixed now, and it appears that bike running superb now.

Just one more question, what measure needs to be taken when you are not riding bike alot and if the bike is idle for few weeks (say 4 weeks)?.

    Thanks all

That's cool! Whatever the problem was, glad that the bike is back to normal.

4 weeks is not a long time for a bike to be specially taken care of. If you are leaving it idle for more than 2 or 3 months, few simple things to do will be to:
      1. Disconnect the battery, top up distilled water, apply vaseline/grease to the terminals and keep the battery aside.
      2. Inflate the tires to a bit more than 29 psi, say 31-32 psi.
      3. Wash the bike and wax it. Apply a thin film of oil on parts prone to rust.
      4. Park the bike in 1st gear on firm ground.
      5. Use a good quality cover over the bike.

I don't think anything else is required.

Just a bit curious to know why are you saying to top up Battery with distilled water as CBR comes with maintenance free battery. And whats the reason behind parking the bike in 1st gear. Are you indicating towards No movement of the bike or something else ?

That's a wonderful information, how about fuel which is there in tank , does it requires to drain all the oil from tank if keeping it for long term?

I had mentioned that point with normal batteries in mind. My mistake, sorry about that. About parking the bike in 1st gear, yeah, I mean keeping the bike still. As the side stand is a bit straight when compared to other bikes, it would avoid falls if someone meddles with the bike.

The owner's manual mentions about emptying the tank and spraying aerosol inside the tank. But that would be applicable if you are going to keep your bike idle for relatively long period. For a month's time, I think you don't have to worry about it. However, a full tank can be risky if your surroundings are not safe enough.

Apart from that you need to put 2table spoons of engine oil into your piston head and crank start the engine ( by disconnecting the spark plug ) so the piston moves and the oil ll get settled all around the bore. This ll prevent rusting inside the engine and even cover your exhaust nozzle with some airtight plastic material or you can wrap it with a plastic piece and tie some thread around it ( inorder to prevent any insects going inside it) .

                Going to Bangalore morrow.

                STarting the journey frm Udupi..

                Two routes....
                1> Mangalore--- Shiridi Ghats--- Bangalore
                2> Karkala------ Charmadi Ghats--- Bangalore

The second route is longer... but I heard since previous month the charmadi ghats are better than shiradi ghats.
Has there been any change to the roads on shiradi ghats?
Is it worth taking the two hr extra long drive through Charmadi ghats?

                Thank you.

                  Hi Guys,

I have a 2011 Oct CBR Std, which has covered 6000kms. I have an issue with some weird noises from the Engine. I know this is a common issue and has been discussed many times here. But was unable to zero in on the info I was looking for.

The Service advisor said that the Rocker arm might have worn out and the shims might need replacement too, but the appointment i have got for service is 2 weeks away.

I wanna know if I can ride the bike in this state, the noise is the regular Bullet type tappet noise at low rpms, also a slight whirring noise at higher RPMs. The Mech said its fine to ride the bike around, but am skeptical of that! Please advice!

                      • Honda CBR250R

My younger brother took away my Pulsar 220 DTSi when he secured his admission into a neighbouring district's college. So the hunt for the new bike began.

                        Initial shortlist

BajajAvenger-Superb bike, good engine & awesome comfort. But it lacked reardisc & tubeless tyres.
BajajPulsar 200 NS-Awesome looks, great engine, gearbox & monoshock. But, the bikewasn't available in my town (it was launched on 7th August)
HondaUnicorn -Very mature bike. Good looks, awesome gearbox, great handling & agem of an engine. Was rejected due to low power.
HondaCBR250R-Was taken into consideration because it was available in India. That's it.
YamahaYZF-R15-Great handling, looks & engine. Was rejected because of toosporty & focused nature & was small for my build (5'11")
TVSApache RTR 180 (ABS)-Great bike, good engine but posture wasn't good for my taste.
KTMDuke 200-Great engine, awesome pick-up, good handling but rejected due to thepillion seat.

Didn'ttook any Hero MotoCorp's vehicle into consideration because frankly,I don't like the company & their attitude towards Indian bikers.

                        Thetest-drive period :-

Thenthe rounds of the showroom began. Avenger was the first to be testridden. It is a great bike, has a good posture & has a great pickup. But the problem was its lack of tubeless tyres. I could've donewithout the rear-disc, but tubeless tyres was something that Iwanted.
ThenI went to Honda showroom to take a test ride of Honda Unicorn. Theride was great & so was the handling. But as I'm addicted to thepower of Pulsar 220, I felt that the bike's power was very low for mytaste. So I rejected it. Then came the turn of Apache RTR 180 (ABS).The brakes were damn awesome, the engine was also good, although Ifelt that the engine feels stressed above 6k RPM. But the ridingposture wasn't good. Everything else was OK with the bike. I didn'tgo to the Yamaha showroom as my friend already has the R15-2.0. Irode it, rejected it after just 1 KM due to the sitting posture. ThenDuke was also rejected by my dad due to pathetic pillion seat.Atlast, I went to the Honda showroom again. I requested the test-rideof CBR250R which was promptly given. I rode the ABS version. I wasblown away by the engine. It was so responsive. The brakes were goodtoo & the bike looked awesome. In my mind, I had already selectedthis bike as my preferred bike.

                        The covincing family period :-

So,I chose the STD version which was of Rs. 150093 in my state. The ABSversion was around Rs. 178000 which was too high for me. When Italked to my dad about the bike, he said that we can get a Nano forthat price. But as we already have a Chevrolet Beat in the family, Isaid that getting another car will be impractical. After about 1 weekwith heated arguments with my parents, they agreed.

                        The delivery day :-

Italked to a family priest & he suggested August 2nd(Rakshabandhan Day) as the D-Day. I went to the showroom, paid the DD& took the bike home. It was raining heavily that day & therains continued for another 4 days. The delivery experience was verygood with A.G. Honda.

                        Review:-Design & engineering:-

                        Engine & Transmission:-

                        Engine:Gearbox & clutch :-Ride & handling :-

                        Switchgear & electrical system:-

                        Conclusion:-

TheHonda CBR250R is an awesome bike. The price is good too but if Hondacan slash it by Rs. 10000, then it can be a viable option to thebuyers of KTM Duke 200 & Yamaha R15.

Engine:- Verdict:- 9.5/10 (0.5 deducted for lack of smoothness)

                        Gearbox & Clutch :-Verdict:- 10/10

                        Ride & Handling :-
                        Verdict:- 9/10 Pros:-
                        • Awesome engine.
                        • Brilliant gearbox & clutch.
                        • Spare parts are cheap.
                        • Efficient for a 250 cc bike.
                        • Awesome long distance tourer.
                        • Lights are good. Good spread at night.

                        Cons:-
                        • Not that Honda smoothness that I was looking for.
                        • Not satisfied with the Honda Throttle 10W30 engine oil & I can't put the Motul 300V either because the warranty will be void.

Learnt that Michelin launched Pilot Street (not in India) tyres for CBR250R worldwide about 2months back. A pair of these tyres cost Rs10,000 equiv in most countries. It looks exactly like Pilot Road 2, but bias-ply and radial options meant for lower end mcycles... any one tried getting this into India...?

What are the available options with prices for a CBR250 rear tyres?

                            ContiGo!

I am leaning towards the MRF as the tyres made by them for the R15 are good at the price point.

Do Tyre shops take back the old tyre and adjust your bill?
Are they equipped to remove the wheel, chains, discs and replace the tyre (considering the CBR requires additional attention)?

                            thank you!

Where in BLR are you put up? There is a tyre store called Pitstop on 80 ft road, Sanjaynagar (near Hebbal) who stocks Contigos. Not sure about MRF though. They have proper gear to swap the tire and its done by trained guys. They do deduct upto 500 rupees on the old tire, provided its in a good condition. (The bill is NOT adjusted. A different guy comes to buy back your old tire)

I've been slowly taking the bike to higher rpms in each gear & getting better rideablility with less vibes and noise. Initially I used to feel vibrations on tank at 4-5k rpms right from 1st gear which are no longer present now, leading me to assume that the previous owner did not run it well through the rev range in lower gears.
Today had an opportunity to rev till 6-7k rpm from 1st gear and continued to do the same throughout my 18 km ride for 2nd and 3rd too.

However there is a metal clanging noise at 7k rpm in 1st and at 7.5k in 2nd. To borrow a quote from the Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance, it feels like some loose change rattling around inside.

Am I over revving the engine beyond safe limits?
                                Experts, please advise.
