Re: Honda CBR250R
Yes. I got my AMC back in July for 900 bucks and i get 3 service coupons and 2 free wash coupons... It is absolutely of no use because the cost you save on the labor and spares are sometimes less than what you pay for the AMC :/Originally posted by rapperswil View PostGot a $5 head? Re: Honda CBR 250R
I finally got my black baby CBR. This one is a head turner I couldn't help but get worried when most of the people who would pass by while I am desperately waiting for the priest to perform the pooja and the people would come to touch the bike.
While I rode the bike home from the showroom it was dark and there was bye power cut in my area and I could imagine myself being a Dark Knight and riding the bat mobile.
Guys, I would need your help in guiding me to a genuine place to buy a good helmet something that is within the range of 6 - 7k in Bangalore and also suggest a good one. The current Vega Boolean served very good for past 6 years together with my ZMA-R and it's now painful to separate from them. But life must go on. The ZMA-R took the beating from the worst service by the ASCs all over Bangalore. Dheena motors did a commendable job for a period of 2 yrs but he too closed his shop and that left me with no other option than to switch. Hope the Haiku Domlur guys are better in treating the CBR.

I think you are within the safe limits!. Shifting at 6-7K rpm is perfectly alright. When I shift at 6K+, sometimes I do reach and shift at 7-7.5K on open roads (it is not ripping).Originally posted by New guy View PostI've been slowly taking the bike to higher rpms in each gear & getting better rideablility with less vibes and noise. Initially I used to feel vibrations on tank at 4-5k rpms right from 1st gear which are no longer present now, leading me to assume that the previous owner did not run it well through the rev range in lower gears.
Today had an opportunity to rev till 6-7k rpm from 1st gear and continued to do the same throughout my 18 km ride for 2nd and 3rd too.
However there is a metal clanging noise at 7k rpm in 1st and at 7.5k in 2nd. To borrow a quote from the Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance, it feels like some loose change rattling around inside.
Am I over revving the engine beyond safe limits?
Experts, please advise.
It is safe limit and we don't ride it continuously in that 1st gear anyway. For spirited riding, fun of CBR starts after 5.5K in lower gears - enjoy it though it could feel bit vibey at times . For lazy highway flying - I use 5K to 6K in 6th. I guess that now you have opened up the CBR - it will be a very eager machine now on and will progressively urge you to shift upwards.
High RPMs, welcome!.
I am not sure about the noise - hope the chain is not too slack. I would take it to ASC. Lets wait for the experts here too.~shifting at 6K RPM

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Went for a epic trip covering Wayanad, Mutthanga forest(kerala) , Bandipur Tiger reserve(KArnatka) and Muthamalai Tiger reserve(Tamil nadu) , was a kick ass journey.. And the cbr performed well, and a few fishtailing too at the rainy areas, but the contigo's performed good on the dry tarmac.

Re: Honda CBR250R
Thanks, I found the engine even smoother at 9-10k in 1st this morning, almost doing a wheelie as I shifted into 2nd.Originally posted by kpvision View Postreposting with reply.

The chain is OK as I recently got it serviced. Noise seemed to be from the engine as I slowly revved up 7k rpm onwards. This also goes away as I keep on doing it and allowing for engine braking. Quick revving till red-line seems to produce no noise. so I guess its just a matter of the engine getting used to higher rpms.
Thanks for the advice.

The cost of one paid service = 550/-. In a year 2 recommended services will alone cost 550 * 2 = 1100. Plus you get 20% off on parts and 5% off on labour.
If you don't have a trusted mechanic, it looks like a reasonable figure to me.

I am in Koramangala Block 1. Hebbal might be too far for me (family and work!). THanks for the info. I also learned that the Dunlop Tuff Grips are another option.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostWhere in BLR are you put up? There is a tyre store called Pitstop on 80 ft road, Sanjaynagar (near Hebbal) who stocks Contigos. Not sure about MRF though. They have proper gear to swap the tire and its done by trained guys. They do deduct upto 500 rupees on the old tire, provided its in a good condition. (The bill is NOT adjusted. A different guy comes to buy back your old tire)
So
MRF = good
Dunlop = better
PSD = best
Contigo = Not so good.
Michelin = ?
Best

Let's hope Hero Motors releases their rendition of the CBR250 with a covered chain guard, a 3 yr warranty and a more creative choice of colours.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostCongrats bro. Rest assured CBR is like Karizma++.

My POV on different brands.Originally posted by rapperswil View PostI am in Koramangala Block 1. Hebbal might be too far for me (family and work!). THanks for the info. I also learned that the Dunlop Tuff Grips are another option.
So
MRF = good
Dunlop = better
PSD = best
Contigo = Not so good.
Michelin = ?
Best
MRF = good all round. (dry/wet/gravel) Okayish life for an enthusiast, long lasting for a commuter. (if you know what I mean)
Dunlop = slightly better than MRF, around the same life.
PSD = awesome grip till 8-10k. Don't expect more life if you're a corner craver or ride through bad roads more often than not. Its a nail magnet.
Contigo = Fair. Come on guys! Its not that bad. Ok, its bad in wet. Dry grip levels are just fine.
Michelin = Fair, but tends to fish tail in wet surfaces.
Best VFM tire according to me = MRF. Why not Dunlop? Simple reason - Availibility! You can give MRF guys a call and they deliver the tire at your doorstep. Don't know if Dunlop does so.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Honda CBR250R
I called Michelin CC number and they have no clue on this. Further, their website doesn't list the size for CBR. Saw a post here that it is available in Chennai. A pilot sporty.Originally posted by pitbull View PostLearnt that Michelin launched Pilot Street (not in India) tyres for CBR250R worldwide about 2months back. It looks exactly like Pilot Road 2, but bias-ply and radial options meant for lower end mcycles... any one tried getting this into India...?
May be a search/phone calls there could help.~shifting at 6K RPM
