  • Guys, today I was lucky to take one of my friend's CBR150 for a spin on the Highway. The bike has done about 2500Kms and he told me the bike went for service last week (not sure the svc count)

    What I noticed were,

    1) The bike was extremely smooth and I never knew I was doing 9000RPM.
    2) I am 65Kgs and no pillion, so did not feel short of torque in any gear.
    3) The fairing/console from the riders point of view was like Fazer. Riding posture almost or a little more sportier than R15.
    4) All Honda's sound similar, CBR150 is no exception.
    5) The RPM meter looks fascinating in dark, it brings the racing spirit in you.

    My Dislikes,

    1) When I first saw the Black/White CBR150, I thought it was Dazzler, the fairing is not eye catching at all,as in the R15.

    2) Instrument cluster adopted from the 100CCs, was a Pain to handle. Honda should have used the same Minda cluster used on RTRs and R15s.

    3) Mileage reported by my friend is 35Kmpl in city under sane riding. I am sure it should be same or even less on the highways coz no one can ride the CBR150 sanely on the highway

    4) In general, I hate Honda showroom's attitude and wait time (Both sales and SVC)

Owners pls throw some light on these two points,

    5) Without crouching I was able to hit 121KMPH only and once I tuck-in I was able to see about 136KMPH in a stretch and the R15/P220 will also show a similar/better number in the same stretch. (Was expecting more). Also after hitting 136KMPH I almost felt the same torque-less feeling that I get on R15/P220, I mean the numbers on speedo were not rushing after 130Kph.

    6) I personally feel that the CBR150 has no big difference to its competition interms of performance. I feel the RTR180 will do better than the CBR150 till 100kays. The Taiwanese version should have done more justification to the price tag.

Also I shifted gears at 9-9.5K RPM, So what I feel is after detuning the bike from 19.5Bhp to 17.6Bhp the sprockets should have be redone to short gear and achieve the maximum power at 8500RPM as like the R15, which would have made the acceleration and bottom end torque much better (Which is a gift for city rides)

Is my perception wrong? can the owner's update on the real world performance of CBR150? (sorry if I am asking you to repeat )

But on the bill it says THROTTLE 100% Synthetic Engine Oil, is that a problem should I ask them to change it again? Please answer quickly because I do not want to damage my Baby. The machine is what it is, a premium built for Indian roads. And I have a few questions, just wondering if anyone else have that problem. I get annoying vibrations from the Visor above 6k Rpm, does anyone else have it and also, I get a metallic sound whenever there are bumps, when I ask the guy at the center he tells me that its just the chain hitting against something as it is slack. Does anyone else have the same problems?
Can Someone Please reply to this post immediately as am constantly riding the Bike and do not want to damage my Baby.

      • @harish you are fixated towards r15. Both are different bikes. So it has both its cons and pros. For the mileage, im doing a long tour and im getting around 43 kmpl average (highway and city).

No, I am not advocating for R15 and why would I do that on a CBR ownership thread, its just that the R15 seems to be the closest competitor and launched a few years ago, so assuming it as a bench mark I have given my views. (If Pulsar 150 was designed like R15/CBR150 then I would have mentioned as P150 )

That was same as I feel as an owner.

Not, the fairing, but also the headlight if it were double lamp design, CBR would for sure turned more heads.. But, then the muscular look that I get with this design would be changed to sportier, and am happy with this. This blends in!

And regarding the dealer and service, well bro, honda is not much customer caring as indian companies, and thats a known fact!

With mileage, My Jade is just back from her first service and till date, she had munched 500kms gulping fuel worth Rs.1000.. So that turns around 38kmpl or something..

Regarding thai version and ours, what I have heard is that the rear sprocket of indian is 42 and thai is 43..and so the chnge in figures., though I never tried counting those on mine!

And for sure, that need for extra torque does not pop up until a pillion climbs on board.,

and I have never ridden a RTR 180, but I feel when CBR is claimed to beat R15 in lap timings, it outperformes apache too!, also the power to weight ratio of CBR is higher than both baby R and RTR..,so I hope when ridden revved up, you can juice the performance from this baby blade.. And thats how she too feels happy to be ridden!!
The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

Yeah the r15 is the best in looks and even the switchgear is top notch. Yeah the CBR 150 has the worst switchgear for that category. I went for CBR because it had good ergonomics and good rear seat and rail grabs.
Still I haven't pushed the bike to higher revs. Im waiting for the second service to be done.

Actually I missed a point here totally, which my friend (the CBR150 owner) pointed out just now. If you ride the RTR180 and CBR150 back to back you will feel the RTR180 to have more power. Thats coz the CBR engine/chassis is much refined and absolutely no vibes. Hence we take very less notice while the RPM climbs up. The case is opposite on RTR you will have lot of vibes from the engine/chassis and you will literally feel the throttle grunt on the accelerator. This cause the virtual feeling that RTRs have more power while accelerating.(Also the torque figures are in favor of RTR too) A real life, direct drag or dyno test should be in favor of CBR150.

But still my question is left unanswered, Sitting upright I was able to do only 121Kph and once I tuck-in I was able to do about 136Kph and the speedo was very shy to move forward, means it would take a few secs to jump to the next digit. I am very sure the wind disturbance was not an issue too. So is it the same with you guys too?

                  I switched gears at 9-9.5RPM

                    1) Where did you get the 19.5bhp figure now? You must be referring to the older carb 150R and not the new Fi version.
                    2) You are comparing two bikes here. SOHC vs DOHC. I suggest you lookup the difference between the two engines and their pros and cons before you talk about redoing the sprockets etc etc. DOHC is built to extract power at higher rpms unlike SOHC and hence you need to revv the 150R more than the R15. I hope you got the point. Speaking Of acceleration i think the 150R does 0-100 in just 3 gears and is a few milliseconds quicker if not almost the same as the rival.
                    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

                      1) Check this link , I hope you were aware of the Thai release of 2011 CBR150R prior to Indian launch, currently the 2011 CBR150R - PGMFI makes 19.5BHP in Thailand. The head, TB, ECU are detuned. So thats why I raised the question, why not the sprockets are combined shorter?

                      2) Yes I got the technical difference between SOHC and DOHC, it makes the engine more refined.

                      3) My question is still not answered, if thats the max a CBR150 could do?

If you get a chance to ride your friend's bike again try to shift the gears at around 10-10.7k where its power peaks changing gears at 9-9.5k Might do good in r15 but in cbr you have to rev it more than r15.Even redlining in each gears will be good. Just try it may do well.

Guess, this will be unanswered at-least for now... Cause, no owner here is past 2.5k odo expect a one or two. I remember Mulli with ~3.5k odo and he's on due his next service. So, probably after giving the time for "the engine to understand the owner", if not others, I'll try to answer your question!

I have done 140 on the odo.. and if you dont short shift there is no sluggishness as far as speed build up is considered. In fact past 8k rpm is the sweetest spot in the bike's rev range

and, I have reached 100kmph at 3rd gear at ~redline... sadly, the road ended., Guess the baby blade has enough grunt to reach 140 easily...

Well people have reported towards the beginning 145 kmph on odo.. Even when I was doing 140 it felt that it still had steam left just that there werent enough roads ahead . If u choke CBR at 136 then u must hav short shifted
