Rust is inevitable (unless your bike has the chrome of a hero honda joy or a tvs fiero rims ) bikes in coastal areas are more prone to rust because of all the humidity and salt around. Keep it dry as far as possible and dont cover a wet bike with a cover! Your bike is better of wet and open rather then wet under the covers!
Tape up the area around the speedo screen! (digitals I wonder why are prone to fogging up), put a little fork oil or gear oil inside the key holes(thicker oils stay there longer) and after the rainy season goes away spray a little kerosene or diesel in the hole let it dry and then reapply oil...leaving old oil in will be bad.
Cap up air filling valves of tyres, grease all bearings, put a little vaseline (any petroleum jelly will do) on bike battery terminals, battery box is highly prone to rust due to the acidic battery and fumes released by it. Its much lesser with the dry cell battries. Wipe this area clean once a weak and cover this area in vaseline (thin layer).
The thing about rust is you need to manage it well. Structural rust must be avoided at all costs and I believe bike companies are not doing much to ensure this during the manufacturing process. Now you don't have to worry about rusted tanks and panels on the ns. Try to keep the chain lubed up well. Wipe all nuts and bolts and just stick some grease on them. If you can, heres a quick tip to protect screw holes that are prone to rust (switch gear screws and say the screws on the front brake master cylinder are rust magnets)....buy a whitener pen(yes a correction fluid whitener pen) and just put a little whitener on the screw holes that you feel are prone to rust! that's it. Its quick drying, waterproof, easy application, wont drip etc, cheap and will come off the moment you stick a screw driver in to twist the screw! Wont leave stains or scars either! I had put a dab of whitener correction fluid on a screw and it lasted 3 years before I had to un screw it! Give it s shot. Sorry guys if im unable to provide scientific methods, its just tried and tested "jugaar tech." I can provide rest assured they work!

Hey guys its been six months of ownership.. 2000 + on odo..first service was done in January wen odo was at 400...I usually ride d bike on weekends nd stil hav not taken it fr more than 80 km...this is the history of my bike..I have to issues which always bother the first being the discharge of battery..I used to go outdoor coz of dat situations occured wen was not ridden fr approx 1 weeks n battery got discharge.and I had to push start couple of times making it a scene of embarrassment in my colony..wen contacted service centre they said u need to run d every second day to keep it charge..keeping thos words in mind I started riding frequently nd my actual last push start was 3 months ago as I used to ride regularly so I thought this problem has vanished.. but last week my bike was in reserve nd I was checking how much my bike can run in reserve...so I was running it in reserve nd didn't ride fr just 2 days nd after that bije didn't start..battery started making kit kit kinda noise under seat..I understood it gt discharge... nd had to ho fr a push start..yet another scene to cherish for my colony..so I just wanna was this very push start was becoz of reserve or something else? Do anyone else has come across such situations of very weak battery.

My next query is dat this Saturday I was riding my bike in evening it was about to rain nd within minutes it started raining heavily I stopped my bike under a tree and waited, me n my bike got drenched fully..this is d first tym bike had a raining experience. Lemme remind u bike is still in reserve..wen the rain got low I thought of heading towards home..it was still drizzling nd bike stopped with in 5 minutes in between the traffic. I tried to start it but it didn't.. took d bike to side of d road nd wen I put d key to ignition the dash didn't lit up. I tried numerous times but it didn't work..the bike was fully dead..no usual dash procedure wen we put d key..I thought fuel has been completely used..so pushed it to the nearby petrol pump filled the tank wid 7 litres of petrol tried to start it again but nothing happened to bike..this has happened for the very first time in 6 months..was it d reserve condition or the rain responsible fr this.. I think its an electrical failure..wen I couldn't find any mechanic in south mumbai for nearly 3 hours I called my frnd n had to push it to 4 km with the help of his bike to take d bike to my place...being sunday no service got my call..Please help me with the situation..im taking my bike to ladakh nxt month.. but this incident has lost my faith in my bike

It could be electrical issue with loose wire or battery.Your bike is still under warrenty so don't look anywhere, just go straight to SVC and make a strong comment on that.I also have to abandon my bike for many times for more than 2 weeks due to work but everytime i start with choke it always works for me.

I don't know whats wrong with my bike I have already got it checked with SVC twice..evrytime they run the bike nd checked its charging..n everytime they say battery is fine u just need to keep the bike running in every 4-5 days else it wil discharge...one more thing do u guys always switch off the engine kill switch after riding the bike...does keeping that switch on drain the battery ?

And mind explaining how would that drain the battery ?

and the battery doesn't get discharged in only 4-5 days of not riding.

                Ride safe and have fun.

                    It won't drain the battery.

I always abandon my bike for 3-4 weeks sometime a month but all this time i never had to face a problem with battery,i even put the switch on,the only thing is i do is turn the fuel knob to off, don't want to face carb problem.

                            • Wednesday, 11th June (Day of the ride)

I woke up at 04:00 AM in the morning. Did my daily chores, got ready, bid adieu to my parents and saddled up. The time was about 05:15 AM when I started to roll off. The fuel was very low so decided to fill up before hitting the highway. Went to a nearby trusted bunk but only to find out it was closed. Then rode to another bunk that too was closed. Now it was starting to get on my nerves. After about 20 minutes and approx. 8 kms on the odo, I found an open bunk. Filled her up tank full with Rs. 500 petrol. Now, I was all set to kiss the tarmac.

In a few more kilometers I reached Panipat. On NH1 the roads from Delhi to Panipat are very good paved with multiple lanes. But after Panipat, the roads are very bad, with lots of diversions due to under construction fly-overs and bad tarmac. As I crossed Panipat, traffic started show up, buses, SUVs et al. As I was riding, I thought about the cagers overtaking me, that they have very powerful engines etc. Suddenly, a red alto car overtook me from the left, and went ahead on going ahead, its rear LHS tire bursted. It happened just about 10 meters ahead of me. With a loud noise, the tire busted and the car spinned and hit the divider by its back. I slowed down, pulled up at the side and went towards the car. Thankfully, everybody in the car was safe. That incident terrified me so much, that I also checked up my tires and decided not exceed speeds of 90 kmph.
After some more kilometers the first toll booth came up. Crossed the booth stopped, drank water, clicked pics and moved on.

By now, the Sun started to show up and heat was rising. Rode more kilometers before my butt started to ache. Stopped at a dhaba and ate Paranthas with cold drink. Before moving on I splashed some water on the tires to cool them up. My next stop was at the second toll booth after crossing Karnal.
