  • Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences

Hello everyone, my bike is now one year old and only 7000km run but i enjoyed every km on my baby.Every time i ride this beauty it makes me feel good. A few days earlier i learned something on highway that just crouching down can increase the speed dramatically without increasing the throttle input. I know this is obvious but i didn't know that the difference will be so much great at speeds above 90-100 km/h. So use this technique next time when you race with a car . I also want to review my purchase so here you go.
I bought 4 bungee ropes a few months back and used them to tie heavy bags on my NS. Grey bag shown in the pic was nearly 10-12 kg in weight. I traveled 250 km with speeds upto 90-100 km/h most of the times and sometimes touching 125-130. I also enjoyed mountain twisties with some of them like U turns at speeds ranging from 40- 80 km/h may be more. I checked the bag a few times but it didn't move an inch. So if you are not a hardcore tourer and want to travel 200-300 km in one day then this configuration is very good. One rope will cost you 50 Rs, 2 are good for a light bag and 4 of them can hold very heavy bags. Also mounting and unmounting is super fast. Use it and have fun.

      Hi Guys,

I am a newbie owner of a Pulsar 200 NS and I have some questions around Biking. Although, some of the questions were well answered in some Threads, there are a few more. Hope you guys can help me out. I love to ride distant places and explore far off always. So, a few things need to be known before having safe and long trips.

I just bought my 200 NS 3 days ago from Dewan Bajaj, Delhi (Lajpath one). I am very excited to get my first service done at 500 kms and so I am riding too much. Not exceeding above 60 kmph for the time until first service and so on as the Dealer guys have explained to me.

      1. Ok, for the first one. The Coolant Liquid of my 200 NS is just somehow touching the MIN level. I asked the dealer Mechanic to top it up but he said that it would be done at first service. So, I just want to ensure if he was right? Or if he was not what should I do?

      2. I have just spent 1 year in NCR and stay in Noida-Ghaziabad. i am not aware of all places and Google Maps had been the only way I have commuted to all places unknown. While biking, it is impossible to hold your phone, look at it and drive. I even tried voice navigation my plugging my headphones and keeping the phone in my pocket. Well it works for the first few minutes, but then either the screen turns off due to pressure on the power button while in pocket and all.*
So, whats the best way to use GPS while biking?
I have heard of Mobile Holders mounted on bike handle but that seems unsafe because no holder could hold my phone in position when I am in a jerky Ghaziabad Road. I some type of Mobile holder strap available for holding my phone with the Petrol Tank? If not, what according to you is the best way to use GPS while biking?

      3. My Temporary RC will come in 10 days. Until then, can I get my PUC done? Because, that's one of the mandatory documents to carry.

      4. I need a bike cleaning kit, like the brushes and wax and all sorts of foam and cleaning liquids shown on Youtube, but those brands/products not available in India as per my knowledge. Where do I get to buy a proper Bike Cleaning kit in Delhi NCR (Noida/Ghaziabad preferably)?

      5. Regarding Biking Gear like Knee Caps etc. Thanks to you all, I already got my answer from one of the posts here.

      6. In Delhi NCR, Bike getting stolen is pretty common. What should I do to prevent that?
Like, I got a disc lock and the normal bike lock. Apart from that, is some GPS based tracker or alert system available in India?*
I was imagining of a GPS based Tracker and an Android App to alert me or some digital lock that can alert me if I activate the lock? Sorry, these are just guesses, but I felt that something of that sort should be fool-proof.

Thanks a lot guys, looking forward to a lot of long rides and waiting specially for the Ladakh Trip on the world's 2nd highest motorable road.

Btw, my best trip was from Pune to Dajipur during my 3 years of stay in Pune. It was a 950 km (up-down) journey covered by me and my friend (only pillion rider) in 1.5 days (just the weekend). And also, I did it using a rented Pulsar 150 (round headlight). But, although all of you would know, Dajipur Bison reserve forest is the only Jungle safari where Bikes are allowed. Its a rough rocky terrain to the core area and back. The funny part is that while watching Bisons from a distance was fun, while returning from the core area, I almost froze when I spotted a Bison around 10-12 feet from me while I was riding. Damn!! Will post a long episode of that someday with Pics. But, i still know it was one of the most adventurous, best, thrilling and in the end tiring Bike ride of my life till now.

My xBHP sessions starts here and I hope I will just rage with my 200 NS and have a lot lot and a lot of safe long thrilling rides across the length and breadth of our country. Happy and Safe Riding!!!

      Thanks,
      Chandrajit Rudra

      Hey Guys,

Found a pretty good way to have your Phone installed on your bike's dash. Few days ago even this was a question to me, but now after experimenting with one of the Bike Mobile holders I feel its pretty good.

I tried it on the potholed roads of Ghaziabad and Noida. Yes, I took precautions like slowing down my bike near potholes but you know in Ghaziabad, some potholes are too big to stop a jerk. Amazingly, my phone was secured well in place. I even recorded a 10-15 min video for you to see. Video because you can estimate the jerks and all that came in the way.

That's a good buy Chandrajit but won't it cover the console when the phone is attached? The rider won't be able to see the speeds or the RPM while riding.
I can't view the video at work, will this cradle hold a large phone like a Note 2 or G3?

        Thanks

Yep, Samsung Notes will fit in. Even I tried a 7 " tab and that also fitted in. Only thing is that beyond 7" its pretty impossible.

Also, it does'nt block you speedo-tacho and all. You can adjust the flexible handle to make sure you have a full view of all stuffs.

Now, the only thing that remains is a mobile charger to keep my Google Maps on for longer periods. I am trying to find a solution for that as well and hope will post it soon.

Yeah, seems like a good buy and will help when using a GPS or the phone's GPS / navigation software but I wouldn't recommend anything on your bike that could distract you while riding or make you take your eyes off the road. When driving, we can afford to be a little "relaxed" but wouldn't suggest the same when riding a bike as a split second is all it takes for you to crash / avoid a disaster.

Was planning to fix my camera on my Pulsar NS's handle for a trip I just made but decided against it as I didn't want to be focusing on two things at the same time. Am sure you purchased the mobile holder & fixed it for a purpose but please keep your safety and that of those around you as a priority while enjoying riding the NS

Try using a portable power bank to keep your mobile powered on long rides. There are small ones available and some that are quite slim / sleek as well. Maybe you could tape a power bank behind the mobile holder and connect it to your phone or find a way to stick it with double sided tape in the middle of the handle near the cone set.

I don't like messing with the bikes wiring so have suggested a power bank, which is a cheap option as well as won't change your bikes wiring. Of course, others with more knowledge / experience could advice ways to fix a mobile charger that runs off the bike battery directly

Xiaomi's 10000 mah powerbank will cost you 890-1000rs/- depends on discount. Considering its capacity it can charge a mobile 4 times easily. Rest of all powerbanks from other brands like sony, samsung etc will cost you 4 times the cost of xiaomi's at least.

                  Hi Chandrajit,

You can try this mechanic https://goo.gl/maps/nu0Go. His workship is by the name of Mahesh Motors and he's very reliable and trustworthy. Very knowledgeable guy he is, works on some big bikes as well. Located right opposite the Opulent mall.

Give him my reference. His number is 9911 822 325.

Another option is near the Vaishali metro station, Bike Point, Mechanic name Hansraj, number 99118 - 45756. I haven't tried him personally but some of my friends/colleague say he's good.

Also regarding the mobile phone holder, looks like a good option. However, I am not convinced with the plastic connecting points, might crack due to vibrations. See if you can somehow make another jugaad to hold the phone holder and the main body together.

p.s.: I live pretty close to Vijay Nagar, in Ghaziabad main city. Lets catch up some day.

                  Ditto.

Also apart from using the portable powerbank, you can try the usb charger mounted on a motorcycle. You can install it easily on your motorcycle and connect to the battery. it is a very easy plug and play device.

Available at Zeus for around 1200 http://www.amazon.in/ZEUS-Motorcycle-Usb-Charger/dp/B00OYUHJRO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1418108772&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+charger+motorcycle

if you have a little patience and can wait for around 30+ days for the delivery after your purchase, try these chinese options from aliexpress http://www.aliexpress.com/promotion/automobiles_motorcycle-usb-charger-promotion.html

                  lots of cheaper options available.

                    • Pulsar 200NS downshifting issues

I own a Pulsar 200NS that is about 5 months old, and have ridden it for 1500kms. Since, after about a month's of usage, my bike has always had downshifting issues. When, I downshift from 2->1 or sometimes even 3->2, the gear lever gets stuck somewhere in the middle, and I have to frantically keep tapping it, but it remains stuck. The issue is solved when I let go of the clutch a bit, and accelerate when the gear lever gives a sharp knock and falls right in place.

This is a very dangerous scenario as sometimes my mind is on the gear when it does not downshift properly instead of being on the road.

I live in Bangalore and bought the bike from Sarjapur Amba Bajaj. They haven't been able to fix it as they can't understand what the problem is. This seems to happen only after riding the bike for a bit in traffic. I got it checked from HSR Amba Bajaj too, but they were of no help either.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and where can I get it fixed from?

                      Thanks!

Regarding the bike mobile charger, I had an in-depth discussion with one of our local mechanic. Based on his calculations the 12V, 8 aH battery in the 200 ns and 1.2 amps, 5 v normal mobile charge outputs, the Bike battery is way more capable to handle a minimal charge like that. However, I am not sure how good his knowledge is and without a kick start on my NS, I do not want to get stuck at some odd place.

If I am planning to go as per his inputs, to be on the safer side, I will make sure my mobile is charging only when the bike is on the run.

Suggestion, if anyone has any experience about this please. Electrical engineers should give some replies.

No, I am sure that rattling noise is not coming from the phone because that was the noise coming from all the CNG 8-10-12-idk seater autos around that always rattle and humble that irritating noise. Well, if you are within speeds of 60 kmph, potholes and turns would'nt be of much disturbance but if its at 80-90 kmph and you fall in a big pothole, you may loose your phone. :/

Available at Zeus for around 1200 http://www.amazon.in/ZEUS-Motorcycle...ger+motorcycle

if you have a little patience and can wait for around 30+ days for the delivery after your purchase, try these chinese options from aliexpress http://www.aliexpress.com/promotion/...promotion.html

                            lots of cheaper options available.
Thanks Sunil for the Mechanic references.

Yep, lets catch up someday. Are you one who loves to go on long rides?

Will PM you my whatsapp no.

I didn't say you can bore anything. I was talking about a bike's cylinder kit which is referred to as a bore and piston. I was trying to tell the person I quoted that reboring cannot be performed on said cylinder as there is risk to the structural integrity of the cylinder if that is done.
By length I meant "Stroke" And I was definitely not talking about stroking anything (pun intended).
I think you may have mistaken my post for a statement about modification processes. It was simply an explanation of why mod cannot be done on p200NS cylinder. And FYI stroke measurment can never and should never be modified for any reason (not a question of easy or not) as the crank case is designed for a specific stroke length and set rotation only.
                              ok, i understood
you were asking if you get a ready made block and piston kit with an oversize bore for then 200 ns
i dont think you'll get it
but I've removed the liner from my FZ 153cc which had a 58mm inner dia and bored the block and put a bigger liner with an inner diameter of 65.5 mm (karizma piston) which has the same gudgeon pin dia as the fz ie.16mm
the NS is a weter cooled engine and I havnt seen the block so I cant tell you about the NS but boring the liner or the block is possible to some extent but you cannot get a ready made kit
you will have to buy a second hand block and you'll also have to calculate the compression ratio and put gaskets accordingly

Length wise the p220 bore is longer but width wise its narrower. But 200NS is still a 199cc bore and p220 is a 218cc bore.
Also 200NS bore is a lc bore which comes already bored to the cylinder's max metallurgical capacity. If one attempts to bore any further they risk cracking the bore up causing it to become useless. And trust me 200NS bores don't come cheap.
when you talk about a bore it means the diameter
when you talk about a stroke it means length
having a longer liner wont make any difference, it might touch the crank or if you make the block longer upward, you will reduce your compression ratio.
