  • This is my first post on xbhp. I have been following this ownership thread for the past three months. Way before i bought my 200NS. I am studying BE in Gwalior, M.P, bought this bike as I really needed one for going to coaching and college.
I got my yellow 200NS on 27th of september. Well My first bike, its been only 16 days and 550+ kms done on odo already. I had my first servicing done just yesterday.
The scv here told me that none of the spare parts of 200NS have arrived yet so they changed only the engine oil and didn't change the engine oil filter.
So i wanted to know if this would be of any problem??
    Help please..

    • 1500 km update of my Pulsar 200 NS!

It's just been 7 weeks to this day since I got my hands on my beauty. And I have to say I've been bowled over by this awesome product by Bajaj! Kudos! It doesn't really feel like it's just been 7 weeks..it feels like 7 years! The experiences I had with my bike, be it on little tours or the daily commute to my college, or perhaps the fun time spent with friends hanging out, are a lot lot more fun compared to what I had before, and all credits go to my bike! Of course I'd obviously feel so since I've upgraded from a scooty pep of 3 years but compared to my friends' rides, I feel mine stands out from the crowd.

      The pros:

      1. Superb handler! Tilts at corners are fun, especially watching cops making futile attempts to catch me! :P Even though the bike looks quite large (and tall) when parked next to most bikes and I'm a short guy, it doesn't feel like the bike's a glutton when ridden. I haven't changed the tires whatsoever, yet I'm happy with them for now. Only incident was that I had fishtailed once during panic breaking but the superb chassis of the NS ensured I stayed firm on 2 wheels.

      2. Looks: I personally loved the duke's looks (before buying this beauty), but now, I'm in love with the looks of my bike. I'm no longer a fan of the minimalistic rear end of the duke and from about 10 feet away, my blue NS looks fabulous! (No offence dukers, this post is not even remotely intended to hurt anybody). Besides, the vehicle is a chick magnet! Have become used to hard stares sometimes!

      3. Performance: Anyone who learns that I've upgraded from a scooty pep will definitely think I'm a throttle-happy little guy, but on a serious note, I loved the acceleration and pick up, especially after I did a diy on the fuel and afr screws. Even though I've mostly backed off from temptations of drags, sometimes I couldn't resist and that masterpiece of an engine has helped me defeat a duke once and a p220f thrice (all on empty stretches and with helmets). I have done absolutely no mods on the engine or the air filter and will continue to keep her functioning in stock form. And performance also includes braking, I must say the bite is excellent but I cant make any comparisons for I haven't ridden any other bike much. Only thing was that I found it to be pretty similar to that of the Duke's.

      4. Mileage: Though my riding style consists of 30% hard ripping and the rest commuting at average speeds of 50, the bike returned a mileage of 42.7 km/l (410 km for 9.6 liters, i.e tankfull to reserve). Pretty good for a 200cc mill isn't it?

      5. Sound: At first, I had the issue of the irritating tappet sound and the engine sounded a little, well, weird. But after the run in was completed, I noticed a considerable change in the exhaust note, particularly in the low rev range. At high revs, it still sounds like an inlin four, and that sound is music to my ears!

6: Vibrations: Yes, there were a few noticeable vibes at first, showing their prominence between 4 and 5.5k rpm, but after tightening a few bolts on the suspension forks, the headlamp and the console, and changing to shell ax7 semi synthetic at 1k kms, I found a vast disappearance of the irritating vibes from the engine as well as the body.

      The cons:

      1. The horn is pretty weak, especially for highways. In the city, the sound gives me a feeling of deja vu, like I'm horning on my ol' pep.

      2. The tyres, as mentioned before. They just swish away on sand, and don't let me make use of the perimeter frame's full potential. Will look into Pirelli sports demon post 5000 km. Can anyone tell me the price for one?

      3. The fuel knob, it looks like it's been plucked from a local bike and stuck on! No offence again!

Frankly, the pulsar 200 NS has kept me happy all along and hopefully will keep me just as happy in the future too. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone asking me "what bike?"

Just thinking, maybe I'd get a bigger bore for my babe after a few years. Wonder if that'll work like a charm, or mess it up.

      P.S. pics coming soon!
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

And I wonder why any of them do not recommend the 1 turn clockwise, 3 turns anticlockwise, taking out the broken screw and looking on the sky method like the 1 inch forward, 3 feet backward march.
And one more doubt. By mere turning of the AFR screw, how can we ensure that the engine is producing the maximum power, the exhaust gases are within the pollution limit and how much lean or rich the air/fuel mixture is? Is there any other reliable way other than depending the color of the spark plug? .
your frustrations on carb tuning is totally normal... there is no fixed 'no. of turns' that one can blindly follow.. now if you want an alternate method apart from the plug color, you can try this (if you are able to source it ):
Gunson | G4074 | Colortune Single Plug Kit
and read/google/youtube this colortune stuff... and read this Motorcycle Repair Course while you have the time, one of good ones for bike repairs/maintenance.

but all said n done (and read) carb tuning is learnt by experience and even the experienced guys will need to test 2 or 3 settings before fixing on one... the method given by psr/antz/sibun are all the same and should work out if you listen properly n follow the steps instead of concentrating on the 'no. of turns'.
And ofcourse many of them forget that the airfilter should be clean (not clogged up) while the carb is tuned.

don't ever say such things sir.. two turns the wrong way (too lean) and ur valves are fried..

            • Quite interested in this bike...Can anyone please provide some pics of the bike after some riding in the rain? Specially focusing on areas like near the monoshock as well as the engine area, where the muddy water is splashed from the front tyre.

You can follow this thread to see what NS can do, and how it looks after a long and hard ride.
[Photo Feature]: My first Solo Interstate ride On the 200 NS - Page 8

The fact is, the areas that you mention becomes a mess after some riding in the rain, but I can Guarantee you that the mud/dirt that the NS picks up, is quite less than what your Current ride does.., and you know I have experience in both the rides!!

And if you do decide to shift to NS from your current ride, If you will certainly miss the Comfort of your white beauty.
But having said that, the more you ride the NS , more you will feel in love with it. Anyone who is not impressed by the beast at the 1st ride, must ride it at least about 50-100 kms to understand fully what the beast can do

It was either engine oil, or brake oil which was spilled out. More chances of Engine oil.
So, if there was Quite an Amount that was spilled out, then you need to top up by going to SVC.
                        Take care, and ride safe..

                        • Mate , in most cases when a bike falls down or is tilted, the petrol from the carb is drained out via the overflow pipe or the bowl drain pipe, now for the engine oil to leak, there are only 3 ways through the oil filter gap, though it'll be very less, or from the filler cap, very less chance as it'll be very tight so less chance for leakage.
And brake fluid are either red or colorless(dot 3, dot 4) , if there is leakage of brake fluid the braking efficiency will be drastically affects and moreover it'll be pretty much visible, for these obvious reasons, brake fluid can be ruled out.

If i have mentioned something wrong please do correct.

                          Cheers

                          • @Rahul : I gave my bike yesterday to Service Centre, they were supposed to return it yesterday but they could not work on my bike so will give it to me on monday. Hope my issue is rectified.

Just 147kms on odo... Didn't ride it for 15 days... @chintan: mine too started at a single crank without choke after 12 days...no spluttering at all...no drama... Only thing haunting me is tuning and hard gear-shifts...its like blowing kicks literally... Btw you were to go the svc today na? Any updates? @myth: yo! Wassup man... That fuel indicator is total funny... Even i was shocked first but a call to shibadip cleared my doubts... The low fuel light has simply nothing to do with fuel... It will glow once there are two bars no matter how much fuel is there.... and i have rectified my clock running slow issue...just disconnect the battery and reconnect it@rahuldevnath: bhai whats the alternator output of the bike? How much watts?@everyone: i have removed the hugger and there are a lot of scratches underneath from flying stones... The underside of the rear panel shud have been matt finish... And anyone planning to change the handlebar to a single piece pipe unit like the duke...?
@Shiba : Check at other service centre or else call Bajaj. I doubt they would not be able to supply for so long as first service is due in 500kms.

I was in Chennai for a few days since had an appointment with doctor for mom.
On a free time visited a bigg helmet shop, (which just happened to be a wholesale distributor of Vega helmets) and found the booleean at that Jaw dropping price.
Had my apprehension of whether the airport authorities would allow the helmet to pass, but the doubt was cleared by one of the Most respected member here!!
The shop's name is Pioneer helmets and are the Vega factory approved outlet...I bought a Vega " Dominator " Fiber glass Full face helmet at Rs.800. the MRP is 950/-+tax.They also deal in " Globe " another reputed ISI branded helmet at competitive pricing....they also sell the visors separately in different shades for most top end helmets.

could have been the coolant too.. check all fluid levels (coolant, oil, brake fluid) and if anything is low get it topped up & observe for any leaks for a couple of days.
