  • This is the Motomax car polish i am using. It is supposed to be meant for cars. Is it a problem? It doesn't mention any abrasive materials in it.

    PREMIUM LIQUID POLISH
    http://www.motomax.in/exteriors_polishers.aspx

    Why use it
    1. It cleans the car finish for a premium shine and lasting lustre.
    2. Removes oxidation from the surface of your vehicle.
    3. Protects a car's surface against environmental damage like pollution, UV rays.

    Got it for Rs.70

Hi Tejas, Wax/polish made for car can be used on bikes too... I dont think there will be surface cleaning products explicitly for bikes... I just bought Turtle wax for my NS and it also says car wax.....

However Polishes have been known to contain abrassives (cos their function is not only to shine the paint but also remove scratches...)

One thing i want to ask seniors is can we use wax on plastic parts also like tyre hugger and console parts ?? or is it just the colored parts?

Motomax has separate products for bikes and cars. The polish meant for bike mentions abrasive material.
And i guess it just forms a layer over the scratches giving it gloss finish.
There is separate polish for plastic parts/dashboard and above polish is for painted parts.
What is better wax or cream polish? I am just worried of paint fading since my NS lies daylong in direct sunlight at my office parking.

And regarding the radiator fan, They could have kept it on always and varied the speed depending on the temperature like in PCs

Isn't the motomax car polish meant only for painted metal parts ,our NS has fibre parts .

A good wax is any day better than a polish...rather the best.
Motomax's most of the polishes and waxes contain abrasives in the form of polishers. The micro polishers dont form a layer over the scratch, rather take away some part of the part...something like using a sand paper to rub out the scratches. And as NS has non-metallic parts, its advisable to stay away from such products.
And that liquid polish is no way PROTECTING your bike. Its just to give it a shine, courtesy micro polishers.

And btw is it true that LC engines like those on the NS and duke need to be allowed to idle for about a minute or two after a long session of riding and heating up?

Thanks for the DIY.. As with many,, i too have this console vibratiing issue, but the SVC manager promised me to replace the console in warranty, once the spares arrive.

For the idleing question - My suggestion would be "NOT NECESARILY EVERYTIME".
such kind of idleing is required for a Turbocharged vehicle, to cool off the turbo bearings.
However, in NS/Duke, don't instantly switch off if the fan is running. let the fan stop, and then switch off ur bike. Otherwise there is a chance for the coolant to overflow as it remains expanded due to excess heat (unless it is cooled off by the fan to a certain temperature)..

                I might be Wrong though!!

                • Hey guys!
Im having this really annoying issue...i noticed it today while removing the saree guard...
Whatever bolt that passes through this hole(of the correct size of course),(picture attached),
                  gets its thread worn out!
The factory fitted bolt itself was worn out when I removed the saree guard
I've tried out 4 different allen bolts, and all their threads got worn out.
The other hole seems to be good.No issues with that one.

Is there any solution to this? Will I have to tap the hole again?

PS:This picture is not clicked by me,it was posted by a fellow xBhpian on this thread,I just used it as a reference.

The ASC is replcaing the whole console for you under warranty just because it vibrates??

                    • 1 Sad thing happened to me today. One of my friend told me that its a good habbit to turn off the fuel switch when parking in hot sun.
I did so, but when i came back and went for a ride i forgot to turn in ON . It ran fine till about 2 KMs and i was on 6th gear, but then Suddenly rear tire got locked and engine went off and the bike went skidding some distance. Hopefully i slowed down to 30-35kmph for speed braker and this happed when i down shifted.
Is this normal? I even doubt after looking at the skid that i must have accidently pressed rear disc :? but it is very rare.
But nothing happend and i am safe. I am new to gear biking.

Please share, if you know what happened.

Your friend has given you the right tip. When the bike is going to be idle for a long time it's good to turn the fuel tap to the OFF position. The tap is provided for this very reason. There are chances of the carb getting flooded.

If you forget to turn it on while riding, much before your tyre gets locked the engine will give you signs that it's running out of fuel. It will jerk and seem out of breath. That's your cue to check if the fuel tap is in the ON position. If it is in teh ON position then simply turn it to the RESERVE position.

Since your new to geared biking you're finding it a bit strange. You'll figure it out soon. All the best!

Thanks! Of course, it's been a habit to idle the bike for a minute before and after a good workup. I don't find any signs of coolant level going down..I don't know if the radiator fan is working because I can't really make out if it's on while I'm riding. Mostly I have the sound of wind in my ears. Also, here in mysore, the roads aren't usually jam packed so I can manage a good 60-70 kmph on an average every time The bike heats up pretty much and I can feel the heat more prominently on my left leg. I can't really make out if the coolant is functioning as required or is simply sealed up in the radiator.

I have NEVER followed the policy of turning off the fuel knob. Is it alright to do so?

When the fan is working you will feel hot air flowing over ur left leg with some force .I usually turns on only in bumper to bumper traffic ,so with your riding conditions hopefully you wont be seeing it work any time soon .

Just rev the bike hard at neutral for 5 minutes the fan will start working....
