  • Got my NS (Red) delivered last Saturday, and what else should i say, I dont feel like getting off the bike

I got used to this geared bike same day i bought it *(I didn't have much experience with geared bikes). As mentioned by many, im too feeling vibrations in 4-5k range but i dont mind them at all. I dont even realise when i am on the 6th gear. I have not exceeded 80 kmph in the run-in. Just love the way eyes turn around to have a glance of this bike
I am searching for center stand but didn't find anywhere. The oficial Bajaj Spares outlet tol me to wait for a week till their order arrives They are quoting 600 + Fitting charges .
Got Motomax Shampoo and Polish, and i am not dissappointed at all.
Did some stickering. Pics coming soon...

        • Congratulations !
Is this the normal cost of the center-stand for the bike ? seems too high to me too ...
Beware that at least one of the Motomax polishes (Motomax liquid polish, formerly known as Roberts Liquid Polish) contains abrasive . Thanks to Motomax(Pidilite) for clearly mentioning this on the product and their website .

I was looking at Pirelli Speed Demon for the front and Michelin Sirac for the rear ,
I have seen in some threads that PSD wears out faster and lasts arnd 15K , do we have any alternative option for the NS ? , )
          ..
All of the so-called sticky tyres use a softer rubber which consequentially wears faster . So what do you want ?

They keep the odometer cable on all bikes disconnected until delivery , it is the normal practice here with all dealerships - to avoid running up the odo before delivery . Check for tyre wear etc or other defects . Else what is the problem with a bike that's been used for TD ? On the contrary , such vehicles are less likely to have a manufacturing defect .

As the fact remains, ups & downs come with almost every mechanical/technical stuff, but it's how well we acknowledge & proceed there after.
I understand the fact that the brakes are really amazing, felt it for myself too.
Tyres are of concern, which many have got changed almost immediately. The under belly issues are nominal & can be taken care of. Vibes & loosening of stuff has been a major concern throughout this bike as well as with my P135LS (current ). But the rest of the mentioned are technically understood & happy to know that practically experienced too.
Would appreciate the rest of the P200NS gang to also put their views once more on the thread.
            Thanku
Truly saying, I do not understand why such drastic improvement was noted. But, as oil gets older, Filters get clogged, chain gets slagged and loose many basic things change resulting a totally different experience of the bike than what it would be without the issues.
Tyres react better after riding 500~600kms. So unless and until you are trying to corner on wet tarmac you should not have any issues with the euro grip.

Vibes and Loosening can be taken care of. just ask the svc guys to add rubber/carboard material gasket like stuffs on every nut and bolt they can. That would result in an exceptional reduction of vibrations. Rubber gaskets would also be very helpful to stop things from loosening off not to mention, vibes would be reduced next to nil.

I got a few of the bolts and nuts fitted with the rubber gaskets very recently (got them from the nearby hardware shop for 10 bucks!) And beleive me, my NS has only 10% of the vibes that a stock NS has. For the loosening thing, I have yet to ride the few thousand kms to be technically sure of the fact that it will resist loosening of the bolts. I would let you know after I have done 1-2k kms more.

            • Completed 7000km as on 5/11/12. 2 months old now.

Recently faced some issues with clutch cable getting stuck because of poor lubrication, had it fixed.

The disc has bent again. Will be giving it to the service centre today to get it fixed.

              • I have a strange oil level problem and a bit scared to ride my NS because of it
now i read somewhere u should check oil level at cold engine...

the pics are taken on a level surface on centre stand

when i saw the oil level before starting my bike first time for the day at 7:30 in the morning the oil level was as as shown in the second pic(the one with lower oil level)

after riding for 4-5km the oil level was as shown in the first picture(the one with higher oil level)

after that i rode 2.5 km and checked oil level again and this time it was the same as the second picture(it was low)

again after that i rode for some 2 km or so and the oil level was still the same....low as in second picture

is there some issue? is this a matter of concern?

should i buy a bottle of dtsi oil and top up?

or should i drain the whole oil myself and fill new oil?

going to ASC will be bit difficult for me as my exams are coming and i dont have much time...for my first service i will have to give my bike with hardly 150-175 km on the odo..

PS i usually get on and off my bike from the left side but to check the oil level i got of on the right side and accidently my legs calf touched the gearbox/clutchcover(whatever its called) and it still burns...does it get that hot???

                  1. How do u put this beast at performance in the city & highway??
                  2. What mileage are you all able to pull outta it ( both city, highway & also frequent touring ( like in the weekends with a busy or moderate city riding )
                  3. I know this might not be appropriate but hope you all understand the reason behind this particular query- Comparing to the KTM & CBR ( irrespective of the price here ) if any of you have experienced on all of them, what ups & downs can u list with experience shared or gathered??

                  Appreciated everyone..
I wasn't so impressed with the KTM test Mule but once i got a chance to ride the KTM which my friend bought it was a diff experience. KTM seems more urgent in its ways, seems to want to redline all the time(had a short ride in Bangalore 7pm Trafffic). I have only test ridden the Pulsar about 3 times, Pulsar seems to do everything the duke does( atleast in the 60-70kms/hr) but surprising it is alot more comfortable. Potholes are not back breaking. Out of the 3 test rides.. the 2nd bike had the vibes felt on the footpegs(rider), the other 2 were fine. I have tried a friends CBR 250 which seems have more of a rush in low revs( cant say much more as the ride was very short). In terms of upgrading from a Original CBZ (2000 model) the pulsar was prefect in that respect, the bike can be ridden commuter style and when ur in the mood for some fun it can be rushed. KTM and pulsar shouldn't have huge mileage difference. KTM rider stance is quiet fun because the top of the body is like a moto cross rider, but ur legs are pushed back.

The Following things must be done to check the correct oil level..
                    1)The engine must be cold.
                    2) the bike should be Straight. So a center stand is necessary; or else ask someone to hold the bike straight. Even if the bike is tilted to any one side by a small degree, it makes a big difference on the oil level.
                    3) Wait for about a minute or so, for the oil to be stable at the marking position.

If after doing all these, if you see that the oil is below minimum level, then you must TOP-UP, asap

                    • the bike was on center stand...i ddint knw i waited for a minute or not but i guess i took pretty much time gazing at the oil level window and scratching my head why this problem and then used my micromax phone(terrible slow camera) so i guess a minute would have easily passed...

when i cheked for the first time of the day..the engine was cold and infact the bike was sitting there idle on center stand for 3 days and no riding

however i checked the bike after removing it off the center stand and positioning it properly for me to check...(where i park the oil level window is facing against the wall so i cant see it)

the bike was on centre stand each time i measured oil level

as i mentioned i checked at cold and it was below the level

at hot it was in the middle...(i saw some small bubbles to inside i guess those are visible in the first pic but a little blurred)

and again after a few kilometers at hot it was again low

as i put the bike on stand and clicked the pic the oil should have been stable by that time...once i waited for 5 mins chatting with a frnd and after he left i checked and it was low...

should i top up with dtsi oil itself of 20W50 grade or some other oil top up?
                      if so how much quantity?
and how to top up? just remove that knob and pour in oil?

or replace oil completely? if so by which oil?
well i have never tried to drain and change oil of any bike or scooter yet....

Top Up with 200ml of oil ASAP. Oil level reading taken after 15minutes rest on center stand is the ideal way to check.
If your present oil had not run more than 1,500 kms then do a top up, if it is more than 1,500 Kms drain the old oil and change .

Initially when the bike was new I was Getting FE of around 35 kmpl..which was mix of highway and City..
there after in my regular commute from home to office...(6 kms only...but takes 25 mins. Jogeshwari-Andheri) i was getting 22.5 kmpl..which went for sometime till I decided to get it checked...went to SVC. the guy did some AFR setting and..last FE i got was 30 kmpl..though i feel that bike wants to be revved above 4k rpm..whereas in my route I hardly get to go above 5 k...and that turbo lag kinda feeling is always there...So I am not ripping...and not crossing the 5k rpm..also not exceeding 60kmph.....got the AFR tuned to leaner than before...still getting 30kmpl....Is it something to worry about..as fellow NSians are getting above 35 kmpl with ripping in city rides...and above 40kmpl on highways...would my FE increase with time...i.e. after reaching some 4000 kms...as my run is short..(have completed only 1250 kms..got my bike in July)...I dont know when will I reach 4000 kms...

should i top up with the 20W50 dtsi oil or any oil of same grade is fine?

and as you had suggested i went to ASC for that choke issue and idle rpm being high than normal

the mechanic tuned the bike and said give a little throttle while starting on choke for the bike to start and get the choke engaged and it did work
the idle was about a little less than 1.45K rpm that time

today when i rode the hot idle is again 1.6K(i did not touch any screws) and earlier the bike used to start on pressing the thumb starter for a 1-1.25 seconds but now it dusnt start with the push on thumb starter...i have to give a little throttle too to start....the engine jumps to 2k rpm and idles then...

has the mechanic leaned out the AFR?
