It may not make the most refined and smoothest of machines, but you'll have enjoy the way these machines can stretch for you. So go ahead and enjoy the ride, all these issues can be fixed by the SC guys. Just a advice.

now i read somewhere u should check oil level at cold engine...

the pics are taken on a level surface on centre stand

when i saw the oil level before starting my bike first time for the day at 7:30 in the morning the oil level was as as shown in the second pic(the one with lower oil level)

after riding for 4-5km the oil level was as shown in the first picture(the one with higher oil level)

after that i rode 2.5 km and checked oil level again and this time it was the same as the second picture(it was low)

again after that i rode for some 2 km or so and the oil level was still the same....low as in second picture

is there some issue? is this a matter of concern?

should i buy a bottle of dtsi oil and top up?

or should i drain the whole oil myself and fill new oil?

going to ASC will be bit difficult for me as my exams are coming and i dont have much time...for my first service i will have to give my bike with hardly 150-175 km on the odo..

PS i usually get on and off my bike from the left side but to check the oil level i got of on the right side and accidently my legs calf touched the gearbox/clutchcover(whatever its called) and it still burns...does it get that hot???

I think Thumpmeister is agreed to.. U'd really enjoy the ride more than worrying about it. If u haven't done a 2-3k on that oil already, then there is nothing for u to worry about. The oil circulates in the engine ( obvio ) as u ride it on. Kept idle for sometime, the oil level reaches a Standard point where it shows the actual quantity/level.
That's why it's suggested to check the oil level before u start off, after it has been idle for a while, not in between the riding period.

    • Hey guys is it alright to clean the o-ring chain with a few ml of unused engine oil? And while lubing the chain, I found that a part of the spray got onto the rear disc. I found a slight decrease in braking efficiency. How do I rectify it?
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

I Recommend Chain lube for lubing. Opt for motul. IMO, engine oil for lubing is not good. Correct me if am wrong.

        • Do you mean cleaning or lubing ? Engine oil will not clean the chain, it can be used to lube, but usually we use used engine oil to lubricate chains.

Yes, the braking efficiency can be regained, just ride around for a few kms with the brake lightly pressed, the oil shall vaporize, a better safer option is to remove the pads and scrub them together and there, problem solved.

P.S:Keep this in mind, while lubing the chain , always spray it from behind the rear sprocket, doing that ensures the spray reached into the chain links and also, it wont be falling onto the disks or the rim. Do be careful of the hand, don't let it be awfully close near the sprockets.

          Cheers

Buddy Vibes will be there at the beginning. Allow your bike to settle in. My ODO stands at 3K. The vibes that I'm talking about ain't that bad but is little tingling (at the handle bars at 6-6.5k Rpm. Nothing above and below that). Rest of the things are pretty good with my Phoenix

            • Time for us to meet up man..!!

And about lubing, no problems in using used engine oil , apart from the fact that it's a messy affair, after lubing and when you start riding, the oil might splash on the rims and may look dirty, and not to mention it'll be a lot tougher to clean it the next time you want to clean it.

But it's a very cheap and effective method for lubing.

Now what to do.... Mailed bajaj and wanted to talk to higher auathority from pune but they are just avoiding it and forwarding my mail to the svc.... :@

Well.. To be technically precise, acc/to the ratios & set-up, the 1st gear is not for taking the bike to drag unlike the Duke. So just try to carry it to the 2nd gear asap then Rip on. The 2nd & 3rd gear ratios & set-up has good state for ripping it away.. It's pretty similar in most of the Indian Manufactured Bikes. Std stuff u can call it.
& btw, no point trying to mail em, they never respond unless it's something serious enough to sue them.. :P

                  • Check the number of counter weights in each wheel of your NS!

Guys, just found a solution to a problem that was said by many NSians..I along with Jayakrishnan found the reason causing the swaying of the bike to left to right side when the handle is left. This is caused due to the counter weight on the wheels, there only should be one counter weight per wheel that on the left side only...if you have two counter weight on either side or none, then this is what is causing the unstability of the bike & can be very dangerous at conering & at high speeds..This is a manufacturing defect by Bajaj, which should be solved AFAP by going to the SVC & removing or fitting counter weights if there r none...as I said before there only should be one counter balancer per wheel that too on the left side.So do this immediately at the SVC,also send a complaint to Bajaj for this manufacturing defect.I hope this will help those with problems saying the bike is unstable & sways towards left...

I don't believe that's the issue...cuz mine has one counter weight per wheel still my bike sways to the left with hands off the handlebars...no instability issue though...

My bike has one counter weight per wheel on the left side & i have not faced any swaying to left issue even with no hands on handlebars...so if u r saying u still have this problem, then it might be due to the way u ride or due to someother problem!

                            • Got my Black Beauty two days back...

Warning: Brace yourself for a long post!!!

Hi all, just took delivery two days back. It was an almost seamless experience at Kalyani Bajaj, Bangalore. They promised a delivery at 1700 and I got the bike at 1800 My previous bike was a Pulsar 150cc (2004 model) and the NS is leaps and bounds better than the 150cc. One thing I am still not able to believe is that the NS is a Bajaj bike...

I have clocked 200kms in the last two days and I am trying to follow the run-in as meticulously as possible (I am straining myself to keep the bike under 50km/hr) and I had a few questions to the experienced here:

                              1. Though I am trying to follow the run-in, I have at times (4 times) crossed 50km/hr speed. On two occasions, I reached 60 on the odo. Do you guys think this would have caused any irreversible damage to the engine?
                              2. The run-in period before first service mentions maximum speed as 45km/h. How much can this be extended to? The reason I am asking is because the mechanic who delivered the bike to me told me to keep the speed below 70km/hr. No further information regarding run-in was provided.
                              3. Though the bike is butter smooth, there is a tappet noise from the engine. Should I get it rectified immediately or should I wait for the first service?
                              4. Regarding the tyres, I have not had a single issue with them yet! On my Pulsar 150 I had MRF zapper so I was planning to get something better than the Eurogrip (which is like the movie Eurotrip as in provides some fun but not the complete package). Will changing the tyres cost me the warranty of the bike?
                              5. The horns are pathetic, wait, its worse than pathetic. I am coming from a Pulsar 150 and hope you can understand my frustration on this. What do you guys think about changing the horn? What is the negative impact on the bike and also will this void the warranty?
                              6. During run-in, what is the maximum rpm I can reach for each gear.
                              7. Since there is no kick start, what happens when the self just goes kaput? Should we push and start like cars?
                              8. The mono shocks on the bike is kind of stiff. Will this change as I continue riding?

No harm done...it won't harm the engine/bike at all.

                                2. The run-in period before first service mentions maximum speed as 45km/h. How much can this be extended to? Its better to follow the runnin-in in terms of RPMs and not kmph. So limit your bike to 4-4.5k RPM on all gears. This is should do well. As someone said earlier (I guess @Payeng Sir) here that for ex., you cannot take your bike to 70kmph in the first gear so that doesn't mean you can keep ripping it till 10k RPM.

                                3. Though the bike is butter smooth, there is a tappet noise from the engine. Should I get it rectified immediately or should I wait for the first service?

Take it to the svc now. (Note: Pulsars have a hereditary of the tappet noise)

                                4. Regarding the tyres, I have not had a single issue with them yet! Will changing the tyres cost me the warranty of the bike?

The warranty will not be void because the warranty for tyres is provided by the tyre manufacturer, in this case TVS.

                                5. The horns are pathetic, wait, its worse than pathetic. I am coming from a Pulsar 150 and hope you can understand my frustration on this. What do you guys think about changing the horn? What is the negative impact on the bike and also will this void the warranty?

The horn is fine for some, and not good for others. Changing/ adding another horn will void the electrical warranty. It will put more load on the battery but the battery is quite powerful.

                                6. During run-in, what is the maximum rpm I can reach for each gear.

                                4-4.5k

                                7. Since there is no kick start, what happens when the self just goes kaput? Should we push and start like cars?

You should not have any problem with the battery since measures have been taken by BAL to extend battery life and reduce load on it. But if something unusual happens and the battery goes kaput, then zor laga ke is the only way out. Odds of this happening 100:1 (Wild estimate )

                                8. The mono shocks on the bike is kind of stiff. Will this change as I continue riding?

By default the setting is set to the 2nd softest. It won't change, so if you want you can reduce it to the softest one, but it will effect the riding stability.
