Regarding rattling at 3000 rpm, the powerband of this bike lies above that engine speed so shift optimally between 4 and 5k rpm when you are in the mood for fuel efficiency. Riding very slow (i.e at very low revs) is pretty uncomfortable on my bike too. Don't know if you've gotten the rubber grommets installed or not so I can't comment on the vibes.
hey where do you find these rubber grommets in bangalore?? every service station i called told me that its not available yet..

    • I bought this bike on Saturday.... completed about 150km on the odo. This bike is awesome, and I love going to college nowadays only because of the bike

I have read extensively on the pulsar 200 ns on various forums, and had prepared myself for the shock of a faulty part(because many ownership reviews were filled with regrets due to shoddy manufacturing quality). Surprisingly, my bike is fantastic with absolutely no malfunctions of any kind. Except the side-stand warning light doesn't work, but I think that's a very minor issue. I consider myself very lucky.

I drive the bike at under 5000 rpm, but regularly hit 70kmph in the 6th gear on open roads(is this ok?)
I am scared of 'lugging' the engine, so I constantly come down to lower gears at slow speeds(is this constant shifting ok? and what is lugging actually?)
The seats are very comfortable, but my palms hurt a lot.
The handling is awesome... I was a HH Passion driver with absolutely no experience in bending around corners. But with the NS, I can confidently take on a tight corner at 60kmph.
The disk breaks+tires haven't locked up when I braked till now, but this is mostly because Bangalore is dry these days.

BTW I have named my pulsar - 'the Panther'

PS: Can somebody give me a link to a guide or something about how to maintain the bike? I am new to this class of bikes, and I have no idea how to maintain them. And I do not want to spoil my NS due to bad maintenance. BTW, how do I maintain the chain?

Falling at 80kmph u say??? Ask @Sayank10...the guy was battered like a fly...ok a bit exaggerated bt the injuries were serious.
But as the guy he is...though asked to take rest, he's already planning his next venture!

        • Had a minor fall under braking over gravel .. had to apply brakes cause a pothole was in front with gravel all around. Just insane.. does every bike completely lose it's grip over gravel ? I can't understand this.. man I tried so hard to prevent from falling but bike lost it's grip instantly & slid. I never thought I'd say this.. these Tires really let me down this time. The knee guard took the entire hit & is bent, might replace it tmr.
There is also little bit of gravel spread on the road that's right in front of my house, every time I come home & apply brakes even at low speeds.. the bike acts like it's gonna slide & scares the crap out of me.. SCARY!!!

Clean it & lube it often, like every 500-750kms. You can get a Chain cleaner spray for jusrt Rs 160 from Bajaj SVC only. can use kerosine or diesel as well. Then lube the Chain.. like a Bajaj OKS chain lube will cost you around 160 something while a Motul chain lube will cost u over Rs 400. Btw, poor maintenance of chain may cause tail & pillion seat vibrations.

The crash guard is meant for the same IMO. It's not a leg guard but more like an engine, chassis guard, it's supposed to take the initial shock due to impact and fold in.
the crash guard is good enough to endure the impact of a 80 kmph fall i had.

lube it with tvs tru-spray. 300 rs for 500 ml.mine lasted a whopping 29 times spray.

              • Thanks for the suggestions guys!

                I have 2 unanswered questions -
I drive the bike at under 5000 rpm, but regularly hit 70kmph in the 6th gear on open roads(is this ok?)
I am scared of 'lugging' the engine, so I constantly come down to lower gears at slow speeds(is this constant shifting ok? and what is lugging actually?)

Also, I lost trust in the tires this night. I was driving very slowly(around 25kmph) and there was some gravel on the road just before an intersection, so naturally I gently applied the brakes to slow down. And voila! The infamous stock tires show their true colors

constant shifting is actually good for engine run-in.
no harm in 70 kmph at 6 th gear too.
well stock tyres give up at hard-core cornering[happened with me at a turn-in at 80 kmph, had a bad mishap].
if you don't feel confident on stock tyres, swap them with better rubber.

I am using Motul oil since 400km on ODO and has changed it trice already.
why have you already changed your oil three times?
I rode it above 100 only twice or trice. I lubricate the chain with OKS spray regularly. I wash the bike completely once in a while. You cannot pamper your bike any more than this. Still My bike has a lot of issues. Bike rattles even at 3000 rpm. Handlebar and foot pegs vibrate so much, even when I am just rolling the bike down a slop with engine shut off. Servicing the bike only makes issues worst. I have experience of 1st and 2nd servicing.
Firstly one big advice Never run the bike on slope like that. I have read about so many mishaps happening to riders with that habit. Secondly, are you facing any serious heating issue? Also what about cold start?

Well Bajaj should keep this thing in mind then that bikes are not to be pampered all the time. It has to be robust enough so as to live upto the expectations that it kindles in the buyers' minds. But surely, one cannot get what NS gives in Rs.100000 with any other bike. Its the high expectations the bike sets thats an issue. If they are not getting satisfied then its unsatisfactory. Satisfaction is subjective thing.

                    +1

I guess, "NS is VFM" sums it up all. The design is top-notch. But the manufacturing is below-par for 200NS. I think this is the main issue. To keep the costs low Bajaj has compromised on a lot of things e.g. tires (I had so many tire slipping incidents that now I have lost confidence for using rear break. I am more confident on my passion..LOL). One can give many examples. The black color on the metal parts near the console (the backbone of the handle) comes off very easily. I can scratch it off with my nails (and mind you I have a habit of nail biting so my nails are not even sharp). The sticker job on front portion near suspensions is one more example. The rubber caps where the wires go inside the engine block are deteriorating. One fall at 30kmph and the crash guard it torn apart. The vibration issue, i think, is due to the higher tolerances of parts. (Any production/mechanical engineer would know that higher tolerances while manufacturing means low production costs). I dont think any big issue with design other than poor fitting of sub-assemblies like transmission, suspension etc. If i put my NS on center stand and spin the rear tire, even that sets off vibrations in the whole bike. This has nothing to do with engine. In fact engine is the best part of NS and least problematic.
                    +100
I also don't like the tyres to be honest but sort off adjusted to them now. About rest things, yet to face.

                    .

Bro any svc's in Mysore have them in stock? I've checked in about 4 svc's and all I get is the question "Rubber wat?" from them .

I do agree that Eurogrip Tyre's are mediocre at best but once it's run in, it ain't that bad. mine is at 4.5k and the rear Tyre might have skidded twice or thrice. I guess most of the Tyre's will skid on gravel. But the feeling you get when you are gunning that engine at 7k rpm and above is remarkable. I always have a beaming smile on my face when I shift gears above 7k rpm. Momentarily at least, I feel as if i'm ridding a super bike listening to the exhaust note the engine makes .

By budget constraints Yes NS200 is an upgrade VFM.

BTW in what terms are you looking for an upgrade ?

In my definition of *significant* upgrade, the most important factor is that the BHP should increase to atleast in the vicinity of 2x of your current bike. Anything less than that will not feel like a *significant* upgrade. For upgrading from RTR180, if I were you, I wouldn't pick anything less than 32-35 BHP.

Suggestion: Save up for the 3xx cc Pulsar / Duke OR 473cc Hondas. Keep the bike till then. Upgrade to 200NS / Duke 200 only if it is absolutely essential.

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
