  • Ownership review post 5000+ Kms.

    Hi People,

Here's my two bits after nearly 5 Months of ownership and about 5300 kms.

Am I the kazillionth person to say that I am totally in love with the Bumblebee? Its been a strange relationship and one that has become sweeter as the days have passed.
You can ask anyone about its looks and they'll go gaga over it...so did I, but after purchasing the bike I wasnt too happy with the vibes and a few niggles that came along the way.

I dont know if the vibes have subsided or I've become immune to em. Its like being in a relationship. You start to understand and accept the flaws of your partner and often look at the sunny side of things. So am I disappointed with the bike? ...its a RESOUNDING NO!! Its a cracker of a machine and if any one reading this wants to go for it...well.....eyes closed...just do it!

Here are a few good and not so good things about this enigmatic machine....

    Good:
    1. Handling: I recently rode to Pune and the way this beast behaved on the highway was as if the bike was born on the highway.....Suspension does not bottom out whatsoever. The bike remains composed. Brakes are awesome. Tyres...well on dry tarmac...no complaints!!
    2. Engine: Jekyll and Hide come to my mind when I think of it...quiet as a cat till 75k and once the throttle is twisted up north, out comes the roar of the tiger. My cruising speed was between 75 and 80 (coz of my 54yr old mom being the pillion ) but the manner in which it stuck to that speed and the tarmac was just awesome. Overtaking at speeds in excess of 90k felt like a breeze. It just doesnt feel out of breath as it runs out of rev range. Never felt the same inclination from my P150 v4.
    3. Electronics: All bulbs working fine. Headlight throw is decent. Starter never fails. Cooling fan works when needed and makes a sound as if the bike is air-conditioned
    4. Comfort: Though the padding on the seats is less, the riding position (at least for the rider) is perfect. (I'm 5"8) Havent encountered any fatigue on arms, elbows, shoulders, back, etc.

    Errr...not so good:
    1. Handling: Having taut (read sporty) suspension is a boon but can also be a bane and quite a hit on your family jewels!! Pothole paraders beware!!
    2. Electronic: Horn is not fit for the highway. Its like the Great Khali having the voice of Sharmila Tagore The fuel indicator is possessed....Turn indicator switch can be a pain esp for ones not blessed with long fingers.
    3. Mileage: Aah...the question...kitna deti hai?? Apparently my bike is a lil hungry...it returns about 35-37kmph (even with sane riding - city)
    4. Niggles: Irritating noises from the left side of the handlebar and left fork side, both still not sorted even after 2 services (I am now in ignore mode). Choke lever is dysfunctional and as usual Bajaj guys dont have the stock!! AND THE MOST IRRITATNG NIGGLE: THE BAJAJ SERVICE CENTRE....either you dont get appointments or they are short staffed!! Either ways..the bike suffers.

Final verdict: If you havent bought it yet and are yet reading this post....what are you? a window shopper?
Thats it from me....ride safe...wear protection in all walks of life
    Peace Out!

Awesome work Mayank!! (and the guy who did it).
Please share the contact details of the person who does the CF stickering ( I'm a Mumbaikar too). How much did it cost and how much time did it take??

About crazy dogs who chase bikers... here is what you need to do. Never brake, Never swerve & Never even look at the dogs who start chasing you under hard acceleration. Why ? because believe me the dog isn't trying to bite you or achieve anything but display a "dominant behavior"... like who is the boss on this street. Dogs have superior reflexes so don't worry about them next time & just pass through with speed maintained. Because your bike isn't gonna hit the dog's head no matter how close he gets to you (even if you attempted to intentionally hit the chasing dog with your bike, you'll fail & crash your bike instead lol).. even if he's barking near your foot & keeping up with the speed of your bike, He is not bite your foot.
It's very common cause when dominant dogs hear loud exhaust the feel the urge to chase it. & I say this as I have great knowledge of Dogs. I get my street Dogs to chase every day & I see them chasing others as well. Not crazy, but normal dogs lol.
your are absolutely right about dogs bro. but if it comes in front of you then there is no way u can escape. also i will become nervous when a dog comes near my bike while riding because i almost hit a dog a fell down in my previous bike before NS. so that memory shivers me out and about ABS i think i need it in my bike defiantly. My bro owns RTR 180 ABS and the braking system is awesome.

By any chance did you mean tune to lean? Because I don't see why a lean mixture would increase rpm like that. Can you explain please?
Also I'm having problems running the engine in the morning. It stops when I let go of the throttle. This is solved when it warms up though.
I'm sure these problems are connected.

Well technically I don't have an answer for your first question but tuning to rich settings made the same problem on my bike go away. the second problem is 'cold start", which happens if the fuel going in is less than required(due to Lean settings). You are right on the connection part Just trust me & make it a little rich.
Being best is not about beating everyone. It's about how much you learn from others and make yourself even better

it depends on the situation... if you see empty road ahead, then downshift and run and if you are in a congested area, just slow down and dont look at the dog and lastly if you have girl as pillion then simply take a u-turn else both will start barking resulting in some nasty stuffs...lol...

But the inscriptions on the left side of the rear tyre are gone due to chain lubrication by svc...so I'm thinking about doing those again but would add some finely crushed glass ( i.e glass dust ) or colourless sparkle (not sure if something like this is even available in the market) in it to give it a reflective property...I'll try to do it tomorrow if possible...
why work extra extra? reflective paints are easily available which glow in thew dark
