I had some repairs done on the NS some time back and since the time I got the bike back, I'm having some issues -

    1) There's a slight lag in throttle response (a fraction of a second, but it's noticeable). This happens specially when I crack open the throttle.

    2) Cold starts have become terrible. 4-5 cranks or may be more. Last year during the winters this was certainly not the case.

    3) The engine would just shut off abruptly during the first few km of cranking it for the first time after a long halt (say when I crank the engine for the first time in the Day or after office). There have been many occasions when the engine has shut off even after 3-4 km of travel. I would suppose that engine has got to it's optimum temp by this time, and should not shut off like this but it still does. A couple of times it has happened that I was taking a turn and the engine shut off (was quite an uncomfortable situation)

    4) After ride, I'm generally smelling smoke from around the exhaust. I've revved the bike at idle and not much visible smoke is coming out till say 7k rpms. Post that I can see mild smoke (black smoke)

I'm guessing that this is an engine tuning issue, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would be taking the bike to service soon, but wanted an educated opinion before I take the bike for service.
Get the tuning work done and i think your idle rpm is set very low that is the reason it shuts off when you twist the throttle all of a sudden. If this is not Idle RPM problem,i think it must be related to thermal sensors which detect the engine temp. and opens the coolant valve to flow into the cylinder (Dont know what this valve is called in technical terms )

And I will be changing the rear tyre to Duke's rear tyre .
As it is a soft compound Tyre so will it have more punctures ?

have see u r post at 20:09pm ....first check the following
        1.collent level.
        2.rear disk oil
        3.front disk oil
        4.any scrath on the fairing
5.all the lights including back no.plate light.
        6.front and rear mud guard

8.install main stand as soon as possible because it takes lot of time it fit it after u take u r bike...
9.disk break noise especially in the back disk get it solved on the same day (this is the main problem all the guys faced)i think that it is manufacturing defect.
10.engine oil level is most important
11.check for any leakage... that's it..

          Any solutions? 7500kms on ODO.
I heard that idling a lot causes it to brown faster.

Thus happens due to heat + carbon monoxide effect on pipe ,it happens when bike is led to idle a lot.,no solutions, can paint, replace ,just check are there any leaks ,if not then it's no worry thing

I think it cannot be cleaned completely but I was searching a solution for the very same thing some time back. A product by name, engine degreaser is the solution it seems. Still couldn't get the exact information.

                Thanks Anurag for your reply.

The idle is at 1.5k rpms, which I guess is the standard for idling. Thanks for mentioning the thermal sensors, would get those checked.

                Thanks Krishna for your response.

the FE I'm getting is between 35-40 kmpl. The bike does not have any issues with the pull and keep up the speeds. Early morning, first crank, it's a tiny bit sluggish, which is understandable. Once the engine is at it's optimum temperature, the bike pulls in the classic NS signature style. The only issue, it might still decide to shut off at a very uncomfortable situation.

I'm also guessing it's tuning and might be carb too.. so let's see what the service guys say. I'll definitely keep in mind the points posted here.

Thanks for your suggestions guys... much appreciated.

This is just out of my head. Put do check the condition of the spark plugs and plug cables. Check if there is some mis connections or shorts.

The mileage you specified seems to be the optimum , so it isn't too lean either i assume.

Just got the bike & the problem has gone  hopefully it won't back at least for another 10k.
Also, it was problem of diaphragm just what many riders told. Thanks to Aditya, Rahul sir, annydhanya & red redemption for all their help.

                        Damage assessment .
With a heavy stone upon my heart ,after 1 week of the incident that ruined my love ,I opened the cover for the first time to see what has been done ..
                        My deadliest issue ,
As you can see ,there is a big scratch on rright hand side of headlight .which is killing me the most ,so guys advise me ,i think that part is replaceable, should I go for tatto or tell me how to remove that scratch ( I cannot ride my bike with that scratch)
Also handle seems to be acting funny, as it seems ,the right hand silver colour bar is bent ,is it repairable. ..?
                        Will go svc tomorrow,

That headlight part can be changed. I think it costs 150-300. When I had a fall for first time, almost same things were damaged.
Leg guard costs Rs 90 each, handle I think Rs 450-600 for one side. In my case, handle was completely broken so had to get it changed obviously.
For headlight part, I didn't go for replacement as the black sticker did the job. Paid 100rs but that included front plate stickers also.

Roads were sloshed, you can see the rain and dirt marks on the bike and the potholes were huge. DAMNED potholes.
                            handlebar end weight ~80
side mask front assembly ~ 200

                            indicator ~170

Noticed a thing ,the R.H.S HANDLE bar equipment is touching the pulsar logo and has broken the UL word , the silver colour bar is bent,is it repairable. ..? Regarding that scratch on side headlight mask ( big one) that costs only 200 bucks ...? If so ,then I will replace it as stickers will cost minimum 150 bucks here ,
Strange thing ,before accident ,my bike used to go a very little to left hand side( noticeable bit not major) ,now it goes straight as stick ,doesn't lean to any side even 0.015% ,hehehe a + point of wreckage ,anyways will update tomorrow
I was thinking to film the entire service procedure of NS.

Update on rear disc noise. Today i went to pratap bajaj chd and they tried to address the problem. Mechanic removed the caliper and rubbed the contacts with a sand paper, he rubbed the disc with sand paper too. Now the noise is completely gone but rear brake is also gone, i mean even the engine braking is stronger than the rear brake. I asked them to check but they said " its all right ". What could have gone wrong ???? Should i replace the brake fluid ???
                                I am loving my NS
