  • Returned from hogenakkal falls today, Total cloaked 300 kms onwards and return. Took denkanikottai route which was the shortest route. Had a terrible crash before even reaching the falls and had to abandon the trip

I was fully geaded with gloves, shoes, jacket and knee gaurd. My freind was pillion and had no gears at all and was wearing a sandal. Before leaving i insisted him to wear a shoes atleast but he just ignored and we left bangalore. As we were closing hogenakkal with only 1 KM distance from the falls, bad luck showered on us so badly The route has ghat sections, twisties, forest roads and gravel road throughout.....while riding through a right curve, i couldn't keep the bike on the road, i couldn't stop it from going leftwards, the speed was 50kmph, the moment the bike was on the footpath i lost balance and the bike skid crazily and just dragged us on tarmac about 15 meters further. The footpath was soft mud and was holding the tyre i guess is the reason for the skid. My freind badly injured his feet, his sandals torn off, Shoes would have definitely protected his feet.

My gloves torn off, heavy bruises on the knee gaurd, woodland shoes front sole peeled away, jacket torn on the back. No injuries to me, I could imagine my fate when i looked at my riding gears

My bikes front fairing has been damaged, with deep scratches, handle bar is kind of out of shape, right crash gaurd bent towards the engine, rear brake is higher than the right foot rest.

Can you guyz tell me the approx cost if i have replace the parts. I don't know the exact names used for these , so i have attached the pictures to explain the damage.

    1) Headlight cowl

    2) Front fairing

    3) Mudguard fairing

    • Good that youre unhurt. hows your friend doing?

This is the 3rd crash reported here within a week.

Which jacket, gloves and knee guard were you using...if you dont mind me asking.

The crash guard costs around 350 bucks.
      handlebar costs around 250 bucks.
The brake pedal costs around 250 bucks. Make sure its fixture on the frame isnt bent also. Similar thing had happened on mine.

Skidding on gravel or sand road is common among all the bikes. It is a relief that both of you escaped without severe injuries.
Try to claim insurance for the damaged parts. They will give 50% of the price of the plastic and fibre parts.

He is fine now. The Jacket i bought at Gopalan mall for 2k Rs. The one which people usually wear during winter in our city. Its just a simple jacket for rain and winter, i am using it for a year now..For a little more price you can actually get a riding jacket with armor for safety.

Gloves is Pro-Biker , you can get for 350-450 Rs in JC road anywhere. Quality just ok for that price. The palm side is completely torn and i got few minor bruises. I am planning for a better gloves which has bit of cushion by paying little extra..

Knee guard is AXO which you can get for 750 Rs in JC road. Quality is just okay.

          • ^^^ Ah, ok. I thought you had proper gear and was wondering how it got as badly damaged as you described.

I'd say get the best one you can afford rather than any more compromises. I hear there are a lot of duplicate knee guards on the market for AXO and FOX brands. I remember someone on the riding gears thread mentioning horror stories about how one of these knee guards broke, cut the rider's leg and caused more damage than if the rider had been without it. So be careful with your next purchase man.

            • you are lucky as this wasn't happen on the narrow steep dangerous hair pin bent where the road side is filled with tiny gravel stones, which would be more harm to man as well as the machine if fallen.

opt for insurance claim even if takes few extra days, we paid insurance then lets utilize it.

at close to hoganekal both the routes have almost similar typical forest hilly road surface terrain.

you can say that, but then almost all the posters in this thread have had similar experience. seems to happen a bit too often imo.

                  • ^^ Its expected that tarmac based tires lose traction on mud\sand. And as far as I can remember, in most user accounts, the user is going at a fairly high speed when he moves onto a patch of dirt\sand and that too, while making a turn. No wonder they skid. The tires can handle loose surfaces at lower speeds, but: more speed = skid; more speed+turn\lean = definite skid.

Best is to avoid mud\sand or get dual purpose tires. No point blaming the bike.

The stock tyres are not good at all. The worst experience is during wet track and on gravel roads.

Which tire is giving sufficient grip to not skid on gravel or sand?

Virtually all 2 wheels slip, even yamaha Fz with those fat tyres too skid on wet / gravel surface . we have to take care and respect our vehical limits and road conditions to prevents mishaps , its the driver who is responsible for mishaps.

                            • Hey guys , completed 6000 kms in less than 3 months from date of delivery , 3 services over .FE is 54 KPL, 400 Kms back changed to Motul 20W/40 mineral , difference was not that great but ok compared to stock oil , Elf motogold performed better.
My RPM is not stable at 1500 warm conditions , every time i have to set it, starting trouble when warm in traffic were i usually shut down engine even for 30 secs.
Before 4 th service which is still long way, would like to change my oil, has somebody tried New 'Wourth'a german brand it costs Rs 282 in mumbai, with GS.
Pulsar guys recomend it to be far better than Motul ,Mobil , castrol with imediate performance effect , though i would like to change with Motul / Elf or other tried tested brand, no semi/synthetic oil for now until 4 the service complete.

Is 100/80-18 zapper Q available? What he suggested may be 110/90-18.

Adjust the RPM to 1300-1500 when the engine is warm and slightly twist the throttle grip before each starting.
