@ amitine.
lol. nice experience.
i cant even imagine, bike fallen, new helmet under the bus,
rain, cops to top it off.
even i faced the problem at a signal once,
inclined slope, bike not turning on and cant push it up the slope at all, and traffic preventing me pushing it down the slope.
and the honking obviously.
guys i got an appointment with the SC today. to show the r thing
.
lets see what happens.
i think this jet cooling system is quite advanced.
i saw some pipe behind the engine(near the bottom part) going near the battery(that area atleast),
then coming out above the engine and going into the engine from the front thru some other contraption.Last edited by thefalcon; 09-19-2009, 10:42 AM.

hey guys.....
am from bangalore and am planning on purchasing a bike....
after rigorous and frantic scanning on all websites(ive been following this forum the most), i have shortlisted 2 bikes....
One of them is the gs150r...
it seems like a wonderful ride... when i test drove it at rajajinagar showroom, it seem to be the smoothest thing on two wheels... have been riding my bro's fiero till now...
the other is the apache rtr fi (160)
one of my friend's has it.... i love the stance on the bike(feels like you are racing) and its pick up.
one thing i hate about it... it vibrates a hell lot after 60kmph.... and thats just an understatement...
now i love both the bikes, am having a tough time choosing one...
about the gs, the tank rusting, headlights and brakes are bothering me... the varied mileage problem reported in the posts here also bothers me...
i want a bike with a good mileage, and good pick up....
so guys... it'd be helpful if you could shed some light and help me...
and one ore thing... can the vibrations on the apache be decreased????
btw... i amost always ride in the city... but have given some sincere thought about highway biking after getting a bike of my own
also... which suzuki showroom would you guys suggest... rajkumar road one is the closest to my place... is the service good there???? and the customer interaction???
ps: sorry about the length of the post

but if we can find a high resolution picture to start with then i guess its possible.
btw how do u upload images ?? do u click on the paper clip icon(attachments) and add ?? beause over there it says max size of only 19.5kb for a jpeg image

or do u convert to jpg filetype which has limit of 97 kb before adding ??

Bro...to upload the images below there is a tab for manage attachments...you can click that tab and a new pop up comes up and you can load the iamges....
Ya it says maximum 20kb image....but it is nothing like that....
you can load images which are of higher sizes.....
You remeber I had uploaded the rust images....those pics each were more than 200kb....
So no problem in uploading higher size files...no need to convert...
now the thing is we have to find a high resulotion pic....of that logo...

My plan is (as got from many sites eg: How To Maintain Your Motorcycle Yourself) to use diesel for soaking chain, use brush to remove dirt and hang it dry...then later soak in 90W gear oil for ~1 hour, and put it back on sprockets.
Only thing i got to figure out, how to remove chain first place
...but the way its mentioned in sites, it seems real easy

Hey Bro...surely...we can certainly co-author a book....
no doubt it will be a best seller...talk about the quest for a perfect life..
Hey man....the DIY cleaning of the chain can be done easliy....ya surely it is as easy as they say....I have done it many times....
the only thing you said is not much difficult....just open the chain cover and there is a clip to join th chain...generally red color....take it out....and out come your chain....and just go through the process of DIY....
The only thing as per me is....the fussy thing dealing with the Diesel and then the grease...melting and all tha thing....I get a earful from my parents whenever I do that.....
So if you do not bother the smelly and fussy things....just go for it.....it will be satisfying exp...

Hey buddy the rust is not an issue for many other GS guys...It was certain batches (for certain locations) that had those
severe problem...Headlight beam has a focus issue (present in also other bikes), easily rectified at SC
...Combined braking power is same as in any other recent bikes in its range. GS is an excellent bike that takes some time (1600 odo) to love it, but overall satisfaction and peace of mind is something inherently present in any Japanese brand.
But coming to your requirements, GS will easily satisfy (& in good measure) mileage, engine smoothness, overall build quality and reliability.
But only an RTR160 can give you that instant adrenaline pump at lower gears, the lovely exhaust note (I love it...best P200) and 'ready to race' feel.
GS will NOT deliver the above in LOWER GEARS...Its only at 3+ and at higher RPM, that the real fun begins.
Having driven both, GS will easily thrill you with exceptional pull and power at 4,5,6 gears. Apache will give u the same at any lower gears. But once past 50, only GS will give the thrill of confidence, as engine gets revy and also smooth.
The RTR weakness is excessive vibs. at 60-75km/h cruising speeds, comfort and reliability.
Hence, if all you want is drag with good mileage, RTR is the best.
If you want high speed thrill, comfortable cruise, mileage and macho factor, GS would do just fine.
To experience GS pwr, you HAVE to take it above 5K RPM at 3+
Thats exactly what I do nowadays at 1730 ODO. Its

.
Decide BASED on requirements buddy, not on features/brand/looks
Jus my 50 cents
P.S. RTR vibs cant be eliminated, its inherently present...but for the speed FEEL, these vibs give you the kicks
Only when cruising alone, these vibs irritate you.

You can do this all by yourself.Just remove the chain cover & clean the chain while it is still on.Spary the diesel & use a normal tootbrush while rotating the wheel so that the full chain gets the treatment. The spray the 90w gear oil while rotating the wheel so that again the complete chain is lubricated. Its sound teidous but trust me it is quite simple,I do it on bike every 500-700kms run.Originally posted by Amitine View PostHey buddies, provided I dont have the guts to DIY chain clean

@imjoshee and Guru:
My DIY was a total buzz
. Why
HOW THE HECK DO YOU REMOVE THE CHAIN COVER
. Well what happened is I removed the big screw (at the rear end after suspension). Then I tried with all my might
to remove those tiny screws using spanner. It did not work out. My wrist is still aching, and me also scratched the cover in the process.
So just spray cleaned bike body and polished it
.
Took it to SC. Astonishment
: They did not remove the cover...just unplugged the black rubber plug on chain cover, put some oil on the visible chain, running in 1st gear. 2 mins, job done. They spend another 15 mins tightening chain which definitely is not a DIY for novice users.
Result
: Bike chain sound reduced, but smoothness is better
, pulls much better
( feel some 'tightness' in transmission) and feels vgood. When asked about spraying Motul stuff, SC guy laughed, told me its not needed for totally enclosed chain drives. Just a bit of lubricant and some tightening would easily do wonders.
SC Cost: 0 bucks
.
What I bought for DIY chain clean:
HP EP140 500ml gear oil (rs.77), rs.30 Diesel, Rs.20 automotive brown grease. : Total RS.127/-

Above vs. Motul 480/-
