Only if you forgot to keep the rpm varying with time. Else, someone at the showroom could have mishandled your bike during servicing or before delivery.Originally posted by donarun View PostDuring my run-in period uptill 800kms on the odo i rarely crossed 4.5k rpm. after 800 i started stretching a bit and maintained the engine btw 4 - 5.5k rpm ... is engine glazing possible with this run-in history ?Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Please can you make it a lil more clear. Actually I have been using a Kinetic y2k [2000] and a P150[2007] both not mine actually. So i have not really faced the 1000kms run in. I dont want to make any mistakes when i get my GS.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostOnly if you forgot to keep the rpm varying with time.With great Power(and Torque) comes great responsibility.

ripping / malhandling of the bike by showroom/service guy is very common... they rip the bike before the run in....
on thursday night (1st oct) i saw two HH passion being ripped by the showroom/ service guys in chennai.. the bikes were fresh pieces, not even registered. the number plate had just PDI stickers..
the bikes were ripped in front of my eyes..
dont know how the manufacturer is managing this menace...
so even if you had run in smoothly, every possibility that it would have been ripped apart...

Before buying my GS, when I went to take cbz-x test drive, that showroom guy revved the fresh, brand new extreme (2 km on odo) till 8k-9k..
And when I got delivery of my GS, they revved it once till 6k rpm. I think its ok ripping once or twice in runnin period. But in a limit.

It is not as if they rev applying some logic. They rev just to warm up the engine quickly before a test drive!Originally posted by Shadowfax View PostBefore buying my GS, when I went to take cbz-x test drive, that showroom guy revved the fresh, brand new extreme (2 km on odo) till 8k-9k..

Revving up a cold engine is definitely bad.

i think HH is the worst though. they give brand new bikes meant for delivery as test ride vehicles !!(happened when i went to test ride cbz-x, felt sad for the future owner so i never went above 40
)
other companies the mechanics try ripping when they have to move the bike around for registration, PDI etc etc.(i noticed it with a few access 125's in my showroom and insisted no one else ride my bike, most of the showroom ppl were laughing but, wehave to be careful
).
Anyway the short duration ripping doesnt cause any damage to the bike(found out after getting the bike
). it helps in run in.. and since engine doesnt get overheated there's no glazing either.

My bike seems to be just like yours, unfortunately..Originally posted by donarun View PostDuring my run-in period uptill 800kms on the odo i rarely crossed 4.5k rpm. after 800 i started stretching a bit and maintained the engine btw 4 - 5.5k rpm ... is engine glazing possible with this run-in history ?
mileage before 1st servise - around 55-60
mileage(1st time i filled) after 1st service-40
mileage(2nd time i filled) after 1st service-36
i'm going to check again with 2litres petrol and if its less than 45, its back to the SC
When you mean constant varying the rpm, do you mean every second basis or is it ok to keep it constant for around 30seconds at a time(at a higher spped like 40 or 50).Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostOnly if you forgot to keep the rpm varying with time. anyway in bangalore traffic its impossible to keep rpm constant for long( unless its idle rpm at a signal
)

Its the same in almost all cities nowadays! 30sec is good enough! It is mainly a problem in highways where we tend to ride at a constant speed.

Which dealer?? When I went for a test ride, they had a test machine (cbz-x) for the purpose. I wanted to test ride the ZMR too, but they refused as they had no test machine. Anybody who experiences a dealer doing this kind of thing should register a complaint with the company.Originally posted by Shadowfax View PostBefore buying my GS, when I went to take cbz-x test drive, that showroom guy revved the fresh, brand new extreme (2 km on odo) till 8k-9k..

I have a doubt.
can dust settle inside the chain cover ??
2 days ago i rode thru heavy rain, muddy water etc etc.
next day there was about 2 cm of sand on top of the chain cover(just so u know how bad it was), and the rest of the bike too was very diry.
and now whenever i leave the accelerator and hold the clutch i get a feeling as if brakes are being applied mildly(speed reducing faster than usual).
i've not been applying the brakes(checked that properly,brake lights arent on),
so could there be lot of sand inside chain cover or any other place causing this to happen??Last edited by thefalcon; 10-03-2009, 09:15 PM.
