The local showroom guy told me tht part availability might be an issue so go for Unicorn. But unicorn is too old.Very confused..

No major spills. a few drops may of course have fallen, which is unavoidable durning filling pterol. I guess that should not be a reason for paint to come off..
did your bike have teflon coating ?
nope. not sure if it is worth the effort. As of now planning to buy a good carnauba wax polish.
the manual says spilled petrol can spoil the paint. that might be a reason.
anyway, its good you are getting a new tank.

I knew u were an xbhpean when u ware gazing inside the tank

Hey - I did notice you Mathews. Glad to meet you
I was more worried abt the tank issue then , and hence not really in the mood to socialise !!

Anyway, i feel ABT is getting worser in service since Mr. Kalyan left...
My bike was not attended till the next day, instead they told it will be ready on monday only..
They don't have any courtesy and respect for customer...
Only Mr. Ram Kumar is customer friendly out there.
Then i had to take back my bike at-last.
SMK guys r more responsible and caring...
Even my bike was delivered next day only - but difference was that they had told me that upfront, and i was not expecting it same day anyway because of my rust/paint complaint. Mr. Ramkumar was the guy who convinced/sold me on the bike - good guy. I dont know Mr.Kalyan..
      Hi All,

ABT suzuki returned my bike on friday after service. They confirmed that they have sought a replacement tank, and expect the same to come in the next 15days. So hopefully that is that on the rusting part. Also, I rechecked the bike after the wash, and was relieved to see no rust anywhere else. So, hope the new petrol tank solves my problem.

My views on the issue as follows.. As long as the company/dealer recognises that the paint/rust is a genuine issue and tries to resolve the same without customers like me having to waste time and effort in getting them to act on the same, I am satisfied. The SC didnot give any silly excuse for the problem/ pass the buck on to my usage pattern, nor did they try to patch the tank up/apply anti rust etc. They simply agreed to have the tank replaced without my having to argue/raise my voice. My inference is that Suzuki is happy to replace the tank in case of any issues. period. So, I have no complaints with their handling of the issue at least. As to the reason for the problem - thats a separate issue in itself...

The quality issues notwithstanding, the bike is really a treat to drive on the highway. My trip to Pondy (350kms return trip) during the weekend went off really well, aided by great weather. Feedback as below on the bike:

Ride quality: Excellent for both driver and pillion
Ergonomics: spot on - me and wife both have no major aches to report after the trip.
Cruising ability: Great. One can maintain a cruising speed of 70-80kph (5000-6000 rpm in 6th gear) on the highway in a stress free manner. The bike gives a rock solid feel and is not affected by cross-winds even at speeds of 80-85kph.
Noise/Vibrations: Really low, and a key reason for the bike being great for long distances.
Power: sufficient to easily overtake other slower moving vehicles, trucks/buses.
Brakes: Adequate. Have now got into the habit of mostly using front discs, and support the same thru the rear drums. Performed well during a couple of emergency stops on the highway. Front disc very light to operate, and very progressive in feel, and so no aches in right hand even after prolonged driving.
Max speed touched: 100kph. even at this speed vibes are little, and engine is clearly capable of more. but wind is the main issue.

So, quality issues nothwithstanding, the bike remains a fantastic drive .

      Cheers!
      Srinivas

You said it Srini! There ain't many bikes to beat it on the highway. The way it cruises at 80-90 kph...absolutely enjoyable. And you are confident that you have ample power in reserve to quickly overtake the slow-moving behemoths on the way.

          hello,
What mileage u got on the ride?.....ECR between pondy and chennai gives u good mileage due to low traffic, but if u drove 70kmph in sixth gear u should get good mileage...Once i checked my suzuki baleno(maruti) mileage,I started 7am from chennai royapettai with full tank and reached 10am at pondy, near pondy university I filled again it consumes 7.1ltr for 140km, which is driven 70 to 80kmph constantly......excellent mileage for a 1600cc car

Not realy sure of the FE actually. I filled more petrol than required for the trip, to ensure that I dont need to tank up at unknown fuel pumps.. Have still not hit reserve yet.. Will update when I hit reserve.

I felt most comfortable and safe at 75kph (5500rpm) on the drive. which i guess is a good mile-munching speed. Would go upto 80-85kph for overtaking if required, and settle back at 75kph.

                not sure of the reason..

                I get 68-70k usually at 5000rpm. 75k at abt 5500rpm.
have noticed that eco/pwr mode doesnt matter much for this. My odo now at 2900kms with 2nd service done.

Don't worry about mileage as long as its consistent. I think 45kmpl is nothing that low to worry about. Keep the engine in good shape, 5kmpl won't make much of a difference in long run, but engine condition will!

                        • hello guys,

I have a doubt about the 2nd service. In the manual it says 30 days for Ist Service and 60 days for second service. So for 2nd service do I have 2 calculate from the date of purchase of the bike or from the date of 1st service? My odo registers 1050 km. Help me out!

                              • oil change - 2nd service?

I had 2nd service done last week at 2500kms ODO. The SC did NOT change the oil, saying that it is NOT due, and can be done in the next service. Later I checked in the manual, and it said "R", i.e. replace for oil in 2nd service.

can anyone clarify this? If it needs to be changed necessarily, then will have it done when I get my new tank.

                                tks
