i could not inspect the tank since its closed, but almost all bikes have rusting(cant say if it appeared within a month or not though, dont know the people )
but spots on frame, screws, sometimes silencer(if the paint is scraped off) rust is noticable.
i dont think any bike company uses anti rust coating before painting the frame.
noticed this on unicorn, pulsar and HH hunk/xtreme till now( in the 150cc segment) and other 100cc,125cc bikes too.
After I notice rust in bike, have checked other bikes in my building.
1 yr old pulsar, 4 yr ols glamour, more than 1 yr old passion and Zeus.
They all have comparatively very negligible rust.

could you explain how to downshift/upshift properly ??
so far what i understood is, while holding the clutch to change gears, accelerate while shifting. is that it ??
because i usually release the throttle fully before changing gears or holding clutch(for downshift).
upshift is faster so i guess no time to release throttle fully, sometimes i think i press the clutch only half way for upshifting(if i'm zipping)

        • Here's something interesting about mileage. I gave my bike to servicing to Kothrud Suzuki today, and my collegue who also has GS picked me up for office. When I asked him about mileage, his answer was '58'! I was like I usually get 51-52 mostly double sit with my 50kg wife. He also is usually accompanied by his sister, and still he gets this mileage, that too in Pune city at peak hours!

I was observing his riding, and also asked him tips. Here they are:

          1. Use the ECO mode for proper indication of gears
          2. Don't use as high gear as possible. This may come as a shocker, as I tend to use 6th gear even in 40s speed. His funda was 4th gear for speed bet 40-49, 5th for 50-59 and 6th for above 60.
          3. Keep the RPM always between 4 and 4.5. Atleast that's what I noticed peculiarly.

I am surely going to try these tips. He was riding normally, not very slow, and surely not rash. Try these tips for mileage friends, and report it here.

Here are my FE tips from my 100,000kms.+experience with bikes:
Shift up as early as possible, but don't allow the engine to knock.
Keep upshifts in the range of 4-4.5K RPM. Works for most Indian bikes.
Don't press the clutch lever unknowingly/use half clutch to pull through in higher gears, use right gears for right speed.
            Downshift gradually.
Most importantly, Switch the engine off at signals!
            Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Will do brother ... but not sure how much of it will help ...

I had a personal chat with one of the mechanics in SC, seems each mechanic is expected to service a minimum of 7 bikes every day. If there are more bikes then the number is expected to go up. Cant really expect quality workmanship in such circumstances can we ... And i am told that the mech's usually fight over the free service bikes since it would involve less work like waterwash, brake adjustment and oil change.

                        • I serviced by bike in Kothrud suzuki yesterday, and the quality of servicing is definitely better than swargate one. Swargate is always crowded, and we have to take appointment a few days prior for servicing. There are comparitively less bikes at kothrud suzuki.

I will recommend Kothrud servicing over swargate suzuki, if one is willing to travel extra

                          • Hello Animeher,
Have you bought the HID kit for GS, you had mentioned if anyone was interested??
Let me know all the details as to the cost, whether it void the bike's warranty...etc etc.........
Please PM me with all the details....
The bike's super smooth after the 1st service especially the gears and pickup...the headlight improved a bit but not much...... same for the rear brakes.....also there are almost no vibes at 3.5k rpm....

                            • HID kit will void battery warranty, as the electricals will now be DC. REst warranty should remain intact. I have not yet bought the HID kit, because I want to fit it to projector, which is yet to be fitted inside the headlight assembly.

                                thanks for the link

to solve glazing problem is really complicated and expensive.
the engine has to be dismantled and something called rehoning(not sure if that was the word used when i read it, but its something to do with rubbing cylinder wall with something rough to get the peaks n the wall again) has to be done. and the piston rings have to be changed to fit the cylinder properly, and then another 1000km run in.

but how can you possibly tell if the bike is consuming more oil compared to other gs's ?? atleast power can be found out by taking a test ride.
