  • Booked black beauty

Finally, after 2 months of research, test drives and other stuff, I booked a black GS150R at Jains Suzuki, Chennai, today morning.

Mr.Kumar introduced me to one Mr.Pandian there, who greeted me warmly.
He quoted ORP of 68,100. And after some deduction he gave a final price of 66,950. I told Mr.Kumar promised a minimum of 2K off when I went there for test drive and after some blah blah blah, he agreed to a 2K off.

So the final price was 66,100, with only the mandatory accessories. No free accessories.

Sadly there was no stock of black GS, so they told I will get my bike only when the next batch arrives (4 days - 15 days).

He told the Thiruvanmiyur RTO, issues only Smart Card and not the old RC book. . He showed me his Smart card. It was about the size of ATM cards, all the details (bike and owner) were printed on the card itself. It also had a small golden area (like the one in Sim cards). Police who have card readers, can swipe it and view the details and history of the owner.

    The RTO charges were
    200 - For smart card
    200 - Outer city charges
500 - For affidavit (As I don't have an address proof in Chennai. They asked me to bring a certificate from my company regarding my address.)

That guy told me that Suzuki sales has increased 93% in Jan 2010, when compared to Jan 2009. He showed a newspaper cutting of it.

I booked the bike by paying 5000. And the rest when taking delivery. Waiting for that day.
Quit tabulating grudges. Let it off. Discuss it, then trash it, don't recycle it.

    • These few days will feel like months.......

I would have got GS by september, but due to some financial problems had to postpone to december. God that was so long. And suzuki dealer will call every week to check whether i had dropped it. That growth rate is really surprising............

When your bike goes to reserve, immediately reset a trip meter to 0,
then ride to the nearest bunk and fill petrol(like 1 litre) and when your bike reaches reserve again note the trip meter reading and divide by amount of fuel to get mileage.

You dont have to rely on the digital fuel meter for this method so no problem with accuracy
And the digital console of GS150r is very reliable anyways, i've never got erratic readings.

Welcome to the den of GS pians.

Is that even possible to ride GS between 45-50. I find it very difficult to keep it below 55. And even after doin it im getting a mileage of 55-60.

The real fun of GS starts from that range. Have you experienced anythin other than that visor noise and chain slack? DO share you experience with GS in detail..

Is it conducted at all the 6 service centers or only airport road ??

                    @Chennai gs150 owners:
I heard some people got new regulators.
Will they change it by default or do we have to complain about poor headlight to get the new regulators ?

                      • Hi chinmay..

                        welcome to Xbhp.

If you want to do a regular break in, keep the bike within 5.5K RPM till the first thousand Kms. You can slowly and gradually keep increasing the Limit after your first service. Use Engine Breaking (decelerating without front or rear brakes and without pulling in the clutch. Pull it in only when your engine RPM comes to level when the engine starts knocking) often when possible and keep varying the RPM. Hit Short bursts now and then but don't hold it for too long.

Don't lean along the curves initially, let the tires get some initial wear on them. pump the disc breaks often when breaking to give the disc some initial wear as well.

Don't ride it in the same gear just because the bike feels torquey in it. Shifting at the correct RPM is the Key to running in your gearbox. You might find this hard in the beginning but it will come naturally with every running Kay on your GS.

It's a good practice to Kick start the bike in the morning. I usually pull in the clutch a couple of times and kick the kick start lever a couple of times with the engine switched off.
Then I kick start the bike without wringing the throttle or pulling in the choke and let it idle for a minute(i.e. till the idiling is constant). If your Bike stalls, Get your Cold start Idle RPM adjusted.

This procedure helps the engine oil circulate throughout the engine and minimizes wear and tear of the engine during cold starts. I do this whenever the engine hasn't been started for 2 Hours or so. Rest of the time It's electric start all the waye.

It's also good to switch gears at the correct RPM. Use the Economy mode while running in. The ignition timing is set in such a way that the light starts blinking at 4.5k RPM which i find is ideal for gearshifts. You might find the gears a bit hard in the beginning, But trust me, It gets smooth with every kilometer you clock on your bike.

                        Hope this helps..

Good luck and congrats on the New Buy. Do let us know the color and a brief intro about yourself in the intro section.

                        Cheers!

                        • I didn't get anything great. Just the standard saree and crash guard. I opted out for the front tank cover and invested in a bungee net. Saves the tank from scratches and fading. If you are looking for a full body cover. Go for the P 150 Cover. It's a perfect fit for me and saves the cleaning work in the mornings. I forgot to update you guys. I Filled nitrogen during my last visit to the bunk and the suspension seems to have softened up since then. can hardly feel the small bumps. give it a shot guys

                              Hi All,

This is my first post on xBhp.

I am from Bangalore, own a Suzuki GS150 and have clocked about 5500 KM till now. Completed 3 free services. I have come to know about free service camp from xBhp site and in hte process registered for both the serviec camp as well as xbhp portal :-)

Then I have gone though ALL 390+ pages of this thread and tried to list out some generic issues with the bike everybody reported :

*) How to find the manufacturing date & month of bike from the engine number or any other number? This will indicate if my bike is from some of the early batches produced.

*) poor rear brakepad/brake spring - I find that there is less bite from rear brake but it is somewhat effective at the end of the day. Is it just a lack of feedback OR less effective in the first place? How to get it corrected in case there is a permanent solution?

*) squeaking sound from front brake/suspension

*) old rectifier/regulator ( serial number xxxxxxAA found next to engine, should be changed to xxxxxxBA ) - mine is indicationg xxxxxxAA. What is the problem with it and is it a MUST to replace this with xxxxxxBA?

*) very high heel shifter - I guess this can be adjusted

*) handle bar height adjustment - somebody in this forum mentioned that it can be lowered in service center. is it true?

*) handle lock - left side not locking properly. can it be corrected?

*) Tank rust issue - how to verify this?

*) poor grip of front tyres - I find the front tyre is having less grip. any solutions/suggestions?

                              *) vibrations at 3500rpm - I think it's a minor issue.

Please comment on these issues. I will discuss them when I go to the service camp tomorrow.

                              Thanks for bearing with me.

                              Regards,
                              Sreenivasulu Y
