Per him its confirmed that suzuki itself recommends castrol oil only. Told him the barrel to measuring can air contamination story; he agreed to do an inspection. ---------------------Also earnt that many other bike manufacturers do use the castrol oil as OEM (orginal equipment manufacturer) and sold as their own brand oilWill update all on my GS headlight and indicator lamp issue in a week time
ya agreed madhu , Before 1 year i get same response 2 times get phone call from suzuki after my feed back(for me 9am i typed ,9:20 i got phone from Mr vinod natarajan).. He gave his personal mobile no,So i use to call him and talk abt problems but lately I am become old customer so .while he talking last time ....His voice changed and told me ,any more problems call ur SC(pondy 140km from me)..I am not sure about his mood that day(he got a good tamil tune as caller tune)....After that what ever i typed no response ... I already gave this web site link so he(or suzuki) may silently watch this forum
So its depend on place where u lived The SC u got
I am in bangalore for short time(mysore-chennai sadapathi) on 24th...

    • Someone help me out i am now getting two noises from the engine one the usual tick tick sound and another noise. Waiting for the 2nd service will try to grab hold of the Main engineer.

Edit: I will contact Suzuki Directly and ask them some no of whom to contact last time they gave no. for the person who manages Establishing new service workshops

@MSN i think surely there is some kind of communication issues since there manual clearly says no brand name only Grade so to be true they can't deny warranty in any case since We are not aware of it if Castrol is only recommended then they should Print that in manual. If they do get sued for that i am on the side of Customer to bag some good amount of money. lol

Just had a small 20min job done on the bike a week back and the performance increase is amazing....also relevant as Arun & others might be facing similar issues...

2 weeks back had noticed the tick-tick sound coming bike upon accelerating in high gears at low speeds and sometimes sluggish (dragging) performance with noise ...
There was discussion here abt cam-chain being the culprit...

Had a buddy who works for Ford and also who now seems to know a great deal about bike engineering...

He drove the bike and concluded The Chain is killing the engine ...
So off we went to a roadside but well know mech near sriperimbdur...

What mech did:1. Oiled the chain and readjusted chain slack & tension
        2. Readjusted clutch lever & sprayed Rustlick
        3. Readjusted rear brake play

Result: Absolutely 0 noise (tic-tic + any other noise except from exhaust)
        from the bike...
Acceleration is terrific in power mode with a feel of some non-slip drive between engine & rear wheel...

Gear changes are butter-smooth both upshifts/downshifts

        **************************************************
hi.. today while changing oil ( gulf 4t) i also asked that local mech. to inspect the chain. he put some oil.. and tightened some screws.. after that while riding i feel something diff.. while applying rear brake.. i feel some friction.. but no noise.. just i can feel.. while applying rear brake.. i suspect that he over tighten the chain.. but no problem with gear shift.. have i rectify it. or else wait for sometime.. plz guide me

          --------------------------

Yesterday we had a team-outing drive from alwarpet-airport(drop buddy onsite)-ambattur-ambur-besant nagar totalling almost 250kms for 6hrs continuous at 90+ mostly ...

          Bikes present: 2 GS150R, P220 ('10), RTR160 & 180, ZMR, Fazer, Dazzler & Mitsubishi Cedia SPort (RED)...

          My Observations:
Talk about Castrol not being good and causing engine roughness on long drives was unfounded...
My GS was supersmooth though running at highspeeds for hours by different users...ofcourse it was mid-night trip ...
2nd Red GS had valvoline (as per his SC in Pune...2mts behind 4 service & bike arrived previous day from Pune)...
Engine was vsmooth but had chain noise

          Infact we exchanged bikes randomly...
ZMA was gr8 to drive and refined...perfect blend
P220/Apaches had plenty of torque & power(RTR180)...but refinement & lazily cruising factor was lacking...P220 broken fairing caused a racket

Fazer has Vgood Feel but engine cruising feel was never felt (felt exhausted) and Dazzler felt terrible...
Seating never felt whole & gearshifts were going to false neutral & clanky

The only bike that felt wholesome were Fazer, ZMA, GS & P220

Our entire team obs (including my Project lead)
GS was best refined in engine & comfort and had the best gearbox & they were highly impressed...called it mini-bullet
          2. RTR180 was super-mad accelerator (& tiring)
          3. ZMA felt the best overall

          Misc:
          Initial Acceleration (0-60): RTR180>P220>ZMA>RTR160>Fazer>GS>dazzler

          In-Gear Acceleration (3rd gear+ 60+): P220>RTR180>ZMA>GS>RTR160>Dazzler>Fazer

          Another important insight:
Had my GS rectifier changed to whatever (RR/AA...ABT SC changed it to latest free of cost on strong insistence)

Light intensity: After P220 & ZMA , GS surprisingly was the brightest with good spread compared to others...There is a comparatively BIG difference in high beam output after rectifier change (without any bulb mods)...

          The confusing aspect:
          1. Roughness:
When you try other bikes, what is rough in GS can be comparatively considered smooth in other bikes
Castrol P1 Trizone (249/- oil) kept engine with the same super smoothness & ultra responsiveness throughout rev range (me changed gears at 9500...other) for hrs with different ppl driving

Note: Have changed oil & oil filter at each service (6 times now) and almost 2 mts since last change...service next week for sure

I do think the occasional roughness(if that wats we can call it) in engine may have something More to do with chain/tight clutch than just oil

          2. Lights:
As mentioned before the lights are pretty good after the change, for a bike of this segment...

          3. My bike will sometimes never show the 5th gear indication
          4. Sharp Cornering can be bit intimidating in GS
          -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Final Take on GS: A Gr8 solid wholesome bike having some unknown
          personality disorder (Hey anupdas)
Phew...now to hibernate away from XBHP for 2 weeks
          Cheerios dearest buddies

PS: xBhp is relatively unknown in my workspace...they love biking & bike tech but xBhp is not known to them

PL's Mitsubishi Cedia engine is a gem ...WW acceleration, torque & handling, Gearbox have to say is the best i have experienced
Wonder why no one is buying it...its was so involving

man where are u in chennai??

              hi buddy,
the tank looks gud now. Hows the paint quality? Is it as good as the factory paint job? How much did it cost? And what about the stickers, did they provide new ones? Sory for all these questions, iam just curious 2 know the details. And from now on be careful where you keep your ride. Rowdy kids are always attracted to shiny vehicles.

              • Noise from chain!!!

Hii guys, I have observed a sound coming from sprockets(mainly from primary) when we push bike in neutral with engine off for parking . Do everyone get that sound? The sound is due to engaging of the chain with the sprockets? The chain is well lubricated and it have recommended play. I feel that the alignment is not correct.

paint quality is good and it costed me 400rs. no stickers dude they said that if we remove it then it would damage it further so just do the repaint and polished my bike after painting

there are two types of noise - tak tak periodic noise is due to contact between chain and chain guard (plastic one attached to swing arm), which is normal(i think). we can also hear a sand grinding noise due to sand particles present between the contact of chain rollers and sprocket, which will be eliminated by cleaning and lubricating the chain.

Thanks for your reply mate, but the above mentioned sound is not due to the contact of the chain with any metal parts nor the sand grinding noise. Im very much aware of these problems so I checked after cleaning and lubing the chain(already cleaned and lubed chain at least 6 times with in 6800 km) The above mentioned sound is due to the engagement of chain with teeth of sprocket. I observed the sound even after lubing the chain, the chain play was about an 20mm. Put the bike on centre stand and then engaged gears i observed the chain to be vibrating, then i thought like may be the alignment is the one causing the sound. I clearly remember the technician from service centre saying not to adjust chain from local mechanic as they may alter the alignment which may lead to unnecessary wear and tear. Today i gave my bike to 4th free service couldnt collect bike before 6 pm . The only problems I mentioned was to tighten the engine and chassis nuts and the above mentioned issue. I have to wait till Monday to know whether they have rectified it.

frd. i have made the chain alignment yesterday with local mech. and after that i felt something diff. negatively.. like some friction while applying rear brake.. does it needs immediate attention?

hello siva, do u have any idea about cam chain adjust,Bcos i had tic tic noise from engine(here in forum i got reply that its cam chain noise),while giving service day before , i told to look after the cam chain ,which mech adjusted ,now i got hamming from engine like "mmmm mmmm mmmmm", the same standard engine humming sound from pulsar...
How to revert back ...whats is that sound? No GS has this sound ,as this sound only come in all pulsar while giving throttle ......He tightned the cam chain or loosened it?????

Bro, did your mechanic tighten the loose chain or align the chain. I assume he tightened the chain. The chain should have a play of 20-30mm. Use the window in the lower chain guard to check the play. If the play is very less then loosen it ASAP or else it will lead to premature wearing of sprockets.

Yes Anupdas that sound is there in my bike too and more whenever i have just given it for service...usually when service guys tighten the chain to its max allowed limit, coz we know our GS chain starts to slacken may be by 1500 to 2000 kms. The tightened chain along with freshly oiled links usually will cause the noise. If u notice the front sprocket will always have lateral play to take up the tightness and slack as the links roll over the teeth and this too causes some noise when freshly oiled..This should get better as the chain takes up a little bit of slack may be after 500 kms or so...and should do no harm

Regarding alignment, i always go by the line indicators on the swing arm that indicate how much the wheel axle bolt has moved..do check on both sides as to how many bars..should be equal or may b off by 2 mm max..whenever suzuki does the service..the bars are off by about one indicator line may be 3 or4 mm..i come come and loosen up the rear wheel and align it perfectly..takes some time though but at least i am satisfied that alignment is perfect as per the swing arm indicators both sides!

Thanks for the tip bro. Tomorrow I will receive the bike will look for these. About the sound i mentioned, the sound feels like the engaging of the chain and teeth is not happening natural and sound feels like grunting, even after lubrication its still the same. Will give the updates once i receive the bike
