I am giving a strict thought to completely service it and run the Fiero anew again.Back in its young days it was one hell of a bike !!!!! It thumped like Enfield and raced with four-wheelers on highways. My GS now has similar performance but it doesn't have that solid thump and roar at high speeds !!!
So the Fiero was definitely a champ then. Is there any way to make the exhaust note of our GS a little thumpy, like a race fit slip on. I have said it before, once my friend commented that in lower rpm the sound of GS is like an auto rickshaw.

With out changing the exterior look of silencer. The thump will mute all those sounds from drive chain, tapetting and sound from fairing. Also we can have a delicate control over the throttle.

What the Fiero lacked was the sophistication and the smoothness that GS comes with,it was a rugged beast. It was difficult to hang on to the top speed or do a high speed cruise on the Fiero for long.Fingers numbed too early and ride felt uneasy at high speeds.

GS on the other hand,is a Boeing 747,sit back and enjoy cruise at top speeds for hours together.

Sophistication :- At the time Fiero was launched it was the first bike in India with Digital CDI (I hope I got it right) and CV Carb. Come on man the bike was launched 11 years ago, what the GS has extra is the digital speedo, thats it.
God knows which Fiero you rode, I bet none of the present bikes can match the Fiero in smoothness and refinement, the rest of your views I agree, it just did not have the grunt to pull at the top end and the handling was horrible.

But most of guys in the forum tell its Mixer sound.....But real auto sound goes to Kawazaki bajaj RTZ 100 cc in the earlier days...I own before, and ur never believe this bought that bike as second hand(4000km on odo) on 1991 for 20,000Rs and sold it for the same price on 1994 odo reading 50,000km...U can ask me How can bcos i modified very little(just exhaust, handle, and 2 fog lamps) The guy who is crazy on looking it, offer me that price

Macho 50 if you are thinking of resurrecting the Fiero, RTR 180 Bore and piston will fit the Fiero....They both share the same crank shaft with a small difference.Alternatively you can fit the RTR 160 piston or Karizma by over boring the present bore. You can also change the CDI to TCI/IDI and get better power delivery......Gixxer Junkie had done these mods and will be able to help you in this regard..refer to ownership forum ....Fiero/FX/F2 thread....The carburetor also need to be changed to BS29,if you are increasing the CC of the bike.

The original KB 100 had Mega phone silencer construction and was good. Later on it was modified with a smaller dia inner tube, and the sound changed.

true....I had KB125cc also...but its really a flop,And they use unbranded Moto cross tyres on it ....advantage great road grip, very easy to climb 10 step stairs disadvantage ...very very soft compound Tyre ...too much puncture in my 22 years of bike history...KB100 is pure japanese then later they introduced KB100 RTZ

                • Eye wash. Don't fall for such products, instead fill 1 liter petrol in the bike and go for a ride! Don't waste money on such quick saving products.

                  • When fiero was launched it was technically the most advanced bike manufactured in india. It was tuned for top-end performance, refinement and stock fieros were clocking 118kmph on chennai and coimbatore tracks(actual speeds not speedo read speeds). The fiero doesn't have a balancer shaft like gs150r yet because of the crank it is very refined on top-end.The gs150r shares the same DNA and by looking at the thickness of its bore ,i think the gs150 can take a KARIZMA ,or RTR,or pulsar 220 piston to increase the cubic capacity. If any of you can lay your hands on the old bore which was replaced under warranty, you can then put a sleeve with a bigger piston to increase the bore. The only question is how rugged is the gs150's crank shaft.Fiero and RTR can take some serious tuning and won't break down ,were as the honda unicorn derived engines can only take a increase of about 10cc more and if you put a Karizma piston on that engine and increase the compression then it will break the crank shaft in two.I've seen it happen to a CBZ extreme.

If you want to increase the performance of your bikes, then you guys are wasting your money on iridium plugs, cables,K&N etc. Like the yanks say " There's no replacement for displacement " So if you want to see the above mentioned things to work then you have to work on the engine and tune the head(porting, valve size etc). There's no other way.Increasing the bore size is the best and cheapest way to hop up the performance and not just by increasing it by .5 mm or by 1 mm.

Our(FIERO) bikes are old and we do play around with them, but your bikes are new and haven't even reached half the bore life .So it wont be wise to do the things i've mentioned .But if you want to see some real increase in performance then getting it tuned by a guy who knows what he's doing is the only way.

                      • Guyz, today evening when i was riding(30kmph) i experienced a pretty harsh sound from my bike...cant express how it was...It sounded like the chain got jammed or something( (the sound came when the gear got stuck and i was accelerating)....Now after this , i clearly feel some noticable roughness in engine.....What exactly had happened?

Even many of us had that intolerable gear struck sound during initial days,

but what you said about roughness in engine after that is some thing odd
Please consult your service center asap as this is not a common or often seen issue here

hope there was no error with the ODO meter

are you sure i cant believe it and its not a good practice, please feed your fiero and give it a fresh oil dude , even 10 ml oil evaporation per 1000 kms will make your fiero's oil tank empty by now .

i think whenever you see marginal down in the oil you top it up with a 100 ml or some quantity of oil

Now looked through that hole. Enough oil is left. Sure, miracles still happen, even after this prolonged 2000 years. Seek; you will find out. Hale lu ya.

                              Anupdas,

I am not such a big fool to put forward a suggestion before you. But, problem may be that the alignment of the wind screen is lost due to hitting the head light somewhere or due to removing and replacing it for the sake of replacing the bulb or so. Detach the windscreen and replace the 4 rubber moulded, bush type nuts if they are twisted or worn out and refit the wind screen. If you are lucky enough, the issue may be solved in a single attempt. Otherwise you will have to re-adjust the screws repeatedly. A really difficult job.

Try pasting a piece of thick adhesive tape on the fairing and refit the wind screen. This also may solve the problem.

                              Due regards.

I think you just missed a gear ! It happened to me when the engine is running hot, when you shift up the gear indicator suddenly went blank and since i opened throttle the engine rpm rose to its maximum attainable with a thud.

Wait for today, check whether the engine roughness still persists.
