Congrats and good to see u enjoying the bike, i was about to write that u visit karol bagh center for service then i read that r going there on Saturday. One advice be there early 9.30am as they start at 10am and they are off on sunday.
Now ur jerking issue , u just need little clutch adjustment, and for power loss tell them they would give u the new ecu update if ur bike is on the older map. And be sure to leave the bike at idle for 5mins after the new map.
Heating would be normal with usage once the coolant top up is done and oil change.
Shivdayal is there mechanic and parnav is there service manager.

xearoum.

From reading ur issues with the bike what i can get is the following.
The rubbing sound if it is the sound like the extra grrrr that goes of once u press the clutch and is also hear or felt at moving is 3rd or 4th gear , than it is normal slipper clutch sound and every bike has it,
The click sound u get while moving is normal metaLlic sound with heay expansion or it is the tappets.
Hard gear shifts u need to get the gear lever tightened and clutch adjustment.

Now if none of the above , and if u feel that the clutch holds for a sec when shifting gears like stuck up and then kind of kicks back to normal . U need a new slipper clutch unit as a fellow member faced this issue and his clutch was replaced and now his bike is normal without any unwanted noise.
Try to get ur area service engineer number and speak to him directly i can pm u our area engineer contact but i am for delhi.
Hope i helped.

I havent found any solution but I think that after the first service the issue should be resolved. Have you had the first service done? and if yes are you still facing the issue?
If your first service is pending then tell all the issues to the service manager and mechanic and most of them will be solved.

I also have faced this issue only 3 to 4 times and all these times I was parking my bike.

Will update.after the first service.

I want some mods done to the bike like adding a top case, rim lining, windshield and adding neon.

Can someone please suggest a good place in DELHI/NCR to get these mods done where the quality of mods will be good and not much costly too.

Also i want to know will the addittjon of neon void the warranty. If no then please suggest a good place specially for neons because i dont want to get it done from some place where the people might wrongly place the wiring and might damage the ECU.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I was mostly worried about the heating issue only. Because mostly everyone was saying that engine heat is non existent and all. The rest i had read in this thread itself that will be sorted at first service.

Your reply did help. Now I am not worried at all. and thanks for the timing update. will reach there on time.

Now there is something more I would like to mention that i forgot earlier. I did a burnout with my bike once at about 350 on the odo. Just wanted to see how the bike respons toh that. And to my surpise the burnout was aweome. But then after that the ABS was turned off. the ABS light was lit all the time even after 10kmph. But I didnt want that. I wanted ABS. Then first solution that we think of in Computers is restarting.. So i restarted the bike all the way from off position to ignition and abs worked like a charm. I havent done any more burnouts and i am waiting for 2k Kms to try more. Just letting you guys know that maybe after burnouts abs is turned off. or maybe that was a glitch.

Hi Guys,

First of all I would like to Thank you guys for such a wonderful thread. I learned a lot just by reading this thread(only first half completed till now). Now let me introduce myself. I am Mayank, a software developer. Just finished college 2 years ago and started work 1.5 years ago. I live in Delhi.

I am a new member here and i have been reading this thread since the last 3-4 days and still have the second half of the thread remaining.

I have recently purchased my Bajaj Dominar 400 (midnight blue colour) on 26th May,2017 from Bagga Link in Najafgarh, New Delhi. The Show room here is comparatively very new and not even listed on the website. I have already got 610 Kms on the Odo in just 2 weeks and that too when I was on an office trip for 3 days in between!

Before this I used my Dad's scooter for 4-5 years and then my scooty which i bought last year for 1.5 years. So this is my first motorcycle. I always loved riding a two wheeler. I said two wheeler and not a motorcycle because before this I didn't have one to ride. I am pretty new to motorcycle riding but not new to riding two wheelers or driving. I have taken my Dad's ALTO800 single-handedly for more than 500kms non stop overnight on trips with friends. I love being on the road. So it was very easy for me to adapt to the bike in a day or two.

Now the thing to mention I guess is since I had not ridden(driven) motorcycles for more than 5-6 hours in my entire life before I bought mine, I did face some issue because of the powerful nature of the motorcycle. It was stopping very regularly for the first hour I rode my bike because of my inexperience about its gear to power ratio I believe. But after one hour i picked it up and since then am enjoying my new ride.

Now lets come to my experience about the bike :

PROs:
I love my bike, It's beautiful(although I would have loved a fully faired dominar, but that's just my choice), it's fast, it's powerful and with all this its the safest in its price bracket! What I love more is that it is from an Indian brand

Its ABS is great and helps beginners like myself greatly and even helps experienced riders be safe.

I Loved its headlight. I have felt the need for better headlights even while driving my Dad's car at night. But this bike has awesome headlights for even the darkest of nights. Yes agreed that it could have been better because the lights are not perfect for corners and turns, but still they are much better than most in this price segment. The headlights light up the entire road and I don't have much problem even while driving with the black visor of my helmet down. Although i won't recommend driving with black visor down at night. I did so just to test the headlights. My helmet has dual visor so I don't need to use the black one at night. Even when my black visor was down I felt that the light was still better than my suzuki Access scooty.

The powerful engine has enough power to reach speeds of 120 (and more) easily (I have gone once to 120 on NH8) and the bike has enough weight to handle the speeds of more than 120 very comfortably. The weight of the bike is very well balanced and it feels virtually weightless while on the move.

I personally loved the RVMs. They are positioned very well and offer a really good view of what is behind. The only thing is you should know how to set your RVMs for the best view.

Comfortable ride. The saddle is comfortable. I haven't ridden tourers before so can't compare, but what I know is that the seats are really comfortable.

As good a city ride as any 150 cc bike. I have face no problems (other than U turns as the radius is on a higher side) navigating in the city traffic. And let me remind you that the traffic in Delhi is very bad. I found it very easy as the bike is so well balanced that even at crawling speeds of 4 or 5 kmph, there is no need to put the feet down.

The mileage is better than i expected. I am getting 21-22 easily in the city traffic. Haven't driven much on highway so can't comment. But have read great things about mileage on this thread.

Other silent safety features like the kill switch in side stand. The bike just won't run on side stand.

CONS :

Bajaj brought an unfinished product into the market and that is the biggest con. The bike had so many issues like the power loss which should not be there in production line bikes. Agreed that Bajaj is very quickly addressing all these problems, but my point is that they should have been sorted out before starting delivery of the vehicle

Lack of Indicators!! No gear shift indicator, No distance to empty Indicator(could have done without if the tank had some good capacity).

Low tank capacity. Only 13L is less for a tourer and a powerful bike like this.

The position of front number plate has been very poorly chosen. I think that the number plate looks ugly in its current place.

I feel that the rear break isn't up to the mark. It is good but still lacks punch. Don't confuse it with ABS. the ABS works great. And even though i feel the punch is lacking in the rear break, the breaking is still very good.

The wires are just everywhere you look. Not something you wanna see when you shell out 1.72 lakhs(or even more at some places).

This is my honest review about how I fell about the bike. But all in all I Love this Bike and even the cons aren't much of cons. Most cons are just things that could (and maybe should) have been better. But then this is a budget buy and they had to keep it in budget so it is acceptable.

One more thing i didnt like is the 2k running in period. Isnt it just too much? I mean i did expect maybe 500km or max 1k km to be the run in period. 2k is just too much for my liking. But cant do much about it other than following the run in instrucyions for 2K kms..

I haven't mentioned Vibes in the cons because I didn't feel much. I don't know if it is because this is my first ride or because maybe my bike might have already update ECU. Will come to know when I go to the first service in Karol Bagh on this Saturday.

I know it is very late for a review, but it just the excitement of owning such a good bike. The max I have ridden on the bike in one day is a little more that a ton and still wasn't uncomfortable.

Issues face by me:
I have faced the issue with bike jerking forward when neutral indicator is showing that it is in neutral.
I have faced power loss exactly once till now.
I feel the the engine heat in my dominar is above par and if I dont put on a pair of shoes, my feet are like half roasted after even a 10-15km ride. With shoes on, it doesn't feel hot.

Thanks Guys,
Mayank

Thanks in advance.
I too had the same dilemma earlier. But then I devised my own shifting speeds

2nd @ 22-24
3rd @ 33-35
4th @ 44-46

I started noticing misfire after riding in slow moving traffic in 2nd, 3rd gear.

Sir,
There are warning lights like low oil indicator, fuel injection malfunction, engine heating, battery etc. on main and secondary console of Dominar.
I would like to point out that while cruising at 100-120 kmph if any of these lights come on it will not be at once noticeable as rider is looking ahead and focussing on road.
I would suggest a " beep" sound if any of the lights come on so that rider is aware and can take necessary action.
Thanks
Kevin.
Sent the above suggestion to Bajaj auto.

A lot of folks these days seem to be more interested in gadgetry gimmicks rather than enjoying the machine itself.
When was the last time someone kick started a bike.. dang, these days folks frown upon if a motorcycle doesn't come with a self start.
You at least have a fuel gauge, so use that to get an estimate of when you should tank up. Ride the bike a few months and you will understand when the bike needs to be fed !
13L is low tank capacity ? and you mention that you haven't ridden a motorcycle for more than 6 hours so far in your life!! 13L on the dominar can easily give you a safe range of close to 280km on the highway. Are you someone who can ride for more than 300km without a single break ? I am yet to come across such a rider.. most folks even those who regularly go on long rides take a break every 90~120 mins. Use that break to fuel up. You might say you want to do leh, but are you going to goto leh everyday? This is just nit picking bro

So continue loving your bike and remember it is a machine, and try to experience it's potential as a machine and the tantrums it might throw. For the price you pay, the dominar is a good package.
Have you heard of the guy who sold his honda because it was too reliable ?

I never said that i dont love my bike. I am absolutely in love with it. But it is a con according to me because the tank on the outside is so big to look at. Obviously its just plastic and the actual tank is smaller in comparison to what tourers have. One more thing to note is that minimum of 3 litres should be maintained in the bike at everytime. So effective capacity is just 10L.

And yes it has a fuel guage but which bike doesnt? And the fuel gauage too isnt quite reliable. It goes down one or two levels when we turn off the ignition and start it again. Plus below all this i also said that most of the cons are not actually cons just things that could have been better.

I dont think that that we will run out of petrol if we fill at regular pitstops.

Also i would like to point out that bajaj has provided some gadetry on the bike itself in the secondary console. So why not one or two more which would have been more useful. I undertsand that distance to empty is very difficult because it matters on the riding style of the rider. But the gear indicator should have been there. Many times i think I am in top gear but I was in 5th and vice versa. Same with some other gears also. I would like to add that the more that I ride the bike the more I am getting used to the gears and begining to understand which gear I am in. Its just it would have been nice to have them.

And i said the same thing in my review as you that for the price it is a great deal. So please dont get offended. Everyone is entitled to his/her own views and I just put mine forward. Sorry if I have offended anyone but I stick to what I said.

Brother, 13L (10L usable) is sufficient for any tourer, it will give you easily 270-290kms of range.

Regarding fuel gauge, no digital fuel gauge is accurate, you to take the readings with pinch of salt. A person who knows his bike will never get out of fuel unless stuck in some remote location. Spend some time with your bike.

I agree. I also said that it shouldnt run out of petrol if riddden properly.

But we have been papmered. By 20L capacity of mojo. And I just said it would have been better. Not that it isnt good already.

And yes I do undertsand that it is an absolute steal at the price we are getting. So no complaints there. But we always wish for more. [emoji14]

Btw, I am completely satisfied with the bike. Actually much more than satisfied... The bike is awesome.
Cheers

Last weekend i did a 1000 km ride on the Dominar. Tank range is roughly 230 km (with spirited riding!). After that you better start searching for a petrol pump.

Unfortunately it was Bajaj who spoilt us with the massive fuel tanks of the Pulsars.

With my P220, i used to ride 500km without having to stop. Now i need to take fuel breaks
