  • Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Took my bike to SVC and back. A day there and a wash later the bike sounded good with much less rattle. But now I can hear a clearly audible tuck-tuck-tuck noise. It's not a persistent one. I'm not sure from where it's coming but it's not audible at speeds above 20~30. Could anyone please tell me what should I do next?
I asked the mechs to check oil level as I was not sure about it when I checked the level myself. Got the chain lubed and all. They said everything is fine. Didn't notice this noise when returning from SVC.

    • Its problem or may not be a problem, but new RTR engine sounds tends to change as it crosses the kilometers, happens with lots of 2012 model owner... Bike works fine but engine & exhaust note become Rough or little more loud, tappet starts giving bit more louder noise too.,.

I read somewhere in this thread that tappet noise could lead to expensive repairs. Should I take it back to SVC right away?

        • Yup you are right it can, but till what extend you are getting tappet noise is important

Prateek & Fellow member can help you more technically but if you feel roughness in exhaust then its not a concern becuase every 2012 RTR seems to be going rough after thousnd's of kilometers...

          • @ ashwinprakas : Thanks.
            @ sambit : Thanks.
            @ pratik2210 : thanks.

I am not much bothered by it. After 3 bikes owned by me in the span of 5 years I know what service guy did didn't do much damage to engine.
Atleast he did only topspeed, not 0-60 judging by 0-60 timer,it was at default setting.

I feel RTR is one tough bike. You can ride it realy hard still it can take abuse. I have been riding my bike really hard during office commute. RTR some how
bring energy levels up in me during those rides. Suprisingly I look forward to my 70 km office commute.

Also I feel Service center charged extra anyways I'm not going again to that service station. time to find better service station.

Guys I have a query. How can you adjust the Headlight? My headlight's beam falls to short. and i cannot find the adjusting screw/bolt.
Also my console's rev meter is vibrating above 7000 rpm does this mean I had to change the console?

            • hey you don't need to change console meter but if your bike is less then 12 month old grab there collars & tell them to correct that vibration or ask them to replace it under warranty, yes its possible..

Tappet clearance is 0.06mm for the intake & 0.08mm for the exhaust. Just check with a mechanic who has tappet adjustment tools.

Regarding console do what Shaby said or check the bolts again......
Regarding light, bend down and check the screw just above the front number plate and below the headlight assembly...loosen it, move the headlight assembly as per requirement and tighten it (not much can be done though), other option open the assembly and adjust the bulb socket

                • @ shahbaz : tvs service center mechanic told me to change the console as the bike is in warranty. But i afraid i will lose all the kms on odo. Anyways I had to go to showroom wherei purchased my bike and tell them to replace it. Lets see what happens.
@prateek2210 : Thanks I will check today. also can I change my 35w bulb to 60/55w bulb? will it affect battery? or will it damage the reflectors? has any body using this setup for more than 5000kms?

Any ways recently I have observed whenever I Shutdown ABS, It will automatically turn On if I remove the Key and again start the bike. Pretty good safety feature.

                  • You Will not loose the km I guess or better I say "I HOPE" & if you does then lol its added advantage too you, as Electrical warranty has 30000 km warranty only

but remember , donot allow any local mech to open your beast's headlight assly, complete assembely its complex like hell. so give it to SVC & ask them to check & do what best they can do...

Definately the best mineral oil available in market. This oil needs some breaking in for some 100 km after that its super smooth. Why don't you consider semi synthetic or fully synthetic they perform better on longer rides.

Is it necessary to get the engine flushed before changing from mineral oil to semi synthetic oil?

Nothing like that, just make sure you change the oil filter whenever you change the oil grade

What sort of oil filter do we use on our bikes, what should I ask for in specific like the quality or type or manufacturer?
