Thats where the doubt arises, we were riding on the Kollam-Thirumangalam Road, this happened somewhere in Rajapalayam, no curves, or anything a dead straight road. Him spinning out was cause the back lose traction and he started going in circles.Originally posted by evyavan View Post@aswin: Man, ABS cannot help you if you are in a turn or in lean position. I'm saying this because I know my ride came to safe and short halts from speeds above 110, while saving mine and others' lives.
He had a wreck when the bike was new, a dog jumped in front of him, he braked hard, end result was that the dog walked away without a scratch and he broke his colar bone.
I believe you might've seen the bike, its a White RTR ABS Attingal reg, with "NB" stickered on the rear fender.Motorcycling Experience:

Anyways its your bike, we can only tell what can go wrong....and yes I changed my piston in 18k, so its not hard and fast rule that the engine cant have any problems.
Let us know more about the sound that you are getting, so that we can give some views on that
I have redlined it just 6-7 times in almost a year. Is that so harmful!!!!!

Its ok, it depends for how long you kept it...if its 1minutes each then its ok...if its for a long period its wrong....Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostI have redlined it just 6-7 times in almost a year. Is that so harmful!!!!!
Again I want to confirm....do you do high speeds (as in what kmph actually)?Fare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world

Redlining when done properly is actually good for the engine, burns up carbon deposits and smoothens rotary parts. Have you ever wondered why the bike is smoother after a good hard rip?Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostI have redlined it just 6-7 times in almost a year. Is that so harmful!!!!!

Is it necessary to red line the bike in a specific gear so as to remove carbon deposits?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostRedlining when done properly is actually good for the engine, burns up carbon deposits and smoothens rotary parts. When I try to red line in lower gears(1,2),bike screams like hell begging to stop.No such problem found on 3,4th gears.
Anyone redlining on 1st gear?I feel like a ghost shaking my handle bar above 8k in 1st,So have to shift immediately."Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

Thanks for your help @prateek & @ashwin,
Would like to highlight that whenever i redlined, it was just for 2-3 mins in each gear.
I generally ride on highways & speeds vary from 90-125 kmph. But i guess these speeds are ok with an Apache.

Red lining is fun, but that fun is harmful when done every now and then.
You can red line once in a while in 3rd and 4th to scrub off the carbon deposits we're talking about. Now if you want fun, you may try in 2nd too. Avoid red lining in 1st.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

As a rule of thumb, its not recommended to redline in initial gears because it puts excess stress on the powertrain as well as the drivetrain in short, the timing chain will get loose, clutch wears faster, drive chain and sprockets will wear out faster and tappets will go out of spec sooner.Originally posted by albyjose View PostIs it necessary to red line the bike in a specific gear so as to remove carbon deposits?

But from personal experience, screw the above! I rip the crap out of the bike starting from 1st gear itself, 1st and 2nd redlining is ofcourse for a few seconds, from third gear I keep it there for a while till im close to the hardlimiter, on stock tires, my bike does 100k in 3rd, and 130k in 4th according to speedo read, havent tried 5th cause we dont have the roads for that kinda riding. And yeah the damages, my timing chain has developed slack and is abit noisy, and my clutch is nearing its end. ODO shows 22k but since the speedo unit has been dead for more than half of my ownership term I have no clue what the exact readings are.
Note- How you ride your bike is a personal choice, I didnt mean to emphasis that you should ride it like I do, ride it at your own phase, everythings good as long as you're comfortable with it.Motorcycling Experience:

Redline, Actually what is Redline?
There is a safe area of engine speed where its Combustion engine or motor's component are designed to work fine without harming or stressing the Engine. every Bike has its redline area displayed as a RED Color in tachometer, where as straying in this area doesn't mean complete engine failure instantly but it increases chances of damaging it sooner then never. A very easy example is, Cycle. if we move pedal very fast, we slip our feet from pedal same may happens with Engine.
And its not necessary to shift at Redline to get max top end, shifting at peak power is important (peak power of 17.03 bhp at 8500 rpm) Just before Red Line
lesser the stroke greater stress engine can take.

I agree with you @shahbaz63, & its a perfect example.Originally posted by shahbaz63 View PostRedline, Actually what is Redline?

But can you help me with what needs to be done to get my bike's engine corrected. BTW i dont find any change while riding it(have driven around 500 kms after the mech's advice)

I'm not an expert to give any advice. But I would suggest you try out riding style suggested by Rtrlover83. That is to keep the RPM between 5 n 6 k. It's much better for your bike and engine. Gives you much better FE too. Redlining is acceptable but for extreme situations only. Ride safe brother.Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostI agree with you @shahbaz63, & its a perfect example.

Well, get it checked with other mechanic too before allowing anyone to open up your engine ...Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostI agree with you @shahbaz63, & its a perfect example.

and Its my personal choice & view that Riding a bike in around 60-80 kph is more fun then 120 kp/h
in that speed you can feel your Ride, you can enjoy the sigh seeing & its always safe to brake hard & panic-ally but yes I do take my bike 100+ here & there every time (mostly on tours) but what I feel is more the RPM the more stress Rider feel on long ride.
But 60-80 is speed where you can enjoy riding most watching everything going past clearly & smoothly
And Cruising speed for RTR must be 80-90 kp/h or max 100 kp/h.

And 28/32? Isnt that a bit over?
