In the unfortunate even of a cable snap, in a remote place with no nearby help, having a backup is always good right?Originally posted by krish2778 View PostLijo cheta, kinda OT here, but my ride is 3 years old, 63k done. Still running on stock cables, both clytch and acc. Why is it so important to carry a spare. If fixed properly, does it still run a risk of snapping ?

True indeed , will keep that in mind. But was wondering how much life expectancy can we hope for from the clutch and throttle cable ? Kkeeping un mind it was sanely used most if the time , not much WOT situations.Originally posted by lijok View PostIn the unfortunate even of a cable snap, in a remote place with no nearby help, having a backup is always good right?

Did some basic service.
Odo reading approx 25k.
Oil+filter changed from TVS to castrol power 20w40(mineral).Works really good,40 is the grade we must go in apache I think as gear shit became butter smooth. It revs a little slow now,but will decrease the wear and tear in engine.
Fork oil changed..veedol something(approx rs100,fork seals rs 85 each).I don't think this was ever done before..the old oil was a thick black mass!Change in riding-the bike feels planted on roads at 80kmph whereas before when exceeding 65 it was ready to take off.
Welded some clamps in the back mudguard as they were broken.
Spark plug changed..stock one.
All joints oiled,cleaned brake pads.
Chain tightened and oiled.
Almost 400 rs labour cost.
Will it any way damage if I use the kill switch to turn off in 1st gear always?"Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

Seems interesting, mine is a apache 160 (2012) & while there dnt seem to be much vibs now [ ODO reads 780km], i followed the steps given in Guide (Run-in & Maintenance) for new Pulsar Owners [http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/desi-bik...r-owners.html] & also followed pratik220 FAQ. Well, Run-in being a controversial topic itself, i dunno if you should ride your bike above 4.5 till 1k but i guess only the seniors & experts can answer that. Either way, thanx for the tip...might try it laterOriginally posted by Albert Paul View PostFirst of all let me say thanks to 0mnipresent I forgot to say thanks last time when you help me.
ODO - 750km
I just want to share my short time experience with my beast with you and especially for those who complain about vibs.
I was having a hell of a vibs and noices when I got delivered my bike but I didn't do anything, I completed my partial(or may call important) run in period of 500 km under 50 km speed and also babied my bike, After my first service my bike was very better than early condition like a very good amount of vib got reduced also noices, accelaration became super smooth n powerful, so if you are in runnin in period expect worst vibs/noice but never worry it'll reduce to a greater extent after first service.
How my beast become super Noiceless/Vibless (I don't know whether it works for you or not but give it a try, Recommended for those who's in break in period)
Here are the things I've done to reduce noice/vibs and amazingly noice/vibs reduced by 70% !!!
1.) When you start your beast in the morning keep it in neutral idling for 10-25 secs at that time just give it very small revs. (To get engine temp and oil temp to operational levels, for the circulation of oil to all engine parts)
2.) Drive your first 5 mins under 4 rpm with gentle acceleration.
3.) As of my beast in run in period I used to ride under 4.5 RPM, but I take my beast at night(because I had all the runs in the day time and engine will be in perfect operational condition) and ride it using following method which is,
3.1) Gear shifts should be @ 4.5 RPM
3.2) Make use of minimum and maximum speed(within 4.5 RPM) in every gears
3.2)Gradual increase of acceleration only.
After doing this for 1 day from next day on my beast become super super butter smooth, superb accelaration and smoothness, as I've said before 70% reduced noice/vibs. I'll upload a you tube video of my beast to show it's smoothness and noiseless performance soon.
I just want to share what I found here and I'm not a pro in all these areas so pardon my mistakes and point out if you think if there's anything not good here.
Do this only after first service, till 500km try not to cross 4 RPM.
PS - after the first servicing, while my bike is largely smooth...i have noticed it's idling rpm to have shot up from 1-1.3 to nearly 2,is it ok & are there are any good aftersale ABS besides SafeABSA Bike is as good as it's Rider & Vice-verse. Ride Safe, Ride Happy !!!

Hope you are fine. For high speed riding, in our country, we need super human abilities to be safe. The least we can do is learn and practice safe riding. I go and read the Art of Safe Riding section once in a while... and try to make each given tip a habit of my riding style... try it.. it works!Originally posted by adityajohanan View PostMet with an accident at 95+ kmph last evening.. auto rickshaws should be banned.. my visor of my helmet broke, leather jacket tore, front mud guard broke completely, right side foot peg broke, fork bent, handle bent, headlight housing scratched badly.

I do that too..I use engine retard + front break and back to balance it. Also grip the tank really hard with my thighs.Originally posted by lijok View PostHope you are fine. It was a 4 track lane with a divider in the middle. This rickshaw came from the other side straight through the median into my lane. I tried cutting but ended up touching the edge of it. Worst part was I cut and would have still managed but he applied his brakes right in front of me... He didn't stop after that and went off..

WOW. Thats awesum. I once snapped my clutch cable at around 25K Kms(Thank god it wasnt Accelerator cable). From then, I take note and change both Clutch and accelerator cable every 20K Kms.Originally posted by krish2778 View PostLijo cheta, kinda OT here, but my ride is 3 years old, 63k done. Glad, you were wearing the protections. Dont worry about the bike, all would be normal. Though it would pinch your pocket. But take the positive, You are all right.Originally posted by adityajohanan View PostMet with an accident at 95+ kmph last evening.. auto rickshaws should be banned.. my visor of my helmet broke, leather jacket tore, front mud guard broke completely, right side foot peg broke, fork bent, handle bent, headlight housing scratched badly.

Yes, even I carry a spare clutch & accelerator cable with a spark plug for long ride. I think its safe & logical to change them around every 15k km for their reasonable cost & vital working.Originally posted by lijok View PostIn 73k of ownership, I've changed the clutch cable thrice and accelerator cable twice.
Still carry around a spare of each on every long ride. _____________________________________Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2
