I feel the Bajaj engines are more suited for rough Indian use.Originally posted by pranav_salieri View PostBTW why does the engine need a rebore?? is there smoke emanating from the exhaust???
The engine feels stressed, emits white smoke after 6k rpm, top speed reduced, mileage is 30.
Bike is RTR 160.-----------

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
In terms of parts toughness and quality, RTR has better rust and shock resistance than Honda's local offerings here. Rust or accidental breakage was never an issue in my RTR but the CBR is showing rust on some parts of frame.Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View PostI dont think it is a 'good practice'. It feels like optional.
No, when clutch plates are changed, oil should be changed as the old oil contains the dirt, dust and harmful abrasives.
If oil is not changed, the new plates will last at most 8k kms.
Did anyone try out mixing boric acid in engine oil and petrol and tried it using on your RTR?.....
And @All RTR Owners,
If RTR and the Hondas out there are compared, which can handle all the rough Indian terrain roads and which is the most reliable except engine (yes, ofcourse, the Honda engines are the most reliable) ???
For boric acid treatment, search Karizma R thread for PSR ji's experience with his bike.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Yes Mr. New guy, the same goes for Hero.
Hero's Extreme starts rusting after 5 years but I saw 2012 Honda unicorn rusted like hell.
I saw PSR sir's thread and tried it on my Splendor and it was extremely good.
But the effect of 100cc bike is not the same for 150+ cc bikes. That's why asked if anyone has tried.-----------

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hi All,
Just got Apache RTR 180 delivered three days back, have clocked in 130Kms on ODO.
Wanted few suggestions if iam doing right things with my beast.
> I am running bike within range of 3K to 4K RPM with speed between 35-45.
> Occasionally reving upto 5K and speed upto 65; Top i have reached is 70 that was just for a moment.
> Gear shifts are really hard sometimes, it feels really difficult in traffic.
> Am i going the right way for run-in period??
> when i should change the engine oil?
Experience till now:
> Acceleration is fantastic, it really responds to even a degree of change in accelerator movement. really satisfied with it.
> Handling is quite nice; No issues
> Brakes are great; use around 60-40 ratio for rear and front
> Engine shuts off often; guess need to change the Idle rpm settings; currently stays between 1000 - 1100
Please do give suggestions to maintain and get the best out of my beast

1. You can rev higher occasionally but remember to accelerate and decelerate slowly. No sudden bursts. And no riding at constant speed either.
2. Gear shifts will turn smoother over time. Shift at optimum rpm for each gear. Current owners can elaborate with min rpm for each gear.
3. Its advisable to change oil once you have done around a 100 kms or so to flush out any metal particles trapped due to machining processes in engine parts. Most riders are divided over this practice but since TVS oil is quite economical I'm sure its no big deal to dump oil once before first service.
4. Engine rpm can be easily adjusted. I'd advise you read up this thread for more details or visit the service centre of you are apprehensive of fiddling with a new bike.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Gearshifts will be hard for first thousand kilometers or so. They will get a lot smoother then. Dont worry. Shifts gears after 3.5k . Beacause if you shift below that there is no torque & you eventually have to move to a lower gear. Do the 2nd gear change at 13 & there after intervals of 10 like 23,33,43.
Tvs oil is good if your monthly running is 500km or less. Every 3 months there is a service so oil lasts good till 1500km.If more try shell or motul.Last edited by Mr_Many_Places; 03-25-2015, 03:55 PM.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

@All RTR owners,
In which RPM the powerband starts and ends EXACTLY?
From 2k to 6k RPM?-----------

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
AFAIK, it should be between 6.5k-8.5k rpm(between max torque and power).Originally posted by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy View Post@All RTR owners,

Isnt it the Pulsar's powerband?Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostAFAIK, it should be between 6.5k-8.5k rpm(between max torque and power).

I heard that it starts from 4k and ends at 8k rpm.
I also heard that people are claiming their RTR180 is faster than P220 in initial but it is because the lowend torque.
Try out a wheelie on a Pulsar and an Apache, the Apache will wheelie with lesser effort than Pulsar.
Just leave the clutch and wheelie will pop.
And IMO, the RTRs has the feel and fun of 2-strokes!!!
The above quote is a reply of mine in another thread.Apaches are faster in the low-end (3k-4k rpm) and lose their breath after 7k rpm.
You take Pulsar 180/220 in the comparison here, the Pulsars are opposite to the feel of 2-Strokes, the Pulsars has their powerband after 7k rpm, the point where the Apache i.e. a 2-Stroke loses its breath.
The above comparison is to show that the Apache has the same feel of a 2-stroke, the one which you wanted, and I wanted say a no to Pulsars because Pulsar is a typical 4-stroke, you need to rev high in the pulsar to feel the power.Last edited by RVSB-RocketVicknySuperBoy; 03-25-2015, 08:26 PM.-----------
