I'm sure almost everyone (RTR owners) have faced and some continue to face the "kit kit kit" character of the RTR engine. I've noticed that the tappets always tend to go loose after 1-2k of high revving riding. Adjusting the tappet must be performed regularly. The tappets can be adjusted certain number of times after which even over tightening the tappets will still cause the sound, that is the time when the timing chain and time chain kit pad needs to be replaced.

Usually an experienced independent mechanic will know the setting of the tappets or he would set it on the experience. This DIY will give proper details:- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/do-yours...ng-rtr180.html

            Cheers!!

i have rebored my engine,i think they must have replaced everything including the timing chain and time chain kit.i have also replaced the sprockets.how often should we get the tappets adjusted?? is it like every 1000kms?? and also since my engine is relatively new (run only 800kms after rebore) is it okay for the tappets to get loose very quickly?? i did revv the bike hard after 500KMS..about 2 weeks back i had the tappets adjusted.

Does "they" mean TVS SVC?? Did you get a new bore kit or an actual rebore of the old cylinder?? But new bore or rebore does not matter as the tappet is engine head related.
If the time chain is new it might require adjustment. If it is old, try adjusting it(if adjusting is of no use, change it). Once the time chain is adjusted, the kit kit will reduce. One more possibility is that the time chain adjuster(or tensioner) is worn out and not maintaining the right tension.

When I changed the engine head the mechanic changed the time chain kit pad but not the time chain. After just 140km of high speed the tappet sound started. I immediately visited him, He apologised for not informing me about the worn out time chain and told me to change it the next time. He told me that once the time chain is replaced and adjusted, the tappets has to be adjusted correctly, then the unwanted sounds will not come back even after 15k km.

I did it by myself using spray cans.
These were the things I purchased:
                      1) 1 red colour spray can- ₹100
                      2) 1 clear coat spray can- ₹140
                      3) sand paper- less than ₹15
So totally spent about 260 bucks.
60% of clear coat is left and about 20% red paint spray is left after painting the rear brake caliper. So doesn't even come up to ₹260..
I have done about 300km after painting and it is holding up well in the heat

My RTR 160 2013 model is experiencing 5-8 psi of air leakage in both rear and front Stock tyres. What could be issue. Is it a puncture or any other issue. Because of this i have to fill the air daily.... Please guide me.. By the way i have clocked around 27000 kms.

Its time to change the Rear now. Check for puncture and the valve area in the front tire. I changed my front tire after around 40K kms. I Hope you havent rode over a pothole at high speed.
