Damn , that's an bad state on the tank paint ... quite a shock after seeing Sibun'Jee's Joy . Like everyone said , you have to remove that disintegrating layer somehow(and carefully) and apply a good hard wax and polish hard .
Get a OE chrome handle , chrome handles look way better than painted ones and suits this bike , me thinks . I think it would cost less than re-painting/fixing this ugly one too .
The original fitting style for the handle is easy to fix and take off or adjust and and again suits the overall looks of the bike . Use shiny new OE bolts and maybe refinish those clamps with a sand-down and a coat of aluminum paint with a brush .

If you wash weekly you can take either of two ways ...

    i) polish the bike overall (plastic, chrome, paint and all) with Waxpol liquid silicone polish . It is very easy to apply and buff and gives great shine and protects the surface . The finish lasts just about a week though ... just right for you . Herohonda ASCs here are using it .

ii) use a long lasting hard wax and buffing buffing . Then use only a good(mild) automobile(car) shampoo to wash . A good car shampoo will take out the surface dust and pollutants but leave the wax layer intact for 3-4 washes(a month) at least .

Leaving the surface just clean after a wash is not good long term practice from my experience . The paint and other parts then tarnish , scratch and damage quicker from constant exposure to dust settled on it, bird poop, industrial pollution, salty sea air, sand particles, mud, hot sun, flakes of road tar, gutkha spit etc etc . Once such damage has accumulated over a period you'll never get it back to shine like Sibun'Jee's Joy ... however hard you may try .
I think I shall take option one for the monsoon. Waxpol products are really tough to find. I spoke to one shop owner who said that the company isn't very efficient in providing supplies. As a result of it, he has stopped stocking Waxpol and has started stocking motomax products.

@pinaki jee which according to you is a mild car shampoo? I've never used one before. I always use a little bit of surf while washing my bike. So, some recommendations of mild car shampoo will be useful.

    • It was my lucky day today!
Few days ago, i searched for cyclo carb cleaner in my city in about 10-15 shops and thats made me angry when i haven't got after diligent search & effort. Many auto shopkeepers dont even heard about cyclo so I almost reached to the conclusion that i'm not gonna get it.

Today, i was going to drop my mother to one of my relative, i found one car shop there. Lets try here, i said to myself. When ask for it, i was so amazed & shocked ha milgaya on the first chance. pic
      and
Know what funny thing happened there?
There's a mechanic standing asked me:

Mech: Aap leke ja rahe hai? Me: haan
Aap apne liye leke ja rahe hai? Me: haan
Kiska carburetor saaf karenge? Me: (pointing to my bike) ye apni bike ka.
Aap saaf karenge? Me: Haan kyo nhi kar sakte?
      lol
shopkeeper to mech: Kyo nhi kar sakta h ye...tumhi thori ek duniya me paidaisi h!
      English Translation:
Mech: You r going to take this? Me: Yes
You're self going to take this definitely? Me: Yes
Which carburetor u'll clean? Me: (pointing to my bike) of my bike.
You'll clean it? Me: Why not me?
      lol
shopkeeper to mech: why he cant do it...u r not only the one unique!
Actually what happened. the shop dealer was only having a one piece of this. He not bought for sale actually he told. That carb cleaner was given by his distributor just to give to his/that mechanic. That was kept for his mechanic, and he didn't buy. He (the mech) thought, I'll buy later. In fact, who else is going to buy except me!
He dont even think of that someone will take it before him.
Initiative, he bought, i bought it

So he was asking those ques to me. Alas he said to the shop dealer "mere liye kab la doge"

I still cant believe i have it now

Use 2k rubbing compound two-three times to make the surface even,if it does not work then sanding it using a very fine silicon carbide waterproof paper is required.
Use a hard wax(such as waxpol) to protect the newly finished surface.

What is that Hard Wax? I went to auto shop he showed me normal rubbing compound from moto max & waxpol showroom finish when asked for hard wax.
I think rubbing compound & 2k rubbing compound is different right?

can i use this? its made of USA.

Pinaki-ji, i want to try out option 2. Can you please give me the steps you follow to apply waxpol carnauba wax to your bike? I heard one needs to be careful that it should not dry up or something like that? And why is it difficult to buff?

Also please suggest a good mild car shampoo brand and its cost.

Play is normal on front sprocket , means you can wiggle the thing a bit on it's axis . The way it is fitted to the shaft allows for that movement , and it is necessary by design .

                • ^ The sticker and bottle design seems to be a direct lift from the Formula/ Formula 1 brand!!! And I sincerely doubt its 'US' credentials. Thousands of wax/polish brands floods the Indian market. And at least in a place like jsr, where there isn't even a 'knowledgeable' consumer market for it - formula carnauba waxes/polishes are a rare find.
Take my word - go for waxpol - the orange tin. The best in the market any day. It stays like magic. Pure wax - nothing else. A little tough to buff off completely. But once done, it protects your paint like nothing else.

P.S. - the one in that yellow bottle isn't obviously 'hard' wax! :P

That is not a local product. My cousin bro live in USA, he bring it for us. My father asked for it
And turtle products found to be more efficient. Results can be seen here

                    • I got genuine Formula 1 wax dirt cheap in 2010.
                      How ?
The shopkeeper was too busy watching cricket match and he told me to select my preferred wax from the shelf and pay the money on the counter.
That shop had both original and counterfeit products,I carefully selected the original one and the shopkeeper asked me just Rs.175,bargained and got it for Rs.150.
                      Whereas It costs around Rs.320/-

+100 - Beware that 90% of the imported car care stuff available here is counterfeit . Copycats available for the good Indian products too .

I can only tell you the method I follow and the stuff I use , dunno if it's perfect , but it works very well for me . So if I am doing something wrong here - others will please correct me too (so that I can improve my method ) .

                        i) Wash vehicle well - first wet it with half-bucket of plain water (I just use a mug) . Apply a weak solution of detergent in warm water with a soft cloth mop gently(don't rub the surface) .
I use one flat teaspoon of tide in half a bucket of warm water . Keep a toothbrush, little kerosene and the tide packet handy . Under-carriage , wheels, under- mudguards, greasy chain-cover, greasy engine-case etc may need a good rub with un-diluted tide on the toothbrush . Also grease and oil deposits need a prior rub with kero .
Finally wash with a bucket or two of plain water and let it dry for few hours . I wash on saturday evening and let dry overnight , then wax on sunday , and lube the chain etc too .

Waxing with Waxpol auto/scooter polish (orange tub) -

ii) Wet a piece of soft flannel(terrycot) rag and rub it on the wax in the tin . Apply smoothly a very thin layer on one side of tank , then the other . By the time you've applied it on the second side of tank , the first is ready to buff - do not delay .

iii) Buff the first applied area with a soft well-laundered cotton cloth . like an old tee-shirt or baniyan . Be sure it is cotton only a has no buttons on it . Keep buffing and turning the cloth over until you have removed all the waxy haze and get a deep rich shine . Work quickly. It is quite good exercise . Why it is difficult - you'll know once you do it yourself .
This is for painted surface only . Plastic painted-looking side panels are ok too . So is chrome .

You can apply this wax on smooth/glossy plastics too, technique is same - only start to remove the wax and buff immediately , i.e without any waiting after application .
If the wax dries up on a surface before you buff and becomes difficult to remove (happens - like I get a longish phone call inbetween) , the easy way to remove it is to apply some fresh wax again from the tin and buff instantly . Waxpol's silicone liquid polish also removes it nicely .
During monsoon on spokes/chain-cover or on parts not visible(like under seat, tank, bonnet) I apply the wax uniformly and leave it to dry (i.e don't buff) - it'll stay on an prevent rust /dirt/moisture .
Don't apply on external(visible) matt/rough/uneven plastics etc that won't allow to buff off the wax from the grooves .

                        Off Topic -
If you sometimes wear black leather shoes like me , try this . Thinly apply(again with damp terrycloth) the wax on well cleaned shoes . Put shoe in sun for ten minutes . Buff with a horsehair shoe-brush to brilliant gloss . The shine is better than the best hard-gloss shoe polish in the world - kiwi's parade gloss, and it's waterproof too . I learned this in my younger days when we used to use this same stuff to water/snow proof our leather trekking boots on the trail .

Car shampoo - use any good local brand . Too many to list here , i'm presently using one from modicare something . Waxpol also has .
