In activa on last service the honda guys used 20w40 oil don't know its type ( will check in morning on bottle for its type ) is that be good ? & what if i used same grade 10w30 oil of honda used in unicorn/shine it might be synthetic or semi synthetic i don't know its details
The oil I had suggested is Mineral 20w40 confirming to JASO MA2 spec.It will not cause any problem to any parts as it is slightly thicker than the HH 10w30.The Karizma originally came with Mineral 20w40 only..
You can use Gulf Pride 4T 20w40, HONDA 20w40, Valvoline 4T, Motul 3000 4T etc.,..Here is the old ZMA spec ....

Ok sir , will look for 20w40 mineral oil mostly of honda cause oil shops here are craps & i have doubts on genuiness of oil they selling , instead them i think going to honda ASC & getting oil from there would be good.

As per the link the initial models of Karizma are suggested for 20w40 oil , but now those Karizma-R , Karizma-ZMR are suggested 10w30 , is they (HH/HM) found any problem with 20w40 oils ? or they have some modifications in engine from the old model

The 2003 to 2005 ZMA had aggressive ignition timing and the bikes of the time had very good acceleration. from 2006 and ZMA-R onwards the ignition timing was tamed to get better FE..So it is believed that the early ones used to get hot soon while the later models ran much cooler. So the oil was 20w40 for earlier and 10w30 for later models..further the later models lacked the sprint the earlier models had and by using thinner oil this was to some extent compensated at the cost of early oil wear out..

This in turn makes the AF ratio lean and heat is the result.Add to this ,the engine now is low in power but has to pull load .

I think this is the reason for the troubles I am facing with my ZMR. My bike emits a lot of heat and much noisier. But service ppl couldnt find any fault with the bike. They kept on insisting that my bike runs fine which I didn't agree.. They throughly inspected my bike, but said no issue. Next time when I visit the service I will try to convince them to check the rocker arm, cranck shaft etc.. Coz this heating and noise issue is killing me Thank you sir..

You should get your ROCKER ARMS, CAM SHAFT, AND VALVES & VALVE SEATS checked.

10w30 will give good acceleration, but engine heating willl be there and engine oil will go bad in 600 to800 Kms.20w40 mineral oil will last twice as much and engine will run cooler..The ZMR has a fairing which does not allow free air movement across the engine head and so it will become hot, noisy and rough..so a 20w40 will do good for the ZMR engine.
Using Synthetic oil may lead to oil leaks..

So there will be some drop in mileage with the 20w40 oil ?

Go for Gulf Pride 4T plus oil.

Gulf Pride 4T Plus,Motul 3000 4 T,HONDA ,Valvoline 4T,Shell AX series, or any JASO MA2 standard Oil will work.
With 20w40 the acceleration may seem slow till warm up....and yes the previuos ZMA of 2003 to 2005 used to become hot sooner than the present one...The Lower cowl in ZMA/ZMA-R, and on ZMR reduces airflow around the engine head and makes it hot...
I had removed the lower cowl/fairing from my ZMA-R and the bike remains much cooler on long runs at 110 kph and also in city runabouts with stop and go traffic.

How much kms or time we can expect for it to warm up... because acceleration is what makes riding it in city pleasurable.... for 10W30 which oil brands...

The 20w40 will take 1 to 2 Kms of ride to get warm, for 10w30 all the manufacturers mentioned before ,do make it.

                              • Well, I've tried asking nearly every dealer in Chennai, in the last one week, about a ZMR in red, full cash payment. And the answers I've received so far? "Saary saar, red colour is naat available. White or black you take saar". Some have even said - "No demand for red saar, so we are naat aardering"!. Something is seriously wrong here fellas. Is this red crisis the same everywhere else? Or is it just Chennai that doesn't seem to get red coloured ZMR's and ZMA-R's?

So, what do you say guys? What colour shall it be? White or something else? Or shall I just put down a few thousand for a red and check out my fate? I really really REALLY don't want a black ZMR. Somehow, black ZMR doesn't look all that appealing to me on a ZMR as say red. Or white even!
