Hello Guys, It has been 6 months and I’ve done 12000Km on my ZMR; it is time for a review:
I've been to many places and have always kept on good empty roads at constant speeds of 100 to 118KMPH, top speed so far 122KMPH; i never ride rashly in the cities and never cross the speed limit of 60 to 80 in cities and sometimes very slow depending on traffic, but mostly I’ve used my bike for touring and that is the main reason i bought it. I have maintained it well, and gathered info on how to best maintain it, at times when i was not in city and crossed over 2000 to 2500Km on my bike, i changed my oil and sometimes topped it up, I’ve done so far 5 official servicing on my bike, but always kept my bike up to date. I will also give details on my service record below.
It has never given any trouble whatsoever, not a single puncture, and on my last servicing i replaced the rear disc pad, spark plug, air filter. Although, when i am on highways i feel the need for speed to cover the long distance in short time, for which i feel ZMR should have been a little faster.
I’ve decided when my tyres worn out I would replace it with stock only, and although the lights are not strong enough, i would stick with stock.
I’ve never given notice to the mileage except for the 1st month, which was about 38KM/Ltrs; but now a full tank gives me 540KM before i need to fill it up.
The important thing is I’ve never left the bike at service station; I was always there when the mechanic was working on my bike, and for that reason there has only been 1 mechanic that works on my bike. I usually go 8 in the morning on a weekday and by 11 or 12 my bike is ready (I go to Phoenix motor @ Hitec city servicing—they have a good workshop).
I bought this bike for 115000 and paid the cash in full, and for that amount I think it hasn’t let me down, although later I realize the performance of CBR250 and other good bikes are way ahead, but then it also makes me think that ZMR is a good in terms of fulfilling my needs of touring at an affordable price.
I am going to change in my next servicing the engine oil, I would change from HH4T to (Shell AX7 SS 10W40), although there is 10W30 available, I would stick with 10W40 and anyone who wants to know why can talk to Ravi Varma (he suggested other oils as well, but I want to go with Shell AX 7 10W40). *and as a rule you should tip your mechanic.
Below is the schedule:
*Paid around 5100 on bike maintenance so farService Schedule Amount KM 1st Service 340 648 KM Odo Oil top up 123 2171 KM Odo 2nd Service 340 2994 km Odo Oil top up 215 3900+KM Odo 3rd Service 700 5553 Odo Oil change 350 7396Km Odo 4th service 340 9187 km Odo 5th Servicing 1870 11804 km *also did some more oil top ups which are not logged here
*Spent about 22117 on fuel on my bike
*Spent about 29640 on riding gear and other bike accessories.
*paid for bike 115000
*Total spend on bike, fuel, maintenance & riding gear & accessories 171857 (I still didn't spend enough to buy a CBR 250 lol, so not a bad deal and it serves my needs).
Hope you like the analysis guys....

Have been maintaining a service sheet myself since I bought the bike.
Bike bought in Jan 2011 and run 20700 kms since then. Didn't ride much in 2011 though. Around 7789 kms only.
Today morning, it was dot 20700 on the ODO. Hence, thought of calculating the overall mileage.
[P.S - I have done over 10k kms on the highways, hence expect the final mileage figures a bit high
]
Total kms done - 20700
No. of times refilled in these 22 months - 75 times
Amount of petrol filled till date - ~481 litres
Hence, the average = 20700/481 = 43.035 kmpl
Yippie, my 223cc mill churned out 43 kmpl overall. Me a happy owner.
Parts replaced so far:- (with the cost incurred)
Spark plugs - changed at 12k as per the manual. Still have the old one. - 130 INR
Air filter - changed at 9k and 19k kms. Discarded the old ones - 450 INR
Chain sprocket kit - changed at 17.6k kms. [used to lube them every 1200 kms or so, now I lube them every 500 kms] - 1000 INR
Headlight assy - 55/60 Osram NB + 20 SMD pilot lamps - 1000 INR
Rear tire - Pirelli Sport Demon 110 - 2800 INR (got 500 off on returning the old tire]
Oil change - HH10w30 till 12k kms, changed every 1.5k kms - shifted to FS - change every 3.5-4k kms since then - 2400 INR
Fuse - changed the 10A fuse once in warranty. - NIL
Starter relay - changed once in warranty - NIL
Chain lube + grease - got it for free from a mechanic outside office. [how/why - that's a looong story]
Brake pads - rear stock, front replaced at 15.5k - 1200 INR
Total maintenance cost - 8,980 INR
Amount spent on fuel + maintenance = 35150 + 8980 = 44,130.
Bought the bike for 1,00,025 OTR (Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand)
Total spent in almost 2 years = 1,00,025 + 44,130 = 1,44,155/- [Could have gotten a Duke 200 lol]
Anyways, me leaving for my native in 2 days... Happy diwali in advance to all.

Bought a hid finally!! 'PAKE-KAWA'.. That's the strange company which offers 1yr warranty and even the guy promised to change the product in case of defect including the bulb within a year.. Including fitting charges it costed me 2150/-. 1800/- kit and the rest is the fitting charges.. Beam throw is much better for low-beam and for high its not so bright as a p-220 but still it is better than stock.. Both low-high beam are xenon.. There was another option: low beam as normal and high beam as xenon but i did not want that.. And they say cops catch you for hid's.. True?Last edited by abhi7013; 11-13-2012, 12:18 AM.ZMR- PGMFI re-defined

@padfoot and divya
the vibes in the bikes are disappeared, he did not do anything much he just put feviquick in between the joints
my bike is vibe free after a long time, i felt i was riding a new bike again
i went for short trip in my zmr in mysore road yesterday,
i cruised at 110kms it was so fun to ride
the zmr may be slower than the other 220 and odd cc bikes but who the hell cares about that until the feel is so great and the engine is butter smooth.
according to me, zmr is the best touring machine
i cornered the bike, it responded very well.
zmr is a great looker and a head turner even now after 3 long years especially the pearl white
i only wish it had a analog meter like the karizma r.

Wait, what? Feviquik? Which joint? How on earth are you going to open the fairing if the need be? That adhesive shall restrict you a 100%.Originally posted by Praj zm View Post@padfoot and divya

Well, nice to know your bike is vibe free, but please elaborate the process undertaken by the mech.
O.T - Do you stay near Ramaiah? Which mech do you tend to?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

yesOriginally posted by Divya Sharan View PostWait, what? Feviquik? Which joint?
cowl and front headlight unit as i was saying that the vibes were around the same place
How on earth are you going to open the fairing if the need be? That adhesive shall restrict you a 100%.
no idea,he said it was possible if he cleaned it
he did it to all the zmrs and karizma r
he knew fevi quick qould work because many had come with the same prob and it worked

no process just glued the joints

he has a small shop i can take you to him when we meet sometime

Since you say that he glued the cowl and the headlight unit, I assume the black plastic meter console would have been feviquik-ed! I fear it may create problems if you intend to open those parts for headlight/pilot bulb/indicator change. Usually, there are 6 screws on the windscreen/visor, 6 screws on the meter console and 2 screws beneath the headlight, just behind the number plate that need to be tended to.Originally posted by Praj zm View Postyes

You should have gone for the double sided tape thing bro. I'm not sure how'll he clean the glue once its set.
Have you tried opening any screw after he glued the joints?
OT:-
BTW, we stay max 2kms from one another and have never met. Shall see you by Nov end as I'm on my way to my native now. Are you talking about a mech with a small shop named Royal motors? The shop is behind Reebok showroom on New BEL road.Last edited by Divya Sharan; 11-13-2012, 04:43 PM.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
