      • Hi guys,
Off late, i have been a bad 220 owner. Didn't take care of it as i was frustrated with electrical issues.
Booked the CBR250R in a fit of rage. Currently, after a not too impressive test ride of the CBR and then seeing the N650R teaser, i will most probably keep my 220 for another year. The electrical harness has been changed and electrically the bike is fine.
Have decided on a major overhaul of the bike.
        Issues currently faced
        1. Vibrations in the 5.5 to 6k rpm range - has compromised the cruising speeds.
        2. Top end has gone down to 125 kmph. Till an year back it used to cross 130 easily.
Do let me know what all things can i get done on the bike (no HID/visual mods) I have a generous budget :-D

The bike is 43k km old.
One thing for sure is that i need to replace the clutch plates.
        What else ?

ok on a serious note , how bout getting your ride "joel"ed ?? Im sure even just getting the ports shaped and some basic head mods will make the bike feel waay peppier ..

Laut ke ghar ko aaye budhu!

            - Get the filter replaced. (Air/Fuel)
            - Change clutch plates, change oil to Motul 300V. Clean the Oil filter whilst changing oil and also ensure that the oil is drained from the Oil-Cooler before changing the oil.
            - Get the throttle body cleaned.
            - Change the piston rings (if you have not done that yet!)
            - How worn is the chain sprocket set, change it if its reasonably old.
            - Get the balancer shaft 'balanced'
            - Tyres replace if really old.
            - If the rear shocker gas charging has not been done, replace them! Since I assume your bike is more than 3 years old.
            - Get the cone-set replaced, fork oil drained and refilled.
            - Check brake pads condition, replace if needed. Replace brake fluid.
            - Get the starter motor lubricated
            - Get the fairing double taped.
            - Do an engine decarb if not yet done.

            Phew!!!!

            Any issues with the bike?

Joelization (there.. i invented this one ) and porting is the last stage. First will get going with the basics !

Ha ha.. haan bhaai, old is gold till it turns Ninja green :-D

Issue with the bike: Mostly electrical. All sorted after changing the harness. But it has lost pickup and topend - primarily due to very average servicing(the replace fuel filter and grease it all kind) and infrequent care.
              Sprocket is due for replacement.
But surprised with piston rings ! Should that be changed like every xx k km ?

I get mine replaced every 30K kms! To ensure that no oil drinking takes place and I don't reach the state where I need to change the bore-piston kit!

Its more like a preventive to ensure your cylinder remains in a good condition! 30K is recommended only if you ride very hard and very fast, the interval can be pushed back if you are more gentle with the engine. Even then 40K should be good enough!

                • Went to Khivraj Probiking on Saturday and got my bike well serviced. The mechanic(Shuaib) who was doing my service for the past 3 years, was not availiable so asked Majeed( Manager in charge) for the best mechanic around, and he mentioned Arun, and I was quite impressed with his work and knowledge.

There were no major issues with the bike, but replaced few things so that my bike is tip top without any hastles.

                  1. changed the clutch and accelerator wire.
                  2. Changed oil.
                  3. changed spark plugs
                  4. changed rear brake pad.
                  5. changed Air filter and Fuel Filter.
                  6. throttle body cleaned.
                  7. checked for any loose wiring etc.
                  8. Lubed the chain and tuned the engine and did CO settings.

There was/is no major issues, and till yet I am happy. The bike is running quite nicely and the pickup has increased, and reaches 100 in no time ( dont know exactly the time, but its fast compared to previous ones).. The top end has reduced to around 130-135, may be because of the tyres( pirelli sports demon)... did 144 acc. to meter reading when the bike had stock tyres. Hope there is no niggles in the coming time.

                  @Praful bhai,

yaar ye bata, is there any need of changing the piston rings really.. and how about lubricating the starter motor.??

Yaar Praful.. I dont think so change of ring is needed every 30 or 40K.. I would say, only look at it, if you feel smoke is coming/engine oil level is dropping..

Again as you told, the life depends on the way to rip the machine.. Mine is 55K and havent changed it yet.. Have to agree, that I dont rip like you.. But am not very sane a rider too..

Waise forgot to say "Am coming to meet you soon "

                    • @Mav/Vinal: There is *no* need as such to replace the rings! Ring only need to replaced if the bike is showing signs of drinking oil or smoke from exhaust!

But rings are something take a lot of wear and tear, worn out rings will wear out the cylinder faster! So eventually when one reaches a point where you have to replace the entire bore piston kit.

I am just offsetting that kit replacement by a few more kilometers by changing rings every 30K kms, primarily for two reasons
                      1. I ride the bike VERY hard!
                      2. I intend on keeping this bike for more than 1L kms.

                      • Or even if u feel a loss in compression , a change of rings ll help.

There will be a noticeable drop in power if compression loss is there.

The PBK should have a compression guage to check if there is a loss in compression or not.

                                Hii..
how much running in period is required after rings change? 500kms or 1000kms??

Got my P200's compression test done today..it was below normal at 11.5 where as ideal compression is 12.5...
My bike is drinking too much oil...toped up 600ml oil today
So getting the Rings changed in 1-2 days time..
KMs run till now 30,800kms only still this kind of problem ... it is disturbing me a lot since i took proper care of my bike..timely service and regular maintaince

what should be done to stop oil consumption apart from rings replacement..there is no visible smoke from the exhaust..

                                valuable suggestion needed..
