  • @Ashish: Good to hear. Still running in the bike? You should be able to open up a little bit more now. The true story about oil drinking will only be shown once you do a long hard ride.

@Andy: Looks like its time for the Blue 220 guys to suddenly wake up from deep slumber, first it was 'theslayer' now you. How about some of the older lot like RaviKiran also make an entry in this thread

      • 50 K achieved & started a New Journey

        Hello guys,
Hope you all are doing fine. Hope too that all of your respective bikes are doing well too. No matter what other's say, Pulsar 220 is a value for money product. Yes, it has some minor issues but I guess I won't be wrong to say that if you take care of it it never fails to amaze you. I have completed 50,000+ kms few months back (bought on Sep 19, 2008). It's really been a wonderful journey. Had few minor accidents but nothing major. Surprisingly I didn't do much of touring but whatever small tours I undertook I have had full faith on my bike & it never gave any trouble while I was on tour, be it all night ride to Sadhupul, near Shimla or One day to-fro journey to Jaipur just to have a BURGER !!
Interestingly I have also commenced a new journey. I got married to Shipra Jain who used to work in my office on 12th May'11. She never used to ride on bikes before meeting me. Now, she is pretty much comfortable riding pillion on bike. I have made her ride the bike too on 2 occasion but that was just for few metres & within the residential colony where I live. Just imagine that she managed to rode close to 700 mtrs on Pulsar 220 with me as a pillion !!! Commendable considering the fact she never rode a 2 wheeler except cycles Anyway, I am very happy to be with my 2 wives If god bless me then I would like to have one more wife but I would think twice before selling off my beloved 220 Fi

Sharing a happy moment of my life with you guys. Keep riding

Note: We are desperately waiting for a trip lke that of Anirudh & Nandinee (animeher)

          • do Bajaj still provide service for Pulsar 220DTSfi ????

I am asking because I am thinking of getting a used one.

Obviously, I would not buy the bike if Bajaj no longer services it, my main concern being the Fi system. No Bajaj motorcycles are equipped with it.So what would happen if the system need repairs ????

However, since Probiking services Ninja 250R and its Fi system too, my hope remains.......awaiting reply.

            • Bajaj "Probiking" still very much services the 220 Fi.

But some parts might be difficult to get in maybe about 2 years time. So if you plans of a longterm ownership would advise the 220 Dts-i instead!

Thank you for the input......but I am searching for the DTSFi because I like its performance more than the DTSi.I used this bike, though I had not owned it back in 2008.

However, the long term issue seems to dampen my enthusiasm.

Once a bike is phased out it will be difficult to source parts beyond a certain point of time. As I see it, maybe 2 years down the line accouple of Fi specific parts *might* get difficult to source. This is not for sure, put the possibility still exists!

The Dts-i has better performance overall, and is much more refined. I would still say go for that!

                  • Okay who wants to see my huge service bill See the attached image for details The part description is picked up from the service bill directly.

NOTE: This kind of a service in necessarily required to be done, but I had done a lot part replacements as a proactive measure! Got my bike back yesterday after it was at PBK for almost a week.

                    Key Parts Changed:-

                    1. Bore Piston Kit - This was unexpected, but there was a bit scoring on the cylinder walls and if I continued using the existing bore-piston somewhere down the road, major oil drinking would have started. So got that replaced, and for the Fi also now the bore-piston kit is the graphite coated like on the 220 Dts-i. So running in the bike easily this time, no motoman business!

                    2. Wiring Harness - A couple months back my bike had died down due to a problem in the wiring for the ignition circuit. This was due to over time with rains and multiple washes the socket had corroded and hence my bike was electrically dead. So decided to replace the entire wiring harness as well, more so because mine was the older design for the wiring harness. This was the most expensive part in the service.

                    3. Right Hand Switch Console - The engine kill switch had broken internally and after that bike was in always ON condition once I put the key in. So this was also replaced.

                    4. Clutch Bell - Over the past few months I was facing issues with the clutch and transmission in general. So everything was opened up and it was seen that the clutch bell had worn out. So this was replaced too.

                    5. Rear Suspension - The Nox suspension needs gas charging to be done every 10K kms, and I'd never gotten it done as PBK never had the equipment to do this. So finally decided to replace the rear suspension as it had past its 3 year running life. Put in the 220 Dts-i rear suspension as its stiffer than the Fi.

                    6. Starter Clutch - Couple of months back while on the highway suddenly there was a very high pitched clattering sound coming from the engine. Found it to be coming from the starter motor side, so I assumed that a spring might have broken and was internally bouncing about and causing this noise. But on opening the clutch it was discovered the plate had cracked and the entire assembly needed replacement. Surprisingly this happened in early March and I was running my bike just like that for the last 3 months without any starting issues

oye...cylinder/piston kit is cheaper than wiring harness
How much is the right side Switch? couldnt find it in the list

Any noticeable change in bikes behaviour after all this?

Bikes is very very very different now. But its only done 40 kms till now, will know in a weeks time how its behaving. But so far so good, positive only Infact loving the new smoothness and grunt in the engine now.

Dude. See the parts replaced, Wiring harness - 2.5K, Bore-piston kit- 1.5K, rear suspension - 1.4K. All these are big components of the service, and were pro-active changes

                              Not really necessary!

Motoman would not be a problem for a *all* new bike, the rest of the components of my engine transmission are still old so no motoman! Btw, running in is limited to keeping at 6K rpm which is 88 kmph good enough I say
