    Finally got my zma r

the bike has already clocked 450kms within 48hours
Did a short ride to alibaug

    Pros
Bike is excellent when it comes to refinement, no rattles, and stress free ride quality.

    Cons
Pathetic stock headlight, (will switch to phillips extreme vision)
The stock horn should be branded as deaftones, will switch to a dual horn
Cold start issues, the bike just refuses to start with one self, i need to keep twisting the throttle, feels as if the bike is running out of fuel
Down shifts on the gears feel hard, however the up shifts are extremely smooth

    Aftermarket help
Do i need to install a relay for phillips extreme vision bulb, or is it a direct fit.??
Do i need to install a relaly for dual horn, or is it a direct fit.??

For best output you need to use a relay, if your'e lazy like me then directly plonk it in, no issues. Regarding the Horns,it would be best to switch to Roots Windtones, cheap and works wonders on highways, but make sure you get good quality wires and relay. And regarding cold start, dont worry, its supposed to be like that, irrespective of what other people say. Use choke, and press starter once the bike fires, maintain idle above 1k with throttle and then turn off the choke, and keep idling it till the bike is able to idle on its own without any help.

ok done, but wouldn't all of this void my warranty.??

How can i ensure that I've purchased a good quality relay and wire.??

Can any one help me out with a good mechanic in bombay who can perform the above mods.?!

          Warranty? Buhihihi!!!

No issues mate, if you're worried about warranty then go with the Windtones and HL upgrade but use relay only for Windtones, HL direct plug and play would do, if you need to claim warranty you can just remove Windtones and plug back the stock horn and approach SVC, but thats not needed in most cases, my bike has after marked DRL's, HL's, Windtones etc when I had claimed warranty and that too multiple times so no issues I believe.

As for wire, the specifications are mentioned in the box itself, and no matter what refrain from using the local speaker wires that workshops stock on. Relay its upto you, Roots made ones are recommended by many but it didnt work out well for me, so I settled with the kind of ones used in Bullets and Rickshaws.

As for mechanic, it would be best if you could DIY it, cause mechanics tend to be careless and unreliable from my previous experiences.

Congrats Bro...Mine is 5 month old and I am proud to own this machine.
Cold start is common I think in ZMA.. mine is rectified by myself as suggested by experienced members here, now starting in a single push of button.
Downshifts will be smooth after a while.
Even I am also in search of a good horn setup.

Yes indeed, downshifts are getting smoother
and even neutral comes easier now, earlier i used to find it hard
I'll rectify the AFR screw today, hopefully it works right for me then

Please do remember that there is no strict rule that the bike should start instantly when the starter is being pressed, so dont bother about fiddling with the AFR screw on a frequent basis, cause if you do so, there will be excess clearance and you'll develop an irritating air leak.

                    Completely agree to that
The only issue is when i start the bike, it dies off like there is no fuel. and that annoying feeling lasts till i at least ride it it for 500m
id rather take it to the service center then, or maybe a local mechanic.??

                    Query
Should i stick with the engine oil that is mentioned on the service book, or should i switch to something much better.??
PS This would be my FIRST service

As for the cold start thingi, its bound to happen, low compression engine needs some more time to warm up, it would be best to throttle(Very gently just for maintaining idle above 1.2k RPM) it for 30secs till the engine is able to maintain proper idle and then ride on. And for first 500mts shift a bit later than you usually do.

As for the oil, I would recommend you settle with Shell AX7 its cheap and gets the job done, change the oil as soon as the engine starts feeling rough, and at best dont keep any oil past 2k kms. Stick to Minerals or Diesel oils. SS and FS oils not worth it.

Isn't this bad? For the engine I mean?
                        Maybe a myth as well.

What I feel is that 45-60 sec idling may not be enough to warm up the engine, hence I've been practicing <4k RPM riding for the initial 3-4 kms to ensure that the engine has come up to proper temperature (but I don't lug the vehicle). I have been doing this for 40+k kms now.

                        Am I being over cautious?

Dont you think the above highlighted part is contradictory. As far as my experience goes, AX7 lasts easily over 3K kms (Including long rides) if one doesn't ride like a mad dog given a throttle.

Its better than lugging the engine after a cold start which will result in more wear and tear, when you maintain a higher RPM there will be more oil circulation and this in turn is preferred over the latter. I believe this is why some manufacturers recommend using the self start over the kicker for cold starts.

Nope didn't feel so, judging by the price its sold for its one of those pseudo synthetics a.k.a Synthetic blend oils.
Im using a similar one from Valvoline on my D100 now, engine's a little rough after 2k kms, but since I dont have the luxury of changing it any time soon, would keep it for the return ride and change at 3k kms.

my bikes first service would be due by 750 kms, so ill buy Shell AX7 and ask them to change it for me

                                Ideally yes.

Irrespective of distance, Iridium plugs are useless for our bikes. At max, get NGK G Power.
