Went to the auto market here today and nobody stocks genuine Karizma body parts sadly! Haven't taken her to any mechanic yet, just removed the broken fairings by myself to assess the damage.
If you have the broken spikes, you can try fixing them in place with Araldite as suggested by @AK3D. If you don't have, then you have to buy a new one. Alternatively, if you have at least one spike in place, then you can do some juggad at the bottom of the headlight where it rests on the frame. You can fix it with a bolt so that there won't be any play. Then it may work.

Some sweet music to my ears sir.
psr sir, I have compared the Unicorn's rocker arm with Karizma. Karizma rocker arm is way bigger and no way we can interchange them.

Yes sir, you are the first one to clarify on the Tech specs , and differences between old and new ZMAs...I was merely trying to share what the chief mech told me esp., the present ZMA's upgrade possibility ,which I am sure had made many present owners happy .

Hi Guys, Thread is so silent for last 2 days???

I am hearing grinding noise ( phati si awaz ati hai ) from engine above 5000 RPM when accelerating hard or in head on wind condition , its like engine is out of breath for a moment but no loss in acceleration.

When I accelerate sedately there is no sound. Bike run 500 kms after last oil change.

Have a look of my spark plug..

Is this due to tappet, knocking, bad petrol or anything else? Or is it normal in ZMA.

I have a pulsar 150 classic
Vibrates, gears are notchy, and has a good bassy exhaust.
Reliable as hell (75k kms and counting on stock bore)
Really fast and has a very short wheelbase (quick to turn and corners like a dream) strictly a city bike. Horrible on highways and has quick short gear ratios.
Fuel average I get is around 45 to 48 kmpl
Doesn't budge over 120 t0 130 on the speedo gets stuck in between,
Revs like crazy and loves to be redlined. I love bikes like these and I cant chalk up a connection with smoothe hondas such as unicorn etc and even the cbz and hunk.

Saddly its old now, and issues crop up here and there, nevertheless I will never sell it, it will be my leasure, diy, weekend bike. Ive worked on quite a few bikes and im good with diys etc.
I want a daily , reliable, sporty commuter thats fast and gives me a mileage of about 40. Im a college bloke.
Also,
I want a bike that I will keep for atleast 5 years.
Im 6 ft 2
80kgs
I shortlisted the zma and the apache,
Current gen pulsars are a nightmare wrt quality
I dont like the 200ns.

Im split between the zma as I will be touring too and I want a ride that can do 80 kmph all day long with bursts to 100+
My touring will be strictly 2 to 3 times a year 1000km saddle sores.
Reliability is high!
I care for my bike like my baby.
I just love the apache that I did a did a test ride on a few days back. Just like my pulsar classic and even better!
Zma feels lovely too, feels like i can cruze on it till the tyres go bald! Ok in cities..though. ...

So here are the questions:-
-I heard zma spares are costly and hard to get by. Also hero will be upgrading the zma soon with a horible contraption that I see. So spares will be even harder to get. Any solution or info on this?
- zma is not fuel efficient and I will not get above 25-30 in city usage.
divyansh....
- overheating issues?
- rust issues?
- does it have a kick start?
-zma quality from the initial models has gone down?

Sorry on the longish into. I just hope it helped you understand me better.
If theres any sms lingo blame it on my auto correct dictionary.

Well looks are subjective. Moreover, we haven't seen it in flesh. But the newer ones come with 2.5 hp extra power and some extra torque too. Spares will be available. RX spares can still be sourced after these many years. I guess every manufacturer provides spares up to 5-7 years after production stops.

- zma is not fuel efficient and I will not get above 25-30 in city usage.

If one thinks his ZMA is a Ninja 650, then you'd get 25 kmpl. Else 32-33 kmpl with humane riding.

- overheating issues?

Not much. All air cooled bikes do!

- rust issues?

Exhaust pipe and underbelly components/screws. Can easily be avoided.

- does it have a kick start?

Yes. No idea if the upcoming models would have one! But I feel that's not a deal breaker.

-zma quality from the initial models has gone down?

Nope! In fact, the plastic parts for the bikini fairing and tail lamp cluster are of better quality.

• Re: Karizma/Karizma R

Hi all,

Yesterday rode from Bangalore to my hometown Ujire (South Canara / Mangalore district). It is my longest ride so far (~330 kilometers), though I have had the bike for two years. Was fully geared up (including knee guards and such). Turned out to be a fun, relaxed, very comfortable ride without any problems. Will be at home for atleast a week, relaxing.

There does seem to be an issue though, which could be minor. Full story below -

I had filled my tank to the brim about 10 days ago, and started facing this issue after a day or so of this full-tank fill day. Whenever I take out the bike out for the first time during the day or after few hours ( ~6 hours) of parking in shade, the engine behaves as if it is running out of breath or about to switch off - especially at RPMs around 2.5 to 3k. But the bike would stall / jerk so strongly that engine switched off in the middle of traffic a few times. Headlights / instrument display were still working / trip meter didnt reset in this condition, so guess its not CDI or battery related? Bike seemed to return to normal working condition after riding for about 5 kilometers. The issue only happened about four times in total in past couple of weeks, but when it happened it was very annoying/scary.

My guesses were:
• Too rich Air/Fuel mix fouling the spark plug?
• Too lean air/fuel mix + dry/hot condition leaving the engine dry / out of fuel?
• Water/Contaminant in petrol - I had parked the bike in light drizzle for 3-4 hours once on main stand, so was wondering if it somehow entered? Doesn't seem likely as I have changed the tank cap (CDI/keyset etc too) about 2 months ago.
• Too much oil? Oil was changed recently (about 20 days ago to Shell AX7 SS) at a Shell fuel station - and they did pour full 1l in - but after the oil was drained by slanting the bike in two directions. I will post a picture of the left side of the engine area which does seem to be wet from some liquid, though I rode in dry condition.
• I had a discussion with my local mech in Bangalore, the night before the ride. And he did check the sparkplug and said it looks fine, but could not come up with a reasoning for stalling, moreover I was not able to recreate the problem there. Finally, I had thought it was due to engine not being warm enough, and should go away once it is run for a few kms.

The problem didn't occur at all the next day, even in the morning and engine started on the first flick of the switch. Rode for about 290kms without any issues and great performance (was cruising around 100-110kmph during the first half of the ride thanks to great road, and around 80 in the next).

Strangely the problem resurfaced at around the 290th km of the day, when engine was at around 5k rpm. Stopped the bike, opened tank cap, waited for a few seconds and then tried cranking. The bike didn't turn-on on the first try, and did a long cranking/whining sound. Just repeated the tank cap opening, kick start etc again, and after 3-4 tries it was back in business. The stalling/shuddering did happen a few times again during the next 10 kms, at moderately high RPMs of around 5 to 6k - but nothing after some time and reached home just fine. A bit confused, right now. Any directions would be of great help.

Your picture seems to suggest a loose Exhaust bend pipe fitting or the Exhaust Valve door Nut is leaky. The problem as reported by you of erratic engine response can be due to TWO possibilities. ONE is water in Petrol or Throttle slide getting stuck.......You had also reported engine refusing to start after a stop....was the kicker going down as if there is no compression ? if so ,you had encountered the "Honda Sticky Valve " syndrome...if not , suspect water in Petrol..

Water/dirt in tank more likely as the compression was normal when I tried the kickstarter. Plus the issue seems easily reproducible now - especially in the first 5-6 kilometers of the day at rpms around 3k, while accelerating.

I was roaming around my town yesterday (first time in my town on a bike, that too my own - so was a little excited/ecstatic ). Was not really convinced with the automobile repair shops from the appearance, majority being 4 wheeler shops. And when I was just about to turn back home, voila, a newly opened Hero ASC / showroom in the outskirts of my small town. Took couple of seconds to actually confirm/believe what I am seeing. Then down went the bike into the service bay.

Explained to the workshop manager about the problems, told him straight to clean the tank / fuel line/injector? He hesitated and told me to get a full service done instead as the problem was not confirmed yet. Told him again, maybe we can start with the tank, and then see what else needs to be done. And when I showed the oil/liquid leak problem, he opined its probably due to worn gasket, so bore/head will have to be opened to replace it. Questioned him whether it can be due to loose fitting exhaust pipe as per psr sir's reply, he didn't seem to think so, but said he would have to check.

Will be taking the bike there again today. Apart from cleaning the tank, can carb or any other parts be checked for dirt/rust too related to the issue? And if it comes down to opening the bore/head, can any other consumables be changed for safety like oil seals / O rings, any other gaskets? Probably O rings. Also I remember psr sir's post on liquid gasket to slightly improve fe/performance, so will pitch that suggestion too, to the staff, if they are upto it. These guys seem pretty straight forward / honest unlike majority of the ASCs staff in Bangalore, but also very conservative and maybe not as knowledgeable as the number of bikes which come in are fewer comparatively. So I feel they won't change things unless absolutely required or directed to do so.

Carb problems will not lead to oil leakage. You can of course open up the carb and clean it of deposits. You can also use Iftex System G to clean out the carb by adding it to petrol.
