  • engineering + bike = mess!

Hey fellas, I've bosch dual horns(they call Skoda horns); and the problem is both work only when if there are two relays but earlier it worked with single relay only. Next, now there is a "tick" sound only whenever I press the horn button(similar to the case when current is passed through relay only) and none of the horn is working...it worked almost 4 months and now all gone! I want to re-connect the circuit after removing all the existing horn circuit. Any suggestions are welcome; and further rain spoils the horn, how to prevent that?
Please anyone who has done it, explain from this........
"Original horn removed, now we have two wires, now please complete the circuit theoretically here..."

    • ^ Addition, can I still add a Phillips extreme 55/60 w headlamp and 2 x 5w halogen pilot lamps, with two relays already being used for the horns?

Explain, I think it should be 5w.
And, is 55/60 Philips Extreme good enough??? Please post cost and other details/experiences.
No relays used for the Bosch dual horns??
        Hi Sunny,

You are mistaking it as Pilot lamps. Aux lamps are additional lamps fitted on the crash guard for much better visibility during nights. Aux lamp model number is Hella Comet 550.

Philips extreme is good & has long throw. It costed me Rs.750/- a pair from official dealer.

Sorry for not mentioning. Yes I have used (single)relay for the horns also. Infact I have used relays for the aux lamp also.

You do not need any kind of relay to plonk the Pilot LEDs. Its just plug & play. Costs Rs.1500/- a pair.

where can i find this lamps in mumbai near by thane and at wht price??? pls help me and one more thing do i have to add realy as i have to put my headlight on battery???
        Hey buddy,
CBZ runs on AC/DC setup, while the LEDs need a constant power supply ie DC. So plonking it might not give you the desired results.

Same is the case for the 55/60w headlamp. The current setup is designed to power a 35/35w halogen. If you put in a 55/60w bulb, it will glow, but not to the full intensity as it should & hence you would have a much weaker headlamp than the current setup.

However you can get your coil rewinded, change the RR unit to Ape's RR & voila you have DC electricals.

I have no clue about any official dealers in Thane. I stay in South Mumbai & the dealer is walkable distance from my place.

Longer you remains like this, the tire will run out of stock. and new ZMA-R owners had put M45 without linkage rod bending.

Even if you have Roots Megasonic or Air Pressure horns on a 2.5 amp 12 v battery you need a single good quality relay . No need of dual relay .
Horns relay needs 2 supplies. 1 directly from battery & another from horn switch , if anyone is abscent then you will hear a tick sound only . & if both connections are present still you hear tick sound then either relay or horns are problematic.
As you said rain is affecting horns then it might be you horns needs cleaning the carbons from point & plate connector .
Try if you can post a picture of Horns , relay .

              Get Bosch Horn relay (130rs)

              @ Above_All

Bro i had to adjust the screw behind the horn to get it worked in old condition,So is it normal to adjust it after a full dismantle?

Bro i have relay no details of manufacturer on it ( 40 rupees ) & been in my passion from almost 5 years giving power to Vibrasonic horns . Another relay of same kind added before 4 years ( same as of previous ) powering Windtones horns. Passion battery is 12v 2.5 amp dry maintenance free made in india & No issue of battery if i used all 4 horns together . Then why should i go for bosch 130 rupees relay ?

Yes it is normal to adjust the horn point screw to get good sound , but don't get it to a final level producing high sound cause it will damage horn plate . & soon you need to replace it

                • @imjoshee, thanks for the detailed info. So overall you're using a 55/60 w headlamp, 2 aux lamps and bosch twin horns....all this setups on the stock battery? great then!! I'm also thinking for the aux lamps then.. Please do post some pics with headlamps and aux lamps ON during night. Thanks again.

@Aneesh, yes buddy the same horn..K I'm gonna clean it. Thanks.

@Above_all and others... Bosch relay? I got the relays from a local mechanic costing Rs 100 each, it has got 3 terminals...anyone explain the use of the 3 terminals alongwith the wires to be connected to 'em. I'm quite sure that relays are poor, so I'm gonna switch to Bosch as suggested here.

3 terminals ? Then its been a horn cutout not a relay . Thats why it is not powerful enough & you need 2. Relay comes with 4 or 5 terminals mostly. A picture will be nice to say details of it.

In old ZMA-R, the one on the left is fastened to the engine hangar nut and the one on the right is fastened to the crankcase nut.

In new ZMA-R the left one's fastened in the same place as the old one, but the right one is fastened to the reflector nut(extentions needed and they should also be bended).

And buy quality clips, else they'll short out like in my case.

                          OOPS FORGOT.

In ZMA's both windtones are fastened to the base of the nut holding the bar to which the fairings fastened to. In this case an extention would be needed for both horns.
