  • @psr sir
is my ZMA running in perfect AFR ?? i am running with these setting for past 400kms , my odo has done 870kms and AFR on 2.75 or 3 turns.
No start problems but i am only getting 33kmpl in pure city ride whereas i used to get 40kmpl before SVC told me to replace tappet so is the tappet culprit here???

my starter makes TIK sound sometimes after two tries engine starts what might be the issue?? is it due to low battery???

and i changed my bulb without removing the fairing without any issue now running on 55/60w philips H4.

Changed disc pads yesterday to the original Nissin(~Rs 1100) that comes with stock Karizma, afterall I don't want to compromise with quality and safety while riding because braking is the most important factor in handling and controlling your bike, specially the front disc brake... had a chat with psr Sir also, a local shop was offering me disc pads for Rs 180 only but then I just did not think anything and decided in a go that ORIGINAL ONLY!
Changed rear brake shoe, speedo cable and chain set as well. This service was the costliest @ Rs. 3000 but was the most satisfying since the purchase; as I was getting an amazing "feel" of a new Karizma wow so smooth riding and engine looked never under stress.....tried overtaking few trucks on the GT road in 2nd and 3rd OMG lots of torque that gives you enough confidence to judge whether to overtake or not in a 2 lanes both way road. Most surprising to me was that the speedo needle was moving which was new to me as I've been riding around 900 kms without any change in the speedo/trip/odo display
Thanks to everyone who helped me here.

Will you explain this? I mean, what to do in emergency braking?

Since our home made CruizeControl(Patented to ashwinprakas) is activated we cant de-accelerate, so since the choke acts as the engine kill switch, sudden yanking will kill the engine.

This I'm not getting the function of the choke. Please explain in detail. What do you mean by "killing the engine" and how is it related to choke?

And I'd like to invite the comments and views of all the experienced Karizma riders over there, what would you do in case of emergency braking (going over 100kph and suddenly a cow/dog jumps in front, and like cases) ?

Grab the front as hard as you can, that too at the tip for better leverage and when the speed reaches 60 without releasing the front gradually apply rear at an increasing rate and when the speeds inside 40 -
        a. If your upright then keep going and release the front a fraction of a second before you come to a halt.
        b. If you'r even slightly leaning to one side then release the front alone gradually and a fraction before you come to a halt, pump the front lightly till it comes to an end.

The throw of the light is simply superb! The Sathyamangalam forests were so well lit and confident speeds were around 80. Then on the way back again on the Mysore-Bangalore highway, I could cruise in upto speeds of 100-110 at night..
Thanks. thinking for the same oil for the next change.
And I met a guy with 55/60 w headlamps and 2 aux lamps on the crash gurad last night near Calcutta airport...I was asking him about the mods and he was referring me to "xbhp.com" I laughed and said I'm already there(although a noob) and he was @onwheels. He said he was using the 55/60 w headlamp without any relays, however there was a relay for the aux lamps. Again met him coincidentially today morning near CC2 (@onwheels you there? )

Selvin your plug ground strap shows that the engine is running hot..while the outer ring of plug is black suggesting slightly rich condition.....the crush washer on the plug neck shows it was never tightened fully, leading to gas leak and hotter ground electrode.....
So the remedy is for you to first tighten the plug to max, crushing the washer at the plug neck and forming proper seal....run it for 100 or more Kms..and find out what your FE is,and then post plug pic ..
Congrats on changing headlight bulb without removing fairing..it means you have Good skills..

But trust me bro, I was hunting so deeply for aux lamps. But once I fitted the relay, the Philips PREMIUM(not Extereme too!) I'm not even considering aux lamps now. This is giving such an amazing spread for such a cheap price without torturing the battery..

                  • Got my bike inspected at the SVC today. Not so bad service guys like i thought . They said the sound coming from engine is not from cam tensioner and its because of valve setting gone wrong ( i am not so convinced ) . They said it usually happens with higher CC bikes and its not categorized as a complaint . Had a healthy debate with supervisor .

Reason SVC guys say its valve setting: When the engine gets heated the valve expands and thus cause the sound and the more the bike gets heated up the sound can be heard clearly. If it was the cam tensioner the sound would begin right after the engine starts and as oil gets circulated the sound will get reduced.

Any ways they said to bring the bike on saturday and they will correct the valve setting using the feeler guage . JCT motors has a bad name for their service so i am a bit tensed that they might spoil the engine .

Was your plug changed ? If not then from day one you had been running like this...anyway tighten the spark plug fully and check out FE..
The tick sound and starter not working is result of loose contact in Relay, or the Starter FUSE is gone or developed loose contact. The Fuse is on the Relay itself under the connector, and the spare fuse is on the side of relay.

Valve or Tappet noise increases with heat, and nothing to worry as long as it is minimal..ie., you can hear it on a hot engine by kneeling down close to engine and you will hear a mild ticking sound..This is common with new engines of 4 stroke design. It is better to adjust it before the noise becomes audible even under cold condition.

Done then, going for the same with a Bosch relay. But I don't know which mechanic is going to connect the circuit perfectly.
Premium or Extreme or Diamond vision? Which one to go?

We can use battery of a China made mobile phone in a Nokia phone definitely, there is no loss as such, moreover it will be quite cheaper as well...but you can see the difference. Thats all I wanted to say, not to compromise with quality and originality.

Cool! You do not need to go to a mechanic to fix it. Just basic electric knowledge would do. I can guide you if you want. If you still want to get it done by a professional, you should head to some mech who deals with car electronics cos my experienced mech did not know what a relay was.

And the bulb it depends on your budget. I am very much satisfied with the Philips Premium which just costs around Rs80. Just get it from a reliable car spares shop. I would suggest you try the premium before going for the high end bulbs..

                              • Headlight focus

                                Hi guys,

The focus of my headlight is a little higher than it should be. The mechanic said I will have to change the whole headlight cluster since they have tried all ways to adjust it but could not. Does the focus of light depend upon the fibre cluster holding the bulb? If it does can anyone help me with the price of the same?

I will try and attach the pics of the light focus asap.
