Both Inlet and Exhaust Tappets are adjusted at the same time and for this reason both rocker arms should be resting ...for the same reason TDC when neither of the valves are actuated, is chosen as the ideal time ,to set valve clearance.
The valves rest on valve seats set in the top head. The valve by virtue of this seating continuously dissipates it's heat in to the head.this keeps the valve at a much cooler temperature . The head which is heating up also expands and pushes the valve seats downwards, which also pushes the valves downwards...In most vehicles the top head with valves is made of Aluminum, which has a different expansion co-efficient than the steel valve..hence when hot the valve is actually pushed downward and this increases the gap between the rocker arm and the valve stem.
Aluminum absorbs more heat than steel and expands more than steel.
A tight valve setting will lead to vacuum leak when cold and difficulty in cold start, poor FE ,and low end performance.Last edited by psr; 10-16-2011, 11:23 AM.When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

For what purpose are you seeking these details, and why can't you go through the many pages in the thread to get the details ?Originally posted by catchcheetah View Post@thala..

The details you had asked for varies from person to person and even in the same bike from time to time, and hence a clear indication is vain and inconsistent.
Like you said you are getting high mileage with Karizma then be prepared for engine problems due to lean running. When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Need to check my spark plug ASAP, because am getting neat figures of economy.

Running lean increases engine temperature and makes the rubber parts brittle, and burns the exhaust valve and seats.Originally posted by Vishakh View Post

If you ride without ripping say below 4.5 K RPM also you get good FE, so don't get confused between sane riding and lean running. Both produce good FE but after effects are different. If your plug shows ASH like grey color ground and center electrode then it is running lean and you need to alter the AFR setting to slightly rich, by turning the AFR screw ANTI CLOCKWISE half a turn.Last edited by psr; 10-16-2011, 07:36 PM.When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Hi
Hi psr sir,Originally posted by psr View PostFor what purpose are you seeking these details, and why can't you go through the many pages in the thread to get the details ?

Thanks for your very kind reply, you are 100% right sir. yeah the mileage varies from person to person, riding style, and other affecting conditions. I accept what all u said above.
i am not asking everyone wat mileage they usually get. since i know its highly insane to ask every rider about the mileage of the performance bikes.
i just asked u fellow ppl " whats ur best ever Recorded mileage" ? this is my only question.
this question arised for me because while searching in Wikipedia.."HH karizma is a tried and tested model.....The Karizma is reported to have an overall fuel economy of 40 km/l (90 mpg or 2.4 l/100 km), with a best of 50 km/l (120 mpg) and a worst of 28 km/l....."
Hero Honda Karizma R - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
So from that only i am very keen that anyone has attained this best mileage figure.
Thats it sir. also dont misunderstand that bike is under lean running. i got one of the best performance figure in (0-60 and 0-100)Kmph.also with both best and worst mileage figure.
Sorry sir if i said anything wrong above,
Once again Thank u very much for ur response sir
Regards,
jagadish
