    • Help Needed - My bikes giving me a lot of trouble. First of all, the kick start does not get the engine to life, i had issues with the battery. I got the battery changed (Got a new Amco7 Amps). the bike starts only with the Self Start, but gives me a jerk while am on the run. It also turns off if i leave the accelerator.

Now i have changed a couple of plugs, so no issues with the plugs as the current passes. Got the crab cleaned a couple of times, checked for the fuse and the electrodes that connect to the batter, got the fuel cap cleaned as I was suspecting that it might something might be a hindrance to the air flow. Tried a new battery and an alternate battery, comes up only on battery (as mentioned earlier). Also we checked with the value air kit inside the crab but no go. I don know, seems like am stuck in middle of no where.

Can you guys help me on that please

      • Raghu, is your bike not self-starting even with new battery?? We will meet this Saturday and check the issues.

BTW, where did you service your bike for all these?

And since when all this started?

the bike is starting with the new battery ( only self start), but it shuts down during the run and i have to keep accelerating always to avoid the shut down. this problem started when 1 1st mentioned about this in the XBHP hyd thread, assuming may be a problem with the spark plug. I got the bike serviced @ MPM in thirmalghiri. I had to tow the bike to the service center. can u please ref me to a good mechanic!!!

                      • Milage confusion

                        Hi everyone!

I'm totally confused and would be happy if you guys could provide some sound explanation to my experience.

I am a newbie when it comes to two wheelers. I recently purchased a Karizma and here are some details.
                        1. 1.6 k completed
                        2. First service done on schedule.
                        3. Oil change done at 500 kms and again at 1.2 k. Using HH 10w30.
                        4. I personally clean/lube my chain every 500 kms as I have removed the lower chain guard.
                        5. Everything is stock.
                        6. My ride daily is approx 66 kms. 30% city and 70% highway.
                        7. Never pushed speed beyond 60 kmph or exceeded 4000 rpm for the first 1000 kms except for occassional short burst while overtaking.
                        8. Still maintaining speed of 60-70 kmph with occassional short burst to 80 kmph while overtaking.
                        9. Using Hindustan petroleum power (Its power for sure) costing Rs. 47 per litre in Mumbai.

Now here comes the confusion. Filled up Rs. 500 worth of fuel when fuel gauge reserve starts blinking. This comes to 10.63 litres. Reset trip meter. Rode till fuel gauge starts blinking again today. Noted the trip meter that reads 535 kms. Calculation shows I am getting watch out .... approx 50 kmpl.

I'm no good in math. so is my calculation really screwed up or is it correct?
I've read comments about people quoting 40 + kmpl and as bad as 27 kmpl. Yes, I'm newbie on two wheelers. But I've lots of experience with four wheelers and know a thing or two about driving economically. Is it really possible to get this milage?

                        • Help guys

                          Hello Zmaniacs

A new entry to this forum, I am Pradeesh, reside in Kalina, Mumbai and just got a second hand ZMA , a 2007model, 10k kms done!. I was all over the sub-forum and must say lovely info you guys are cooking up here. Hey guys got to help me with some issues

                          1) I am experiencing a kind of weird jerky feeling at speeds of around 70-80, I mean a flutter or something , like an inadequate fuel mixture problem. It smoothens after 80 and gallops all the way to 120, no problem .Its pretty intense sometimes, the front forks drop it and out ( heavy jerking). What do you think might be the problem , I mean at the region 70-80kmph?. Carburetion or some sprocket thing!?

                          3) This could be a weird one, How does one ascertain the bike is in power or not?. Does it deliver the bang or not!

Guys please suggest a good mechanic here in and around the region, cos I am an immigrant here in Mumbai..just moved here so kinda clueless. Or is HH showrooms the last resort?

                          Thanks guys!

Riding conditions, riding style and skill besides motorcycle tuning and condition tuning a major contributors to getting a great mileage.

It may just be possible that you are indeed able to squeeze 50kmpl out of your ZMA.

However, the fuel gauge is float-based and is subject to gross inaccuracies because of movement.

Main/Reserve are based on the length of the inlets from the fuel tap that protrude into the fuel tank, Main being the taller of the two. When the fuel level falls and can no longer enter through the 'Main Inlet', a switch to Reserve is necessary, because fuel can then only flow through the shorter of the two inlets. Fuel will be sloshing around the tank based on the bike's movement, but only one of the two factors (fuel in this case) is moving around; the inlet level is fixed and remains constant.

With a fuel gauge, both the float and the fuel are subject to movement, which leads to erroneous readings.

Therefore, it is best to calculate your mileage from the time your bike goes into reserve until the next reserve.

Try it and let us know what you find!

                            • Metallic clicking sound from my Karizma..

                              Guys..facing a weird issue here...

I am getting constant clicking(metallic) sound from my bike, the noise comes in after a couple of minutes in traffic. My bike is under warranty...and the mech at the service center told me this kinda problem normally comes up with cam tensioner when the engine is cold and not when its hot but still he replaced the tensioner as it sounded like that..but the problem is still there and also i get little bit of knocking sound from the engine when riding for sometime in traffic and the bike engine doesn't seem to be free though i have clocked around 3500 kms on my ZMA..

                              please..help

Thought of this. The first time I put 500 worth of fuel, I did so immediately within 1/2 to 1 km from when it starts blinking. The next time it starts blinking was exactly at 535 kms later. I went on for another 15 kms till I reached petrol pump. By now the the tripmeter is reading 550 kms, and when I stopped to refuel, the fuel gauge has stopped blinking and showing two bars (because of movement as you rightly said). Though, I took the 535 kms to calculate my average.

Good suggestion. I'll try this next time, though it'll be a while since I put just 2 litres to reach my regular fuel pump. Come to think of it. I wasn't even trying to get good mileage . Just riding easy breaking in my new bike.
