Both are good machines and we should be thankful to Hero/Honda that they have not discontinued the ZMA - the legendary machine even after the launch of ZMR around four years back.
No doubt and thats why i wanna own a zma again along with my zmr.. both machines are amazing... i can never deny.. i was just trying to say zmr is as good as the zma..

Guys, I'll be out of town for a couple of weeks. The manual says for there are many procedures in case a bike is not used for a while. But for 2-3 weeks is there any need for precautions?

Good Choice.. but if I was given a choice.. I would never ever even go that side (antha pakkameee etti paarka maaten).. My friend goes through a lot of trouble with his bike which me and my friend @manojmsoni always do something to fix it for the time being.. there are just too many problems with that bike.. too much of Oil leakage no matter how good you take care of it.. the heat produced by that machine is like hell if you by mistake touch it, you will be burned..

one incident that happened with my friend's RE Classic 350 was.. my colleague was riding his bike and he had his bag hanging from the handlebar.. they were on their way home in the evening (roughly 14kms from office) and all of a sudden the bag caught fire due to the contact with the silencer.. I saw it with my own eyes.. we stopped and threw the bag on the floor and started stepping on it..

If you ever noticed.. the silencer (we cannot call it a silencer) turns into golden color when hot.. imagine how hot it would be that it turns metal into golden/amber color from steel color...

If given a choice for me within that budget.. I would go for the Duke 390 shedding out extra 20000/- its gonna be worth it and that is gonna be my next bike if Hero doesn't launch their new 250cc by the end of this year..

2-3 weeks is fine. you don't need to do much but yes if it is over 1 month then you have to take precautions.

Start your bike with kick only for the first when you come back.

Bro, 2~3weeks is nothing, when I get bored I keep my bike idle for longer periods than that. Jokes apart, make sure the fuel level is as low as possible and I mean real low, just enough to get you to the fuel bunk. After returning, with the ignition turned off, kick start the bike a few times, 5~10 would be enough. Then press starter and hold idle with throttle for a minute, and then resume riding, to the nearest fuel bunk and fill up. Done.

Choke- Dont use it too much, on a cold morning just a second of choking is needed to fire the engine and when it does, maintain idle with throttle(Dont give too much throttle like a 2T bike, just settle it at 2k for 10~30 secs or till bike is able to idle at 1.1k+ without throttle.) and close choke. One fellow ZMA Rider/Xbhpian faced an abrupt air leak and couldnt maintain idle, so he ran with the choke on, long story short, he had to get a new cylinder kit.

With such good instructions I should be fine

After trying to find the elusive M45 I found a dealer selling Geo Cruisers tubeless for the rear. I decided to go with this based on previous reviews on this thread.

For the front they're recommending a TT in case of pot holes at speed. Either that or a tubeless from TVS that comes stock with the Honda Shine. Confused which to choose.

One last thing the dealer only has Dunlop Rib for the front TT and says Mystery isn't a great tyre. Is that true?

If I was you I wouldn't be worryin' 'bout my stock tyres for atleast 25k-30k kilometres. Unless I wanted to go fancy pancy. I think the stock Zma tyres are pretty good.

Front stock tires are good. I wouldn't change them until they need to. And, I'd put them back again. For the rear, stay with stock tires for sometime, say 15k kms at least. Them being bad is exaggerated here. Post 15k, view your options.

When i first asked about the zma the only negatives highlighted here were the headlight, horn and tyres. This is the only reason I considered switching them. Seeing as Chennai's short monsoon will be here soon. Fishtailing fears.

Cylinder block-kit should be somewhere around 3100/- bucks approx. labour could be anywhere from 800-1200 bucks depending on where you get it done. Along with the block-kit make sure your valves, valve-seating, rocker and camshaft are in good condition. Do running in procedure for 2000km. You're then set for Isle Of Man TT!
