      Hi all,

Been quite a while since I last posted. I am in the market for new tyres for my ZMA-R. Currently my ZMA is on Michelin M45s (M45 3.00 - 18 TT on front, M45 4.00 - 18 TT on rear). But they are almost 5 years old now, and the front tyre has several cracks / unevenness, and the ride quality has become a bit bumpy too as far as I can tell.

I would like to switch to tubeless tyres, as I hear they are the stock tyres in the current Karizma's. Can anyone suggest the options please? M45s are almost absent in the market now, and I hear Pirelli Sport Demon is tough to find now / almost unavailable. After some searching around I found these are some of the current options for 18 size rim :

      From MRF -

      • For front Zapper FS - 80/100-18 TL
      • For front Zapper FQ - 80/100-18 TL
      • For rear - Zapper C (not sure what's the stock tyre spec is though)
      • For Rear - 100/90-18 MSX Masseter - this one looks new in the market; MRF has an entire website made for these tyres - ruleeverycurve.com. From some of the details on the site, it looks like a softcompound tyre, but couldn't find many reviews or opinions about the tyre. Any thoughts?

      From Michelin:

      • For front - Michelin City Pro - 2.75-18 TL: hadn't heard of these, until I saw it on amazon + Michelin's website. It also comes in 80/100-18 profile
      • Sirac street - dont think these are available here in India anymore. Plus have seen multiple bad reviews saying its wet grip is terrible
      • Pilot Sport/Street tyres - again not sure if these are available anywhere/anymore in Bangalore.
      • And few Ceat and Metro tyre options mentioned in the forum - which don't really have very good reputation gripwise.

Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance. I am basically looking for the best gripping tyres in dry/wet conditions (preferably tubeless), not too bothered about the cost or tyre wear/mileage/performance.

The above posts are derived from aggregation of opinions of several xBhp ZMA riders, based on personal experience/common sense. Please be advised that some things might differ from manufacturer's recommendations.

I will suggest to stay away from ceats. From my personal experience though they tend to skid very easily under panic braking situation s.

Massetter is better bet considering its soft compound. Michelin City Pro is a commuter bike tyre intended for low capacity bikes and sizes are available only for commuters and scooters.

Pirelli Sports Demon is available in 100/90-18. Available in Amazon and deep search in Bangalore.

BTW poor wet grip is only for Pilot Sporty and Pilot Street is an entirely different breed, but unfortunately not available in 18 inch.

If you want the best feel the way the manufacturer intended, you would stick to stock sizes.

I would suggest keeping the front tyre stock and putting Dunlop Geo Cruiser in 100/90-18 for rear. Grippy and great performance.

Now, you can go and put any humongous size, but then that kind of thing is meant for bigger engined bikes, I think. In Zma's case it robs the bike of its dynamics, efficiency and power.

The most you should ideally go up to is like 110/80-18 at the rear. Unless you're Always Game 😉 for lots of modifications.

Just my two cents. Rest is upto you. Have fun.

I am planning to do a 600+kms ride to hills next month and was skeptical if tyres will an issue. I will be replacing engine oil and oiling the chain.

What is the right time to change tyres on Karizma?

Mine is around 20.5k on Odo reading. A lot of tread is still there as you can also see from the photos above.

Any advice on engine oil grade? Should I make a change as I have used mineral 10w30 in all my ownership period of Karizma till date.

Also correct tyre specification if change is required. I would like to upsize them in permissible limit of the bike only.

Any other trip before the long ride will be appreciated.

And just forgot to add - Today is my Karizma's 8th Birthday. How time flies!

I feel so bad to see my riding going so low since 2015, hardly ran it 2000 Kms in 2 years.

Want to get an RC390 by next year but with my kind of low riding, I am not sure if I will do justice to a new bike and the capital required to acquire it!

Long time buddy! Good to see you back!
How old are tires? If more than 5 years, please change them. You can put ZMR's front tires (80/100-18) and can go upto 120 section rear, but it might be an overkill. A 110/90-18 or 110/80-18 would be apt if you want to upsize.
You can stick to the default 10w30 oil but you can safely go upto 20w40 in summers.
For the hills, you may want to just pull out the snorkel from the air filter box so that the bike breathes better. AFR can be kept between 3 and 3.5 turns.

And finally, a very happy 8th birthday to you and the lovely ZMA

                      • Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience

Recently I did a ride to munsiyari (max altitude 9500 ft). From 8000 ft onwards engine started misfiring and choking, at that point I removed snorkel (which pulled out easily because I set it loose intentionly) and there was little improvement but as soon as I hit 9000 ft again engine choked and was not going above 4.5k rpm in any gear. My afr was 3.25 turns and engine oil/sparker/air filter was new. Then on second day I went again to kalmuni pass 9500 feet after removing air bix lid completely along with snorkel then there was not any issue and engine was behaving just like on sea level.

But I think still for altitude above 13k feet zma need rejetting to smaller jet. Due to nature of engine which generates high torque at low rpm, zma engine sucks more fuel compared to other bikes after 1/4 throttle which is the main reason of high altitude choking problem.

Hero engineer from r&d told me to use either honda unicorn keihin 115 or achiever 150 (keihin 119) main jet and set afr to 5 turns for riding above 13k feet.

Try to drain water from breather hole under tank lid and see if water is coming out on ground . And yes its a classic problem and living with this.
